3 Resistance against Corrosion Water Proofed Instrument Remote Control System Automated Operation Self-checking Circuits INSTRUCTION POWER CSMS assures easy and accurate measurement of various parameters from roll strand which directly affects the quality of casting slab. The measured parameters such as roll gap, roll alignment, roll rotating condition and water spray nozzles are collected and stored in board computer and transferred by radio module or portable computer. The analyzed data can be transferred to the user s host PC through network. Each system is custom designed to fit the casting plant requirement. POWER CSMS is designed to maintain durability and accurate function under severe environment and fully verified from POSCO. This is developed by POWER MnC and POSCO R&D Center and verified in the field of POSCO, is most advanced against the existing ones. 5 SENSOR INTRODUCTION SENSORS LVDT Roll Gap Roll Bend INCLINOMETER Roll Alignment IMPLUSE SENSOR Roll Rotation LOAD CELL (Plat type) Water Spray Nozzle PRINCIPLE OF MEASUREMENT ROLL GAP & BENDING SENSOR Roll Gap means gap between top roll and bottom roll. Sensor is LVDT made durably and against moisture. ROLL ALIGNMENT SENSOR Inclinometer checks inclination of two consecutive rolls. As detecting roll s misalignment, it gives us data to be calculated. SPRAY NOZZLE SENSOR It is check the functionality of the spray. nozzles in the continuous casting machine (spray projection). Principle of test is for detecting spray nozzle clogging, using strain gage attached diaphragm transformed by pressure. LOAD CELL (Plat type) This sensor checks roll rotation. Shaft of disk is connected to impulse sensor (360 pulse/rev.). It rolls are not rotate because of friction between disk and roll, disk will rotate. So it occurs pulse. 4

6 FEATURES OF SYSTEM OPERATING MEASURING HEAD Measuring Head is fabricated of stainless to be strengthened in thoseareas liableto be easily deformed when passing through the strand. Each enclosure will be waterproofed to ensure reliable operation during service. For smooth top feeding, the anvils will be fully withdrawn by hydraulic system when passing themold, after then the springs are released to adjust roll gaps. WATERPROOFING - All of sensors are to be individually enclosed against water & moisture. - Electric parts and connectors are also fully enclosed. SPRAY NOZZLE SENSOR The measuring head has anvils exerting a force against the rolls simulating the pressure existing in casting conditions. These anvils also ensure that measuring head is kept firmly on the outer radius rolls. Before inserting the measuring head to the mold, anvils must be Fully withdrawn by hydraulic system using remote controller. Like (a), when it didn t pass the mold, it maintains withdraw state. As it pass through the mold, like picture (b), anvils will be released automatically. FEATURES OF SYSTEM OPERATING 5
