3 1. Introduction Thank you for purchasing our Plain-Talk series Bluetooth wireless technology mobile telephone interface. This interface is designed to provide integration of your MINI s built in mobile phone capabilities and your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. Below is a list of components and tools that you will need. Some you should have received with your kit or you may have purchased separately. This document is designed to be a supplemental guide to installation and is not a substitute for proficient knowledge and ability to successfully complete the installation. Please note that your vehicle may vary from what is depicted in this document and European Integrated Systems, Ltd (EIS) cannot be held responsible for damage as a result of improper installation. If you are not comfortable with what you read we encourage you to seek professional installation assistance. You will need the following components to complete the installation: EIS Plain-Talk kit: Includes radio interface harness, steering wheel control interface module, Parrot interface harness. Parrot module and accessories. Parrot installation and operations guide Wire ties or tie-wraps (optional) Torx bits - most cars require a T20 and T40 size, some require T27. This kit provides integration of the Parrot CK3000 Evolution hands free car-kit with the car s stereo for radio mute and use of the built in car stereo speaker(s). The radio display indicates "PHONE" when a call is in progress. We do not offer support for display of the calling number on the radio with this product. This kit is designed to make installation easy! Without the need to cut or splice ANY wires on your MINI. You will still need to follow the instructions of your Parrot car-kit for mounting the microphone this information is not discussed in this document EIS, Ltd. all rights reserved 3

4 2: Installation procedure Radio Removal 1. The first thing that needs to be done to remove the radio is to remove the pillars that run down the side of the radio and climate control units. This is accomplished by removing 2 torx bolts on each side. Note that on the drivers side you will have to drop the panel that is just above your knees - this pulls down with no tools and is hinged at the back. 2. Once you have removed the four torx bolts, you will need to pry up gently on the fascia around the speedometer. You will only need to pry up enough to pull the side pillars towards you. In most cases you can then press the side pillars outward enough to access the four torx bolts that secure the radio EIS, Ltd. all rights reserved 4

5 Attach the harness to the radio: 1. The first thing that needs to be done is to remove the harness from the back of the radio. There is a lever on the bottom edge of the connector that you will release by pulling it back away from the radio. 2. Once you have it removed check to see if there are any smaller plugs inside the larger harness. In this case you will see that there is a twisted white wire connected to a small plug. You may not have this on your vehicle or you may have 2 as this is also where the auxiliary input connector goes. You will need to remove these and insert them in the harness supplied with your kit that will be reinserted into the radio. Then insert the car harness into the other end of the Plaintalk harness See below EIS, Ltd. all rights reserved 5

6 Attach the harness to the steering wheel control box: 1. Here you can see that the Plain-Talk harness is connected to the radio, the car harness and also the silver Steering Wheel Control interface box. 2. You will now simply route the box back behind the dash and pull the cabling back through. You may need to adjust the harnesses from the back as you re-install the radio to prevent the harnesses from blocking the radio as you slide it back into position. 3. Now that you have the steering wheel control box pulled through you can attach the Parrot module and associated parts. Connections should be self evident as the connectors only go one way. Please note that you will need to attach the Parrot control pad although during normal operation you will not need to access it. We suggest that you keep it under the dash or run it into the center console. You only need to access this control pad to pair a phone, change voice control language, menu functions, etc. In most cases you will never need to use it EIS, Ltd. all rights reserved 6

7 Microphone installation and testing: You are welcome to install your microphone anywhere that is convenient for you. Some folks run the wire up the a pillar and that will work great. Others find that a location on the steering column is easier. We suggest that you refer to the Parrot documentation and recommendations. You can see one option in this picture. Now that everything is connected together you can attach the various modules behind the dash at your discretion. We recommend you try everything out before buttoning up the cover panels in the event a connector is not tight or that you need to access the Parrot console for pairing your phone EIS, Ltd. all rights reserved 7

8 3: Pairing and Operation Note: Please refer to your Parrot documentation for overall operation, pairing, and configuration instructions. Here are some additional points specific to the Plain-Talk implementation: 1. Your Parrot kit should turn on and be in pairing mode out of the box. If not, you will need to utilize the parrot control panel to initiate pairing. 2. Your radio will mute when a call comes in or your activate a voice command in the Parrot system (from the talking head steering wheel button), CDs or tapes will pause and your music will resume when your call is ended. 3. All audio will come through your factory speaker system. 4. Your harness also provides switched power to your Parrot kit so that it will automatically turn on and off when you start and stop your vehicle. Your phone should automatically connect and disconnect as well. 5. To answer an incoming call, simply press the talking head (speech) button on your steering wheel. 6. To end a call, press the R/T button on your steering wheel. 7. To take the call private on your handset in the middle of a call, press the talking head button. You can also press it again to resume the call on the car speakers. 8. To redial the last number called, press the talking head button for 2 seconds. 9. To activate voice dialing in the Parrot, press the talking head button briefly (when not in a call). 10. Use the up and down volume controls on your steering wheel to adjust the volume of the call (during a call only). This will adjust the volume on the phone itself EIS, Ltd. all rights reserved 8

We warrant this product against defects in material and workmanship as follows: Your module is backed by our 1 year performance warranty this includes repair or replacement for failures resulting from defects in manufacture. If, upon return of product, it is determined to be defective, European Integrated Systems, Ltd. ( EIS ) will repair or replace the Product at no charge during the warranty period. Your retailer may provide an additional/extended warranty or contract. Please contact your retailer for assistance. This warranty does not cover cosmetic damage or damage due to improper installation, to acts of God, accident, misuse, abuse, negligence, commercial use, or modification of, or to any part of the Product. Return of your product for a refund is subject to the policies of your retailer. EIS cannot be held responsible for failures resulting from installation errors or modifications. To the extent permitted by law, all warranties are waived, other than the warranty stated above.
