2 About SensorTrac SensorTrac uses the features of the SpeedDome Ultra camera dome and enables it to move along a track to the ideal surveillance position. In addition, the system: Can eliminate blind spots Reduces the number of cameras required to watch a large facility Maximizes floor coverage with one dome Provides continuity of recording when tracking incidents. The SensorTrac consists of a: SpeedDome Ultra programmable camera dome VM16, VM32, or VM96 View Manager video controller RS485 (SensorNet)-to-RS422 code converter* Video transport unit (VTU) Power supply interface (PSI) Straight 2.4m (94.44") track sections, up to a maximum of 150 meters (488') Corner track sections (if used) Translucent cowling Ceiling suspension components. * Not required if using a VM96 video controller. Camera Dome Using a Sensormatic View Manager video controller (VM16, VM32, or VM96), operators can move the camera dome along the track in addition to using its programmable features, such as Quick Views, Patterns and Sequences. The dome can be operated manually or programmed to move to preset positions. Note: SpeedDome Ultra programmable dome and View Manager video controller are purchased separately. Refer to the appropriate data sheets for model numbers. For VM16 and VM32 controllers, an RS485-to-RS422 code converter also must be purchased. Video Transport Unit (VTU) The VTU is a carriage that moves the camera dome along the track. The VTU is comprised of three hinged sections: the forward section contains interface circuitry, the middle section contains a mounting base for the camera dome, and the rear section contains a drive motor. Power Supply Interface (PSI) Mounted at the start end of the track, the PSI sends control signals and 35Vdc power along the track to the VTU. It also has connections for RS422 control cabling and protocol translation software. Track Straight track sections mate together to form a surveillance route. Along the center of the track, electrically insulated bars supply power and data from the PSI to the VTU and return video to the video controller. A track may also use one or more 90 corner sections. Aluminum cowling covers each corner section and briefly blocks surveillance as the camera travels through it. Translucent Cowling The cowling covers the entire track to conceal the dome s location and to protect it from dirt and moisture. The cowling is available in a lightmirrored or dark-mirrored finish. Note: The light-mirrored finish will reduce light to the camera dome 2 f-stops. The dark-mirrored finish will reduce light to the camera dome 1.5 to 1.8 f-stops. Using a light meter, check the light level along the track to determine which cowling to use. Suspension Assembly This assembly suspends the track below the ceiling to bypass ceiling irregularities and obstructions. Basic components are supplied; others are purchased separately. Note: 350mm (13.75") UNISTRUT channels and threaded rods are typically used to suspend the track from a single red iron truss. If the suspension assembly is to attach between two trusses, then longer UNISTRUT channels are required (see alternative ceiling attachment in figure). Note: If the track is to be suspended more than.9m (3') below a ceiling, anti-sway cables must be used to stabilize the track. 2 PLANNING GUIDE , REV. B

4 Planning the Installation Planning requires analyzing the ceiling structure and the proposed track route, observing safety guidelines, and understanding the installation process. What to Consider Ceiling types and distance between ceiling structures. There are many types of ceilings from preformed concrete slabs to red iron structures. Servicing requirements. Allow at least 1m (39.4") of space between vertical surfaces such as walls and the end of the track to install the end caps, to enable the track to expand, and to allow the VTU to be removed and serviced. Also allow 55.9cm (22") between the track and the ceiling for installation of the PSI cabinet. Nearby lights. Keep lights away from the track cowling. Lights can silhouette the camera dome, thus reducing the covert benefits of the SensorTrac system. AC Power. One dedicated 120Vac power outlet near the PSI box is required. IMPORTANT! Do not secure the track directly to a ceiling. Many ceilings have surface variations that can stress the track as the ceiling expands and contracts (see Track Expansion/Contraction, next), resulting in damage to the track supports. Instead, use track suspension assemblies such as UNISTRUT channels and threaded rods to suspend the track from the ceiling. This way, the track can not only avoid surface variations but step over obstacles such as water pipes and electrical conduit. Anti-sway cables: If the track is to be suspended more than.9m (3') below a ceiling, anti-sway cables must be used to stabilize the track. Obstructions along the proposed track route. The track route must allow for UNISTRUT channels that are 350mm (13.75 ) wide. You may have to move obstructions such as suspended lights away from the track route. Corners. When determining the route for a track that uses one or more 90 corner sections, use two intersecting string lines to know where the straight sections that connect to the corner section begin. Each straight section begins 400mm (15.75") from where the two string lines intersect. Two people required. This installation requires a minimum of two people for efficiency and safety. Video Cable. The video signal from the PSI box connects to the monitor or video switchers through a type RG ohm coaxial cable, which is suitable for lengths up to 300m (1000'). Controlling the system using a VM16 or VM32 controller. Sensormatic RS422 protocol is used to control the SensorTrac system. VM16 or VM32 controllers require a Sensormatic code converter to convert RS485 (SensorNet) to RS422. The VM96 controller does not need the code converter. Specialized equipment. Track installation requires the use of the following specialized equipment: scissor lift with extended work platform spirit level or laser alignment equipment Rotozip tool with Zip Mate attachment and Zip Brite polishing disc (120 grit or higher). Track Expansion/Contraction Track length changes at a rate of 0.024mm/meter per C which causes each section of track to vary 0.48mm (24mm for 50m of straight track). See Table 1 below. Table 1. 5 Safety Guidelines SensorTrac shall conform with all applicable Standards or Codes of Practice pertaining to the Country or State in which it is to be installed. In particular: Workplace health and safety issues shall be addressed at all times. Always wear a safety harness and protective eyewear. Site cleanliness shall be maintained at all times. Equipment waiting installation must be stored under the appropriate security and environmental conditions. Certified electricians (in accordance with local regulations) must be used to install mains power cabling and termination. Licensed machinery operators must be used during the installation of the system. A dedicated power circuit shall be allocated to the system. Exposed and external cables shall be placed in conduit or cable wrap. Plugs including coaxial connectors (BNCs) shall be fitted with appropriate strain relief fittings. Installation Overview This overview goes over the parts supplied, parts that need to be purchased (if any), tools and equipment required, and the order of installation. 6 Order of Installation (Summary) WARNING! This section is intended to provide an overview of what it is like to install SensorTrac. It is not intended to replace the detailed instructions in Installation Guide SensorTrac is easiest to install when a scissor lift with extended work surface is used. Installation is typically performed as follows: 1. A string line is placed parallel 152mm (6") from what will be the center of the track. The string line is used as a guide to align the suspension assembly and track. Corner sections: If a corner section is used, two string lines intersect at the corner section. Each straight section begins 400mm (15.75") from where the two string lines intersect. 2. Two suspension assemblies are built for every track section. The first assembly is placed.6m (2') from the start of track and with subsequent assemblies approximately every m (4 6') thereafter. UNISTRUT channels and mounting cleats are supplied; threaded rods and related hardware are purchased separately. 3. The PSI cabinet is mounted to the first suspension assembly above the start end of the track. 4. The Start of Track track section (the one with the launch box) is positioned against the first two suspension assemblies and the mounting cleats are tightened against the track. 5. Four pins are tapped into the B end of the track section and a DVM is used to check for shorts between power and video/data rails, and between rails and the track (ground). 6. The next track section is tapped into the first and secured to next two suspension assemblies above the track. Tip: Installation is easiest when one worker holds the track section and guides the pin insertion while the other taps the track into place. Again, four pins are tapped into the B end of this track section and a DVM is used to check for shorts between the rails and between the rails and the track. Track section joiners are installed. This step is repeated until the entire track is installed. A RotoZip tool is used to remove minor misalignment between adjacent tracks where the VTU brushes contact the track surface. 7. Power is connected to the PSI and the PSI address is set the same as the one allocated by the video controller. Video and control cables are connected between the PSI and the launch box (through conduit) and a video cable is connected between the PSI and the video controller. 8. For VM16 and VM32 controllers, the controller connects to the RS485 (SensorNet)-to-RS422 code converter and the controller connects to the PSI. The VM96 controller connects directly to the PSI (using RS422). 9. Bar code labels are affixed to the track. These labels tell the VTU where it is along the track. 10. The VTU is slid onto the track beyond the first track section with its drive motor facing the PSI. The VTU address is set the same as the one allocated by the video controller. 11. The address of the camera dome is set to 001 and the camera is attached to the VTU. 12. Power is applied to the track and a laptop computer with VTU configuration software is connected to the RS422 port on the code converter or video controller. With configuration software up and running, the system is configured and tested (see Setup and Service Guide ). 13. The cowling and section brackets are installed along the entire track route.
