3 Progrmming Preprtion Progrmming Psscode PROGRAMMING PREPARATION INSTALLING BATTERIES The digitl keypd is powered by 4 AA btteries which must be instlled before you cn begin progrmming your personl code. For your convenience, we hve provided you with 4 AA btteries. For best results nd depending on use, we recommend replcing the btteries t lest once yer. 1 Locte bttery comprtment to the right of the digitl keypd. 2 To open the comprtment, press firmly on the bttery cover nd slide it to the right for removl. 3 Instll 4 new AA btteries in the bttery comprtment. Mke sure they re instlled in the correct direction s mrked on the inside of the bttery comprtment. 4 Once the btteries re instlled properly, replce the cover by sliding it bck on from the left. BATTERY COMPARTMENT PROGRAMMING A PASSCODE LCD DISPLAY MENU Your new Digitl Firesfe fetures n LCD disply to ssist in progrmming nd operting your sfe. A menu of the codes is s follows: LCD Redy to enter your psscode DISPLAY Redy to progrm psscode Correct psscode entered Incorrect psscode entered Btteries (AA) must be replced PROGRAMMING A PASSCODE Use the digitl keypd to progrm your own 3 to 8 digit psscode. You my choose or chnge your personl psscode t ny time by following these steps: Open the sfe s described in "Open Sfe with Psscode & Key" section on the following pge. Press * nd enter the fctory pre-set Psscode: # to open the sfe for the first time or your user progrmmed Psscode if the pre-set Psscode hs lredy been chnged. 1 Locte the memory button mrked on the inside of the door. MEMORY BUTTON BATTERY REMOVAL 2 Using pen or other blunt tip, quickly push nd relese the memory button. If the btteries re removed or fil, the keypd memory will NOT be ersed. OVERRIDE ENTRY TO SAFE In the event tht you forget your psscode, you cn obtin Mster Override Code to gin entry into your sfe. Contct our Customer Affirs Deprtment t to get instructions on how to obtin this code. It tkes some time to complete your request, therefore it is recommended tht this be done immeditely so in the event tht you forget your psscode, you will be prepred to immeditely gin ccess to your sfe using your Mster Override Code. (See pge 5 for instructions on how to open your sfe using the Mster Override Code). 3 After you her "beep", the LCD disply will red "Code" nd you my begin entering your personl code (from 3-8 digits) followed by the # button. 4 Next you will her longer "beep" nd the LCD disply will flsh the code you entered nd dispper, indicting tht your personl code hs been successfully progrmmed nd cn now be used to open your sfe. SECURITY LOCKOUT PERIODS For dded security, the sfe will utomticlly "Lockout" entry for 5 minutes fter three ttempts to open with n invlid psscode. After three more invlid ttempts within this time period, one-hour "Lockout" period will begin. During these "Lockout" periods, entry MUST BE MADE using the emergency override key. 3 4

4 Opening & Closing Digitl Sfe Additionl Fetures: Removble Shelves OPENING SAFE WITH PASSCODE & KEY REMOVABLE SHELVES OPENING THE SAFE Once your psscode hs been entered into the memory, the sfe cn be opened by following these simple steps: ADJUSTABLE & REMOVABLE SHELVES These models re designed with 5 position djustble shelves to llow greter flexibility nd further ccommodte your prticulr security storge needs. 1 Insert one of the Compnion Entry Keys (round top) into the lock cylinder but DO NOT TURN KEY. 2 Press the * button on the keypd, followed by the progrmmed code (use when opening the sfe for the first time) nd the # button. 3 The LCD disply will red "Good" nd you will her tone indicting tht the sfe door is unlocked. 4 To open, turn the Compnion Entry Key (round top) to the RIGHT nd turn the hndle. NOTE: You must open the sfe door within 3 seconds or the electronic lock utomticlly engges. To progrm personl psscode, follow steps 1-4 on pge 3. TURN ENTRY KEY TO RIGHT ONLY Turning it to the left my cuse key to become stuck in the cylinder nd my cuse dmge to the lock. CLOSING THE SAFE 1 Mke sure the key is in the open position. 2 Close the door. 3 The hndle will utomticlly return to the closed position. 4 Turn the key ll the wy to the left. 5 Remove the key from the lock. MASTER OVERRIDE CODE USE The Mster Override Code cn be obtined from our Consumer Affirs Deprtment. It cn be used to gin entry to your sfe in the event tht you forget your Psscode. TO INSTALL: Your shelf nd shelf support clips hve been shipped inside your sfe nd wrpped for protection from dmge during shipping. 1 Remove shelf nd (4) shelf support clips from protective wrpping. 2 Determine the desired position of your shelf nd note the corresponding support guide slots (2 on ech side of interior wlls) tht re best suited to support the shelf in tht position. 3 Instll the (4) shelf support clips in the sme position on ll four support guides. 4 Instll shelf into position by plcing it inside the sfe (tilting if necessry) t point bove the desired position. 5 Once inside, lower it into position until resting on shelf support clips. ADJUSTABLE & REMOVABLE SHELVES Simply remove the shelf nd reposition the (4) shelf support clips by sliding them up nd out of the support slots nd reinstlling them into the new positions. Then reinstll shelf s described bove. SUPPORT GUIDES 1 Press the * button on the keypd nd the LCD displys "Open". 2 Within 10 seconds, enter the 8-digit Mster Override Code followed by #. 3 After one minute time dely, LCD displys "Good" long with melody. 4 Within 4 seconds, turn the key to the right to open the sfe. REMOVING SHELF If you remove the shelf, it is strongly recommended tht you DO NOT DISCARD it. You my ly the shelf flt in the bottom of the sfe to ssure full flexibility in the future. NOTE: You must open the sfe door within 3 seconds or the electronic lock utomticlly engges. 5 6

5 Consumer Affirs / Sfe Identifiction Record CONSUMER AFFAIRS YOUR SAFE S UNIQUE IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS When contcting Consumer Affirs, you should be prepred to supply some importnt informtion tht specificlly identifies your sfe. This informtion is extremely importnt to ssuring prompt nd ccurte customer ssistnce. It is strongly recommended tht you identify nd record the following informtion in the Sfe Identifiction Record form locted on the inside bck cover of this mnul. MODEL NUMBER SERIAL NUMBER KEY NUMBER LOCATING MODEL & SERIAL NUMBERS Most First Alert sfes include smll metllic silver or gry tg ffixed to one of the surfces. This tg is usully locted on the front or right side of the sfe. This tg contins the Seril Number, nd on selected models similr tg is ttched contining the Model Number. If Model Number tg is not ttched to the sfe, then it cn be locted on the front or side pnel of the box tht the sfe ws pckged in. Write this number down for future reference. LOCATING KEY NUMBER The Key Number is locted on the key. If you do not hve the key, the number is lso imprinted on the Key lock. SAFE IDENTIFICATION RECORD Model Number Seril Number Key Number Digitl Psscode Record DO NOT REMOVE TAGS In cse your sfe becomes inoperble or you lose your keys, these identifiction numbers will be needed to correct the problem. It is recommended tht the number tgs remin in plce on the sfe. If removl is necessry, then they should be ttched to the inside bck cover of the Opertion nd Instlltion Guide. Do not put mnul or tgs inside the sfe. Store in sfe nd secure plce for future reference. Your psscode must be t lest 3 digits nd no more thn 8 digits followed by the # sign. #! APPROPRIATE USE OF YOUR SAFE Use, Cre & Mintennce First Alert fire sfes protect pper records nd mny other vlubles. Verified fire protection for: Memory sticks, CD s & DVD s, USB Drives. This product is NOT INTENDED to protect udio or video cssettes, floppy discs, dt crtridges, film nd photos or photo negtives. Your sfe must be closed nd ltched in order to properly protect the contents from fire. MOISTURE WARNING We recommend tht you plce delicte items such s pictures or intricte jewelry into n ir-tight continer before storing them in your sfe. Avoid plcing your sfe in res of high humidity. For optimum performnce, the sfe should be opened nd ired out for t lest 20 minutes every two weeks. SAFE CARE & MAINTENANCE When properly mintined, your sfe will continue to operte nd ccurtely red the uthorized Psscode for mny yers. In order to ensure optimum performnce of your sfe, plese follow these simple precutions: BATTERY MAINTENANCE We recommend tht you plce delicte items such s pictures or intricte jewelry into n ir-tight continer before storing them in your sfe. Avoid plcing your sfe in res of high humidity. It is recommended to replce ll btteries t lest once yer or sooner depending on mount of use. 3 Alwys clen the bttery contcts in the bttery comprtment nd on the btteries before instlling new btteries. 4 Alwys mke sure btteries mtch polrity ( + / ) signs in the bttery comprtment. 5 If sfe will not be used for n exhusted period of time, removing btteries is recommended. 6 Alwys promptly remove nd properly discrd ll used btteries. CLEAN HANDS Never ttempt to operte the digitl keypd if your hnds hve excessive dirt, debris or liquids on them. CLEAN SAFE To clen the surfce of your sfe, it is recommended tht you use mild clener (e.g. window clener) to void scrtching or discoloring the surfce. Alwys wipe dry nd NEVER use brsive clensers on the sfe or digitl keypd. For future reference, store this Opertion nd Instlltion Guide in secure re wy from the sfe. DO NOT DISCARD! 7 8

BRK, t its sole option, will repir or replce this product or ny component of the product found to be defective during the wrrnty period.
