1 These are the pictorial instructions for changing out a suspect valve with the replacement valve assembly that you have received from Atwood. For LP please begin at slide #2 For Natural Gas please begin with slide #23 Tools needed to complete either rework operation: ¾ open ended wrench ¼ nut driver 7/16 open ended wrench (Natural Gas Only) 1

2 89 Valve Assembly Removal and Replacement (LP) Labor needed to complete rework Non - LD -.80 hrs. LD 1.2 hrs. Freight - Prepaid 2

3 Each valve assembly will come fully assembled configured to 40,000 BTU. Each assembly will come packaged with a self addressed and pre paid returnable box with instructions. If you are servicing a 35,000 BTU unit there is no performance issue in converting the unit to 40,000 BTU. If converting a 35,000 BTU you must the change the data sticker to reflect the change in BTU s 3

4 Box includes replacement valve assembly, return label, warranty service report, and instructions for accessing replacement instructions on the website. 4

5 The following slides will walk you through the steps required to remove and replace the valve assembly Please verify your replacement valve has a green dot as seen in the photo on the right 5

6 Using an 3/4 open end wrench. Disconnect the gas line and push gently out of the way. Gas Line Removal 6

7 Fold door down or take off door cover. (Not Shown) The exhaust vent will need to be removed (unscrew wing nut) The slide plate in the following slides has only been removed for easier descriptions. In the field this part will not be removed. Remove 7

8 Remove one screw using a ¼ nut driver and remove the drip pan. Place all removed components to the side. You are now ready to remove the valve assembly Remove 8

9 3 Screws There are three screws that need to be removed. Please keep these as they will be used to attach the replacement assembly. 9

10 Please disconnect both the valve wires and the high tension spark wire. Please use caution as the steel in this area may be sharp. 3 wires 10

11 When you have disconnected these wires take care to push them out of the way for the removal of the valve assembly. 11

12 Remove the old valve assembly. 12

13 Inspect the area for debris, clean if needed. 13

14 Install new valve assembly, please take care to not pinch the valve wires or high tension spark wire. 14

15 Wire removal While the assembly is loose please attach the valve wires. You will not be able to be attach these wires once the valve is reinstalled. 15

16 1 wire Reattach the high tension spark wire at this time. You will not be able to attach once the valve is reinstalled. 16

17 Take care as the steel in this area is sharp 17

18 Using the three screws attach the new valve assembly 3 screws 18

19 1 screw Install the drip shield 19

20 Install exhaust vent Tighten Wing nut 20

21 Secure gas line, perform a drop pressure test. 21

22 Place used valve in box along with completed warranty service report. Attach label and return to Atwood for processing. If the natural gas orifice was not used, please ensure it is also included in the return box. Note: In order to ensure timely payment please ensure all requested items are completed and included in the return box. 22

23 89 Valve Assembly Removal and Replacement for Natural Gas Applications This is a supplement to Atwood s 89 Valve Assembly Removal and Replacement Slide Show and covers converting the unit from LP to natural gas. 23

Each assembly will come packaged with a self addressed and pre paid returnable box with instructions If you are servicing a 35,000 BTU unit there is no performance issue in converting the unit to 40,000 BTU. 25 Please familiarize yourself with the repair process contained in Atwood s 89 Assembly Removal and Replacement Slide Show. The following slides will only address changing the replacement AC Valve from LP (Liquid Propane) to NAT (Natural Gas). If your customers unit is running on propane the following steps DO NOT need to be followed. 25

26 89 Valve Assembly Removal and Replacement (NG) The following slides will walk you through the steps required to remove and replace the valve assembly Please verify your valve has a green dot as seen in the photo on the right 26

27 Using the Assembly provided. Remove the two burner screws. Remove two screws 27

28 Remove one screw. The Valve Body will now be able to be removed. Remove 28

29 Once the valve Body is loose, set the other parts to the side as these will need to be used during the reinstallation. Valve Body 29

30 Pressure tower removal. Remove red cap, 30

31 Using 7/16 wrench remove carefully 31

32 LP will be readable when you remove the tower as seen here. LP 32

33 Turn tower over so the letters NAT are readable as shown here. NAT 33

34 Tighten, be careful not to strip the threads. Tighten Replace red cap 34

35 Remove LP Orifice using 7/16 wrench Replace with natural gas orifice supplied with the kit 35

36 Once the LP Orifice has been removed replace the orifice with the NAT Gas orifice as shown The Orifice needs to be tight, do not strip the treads. 36

37 Re Assemble 37

38 2 screws Install Burner 38

39 Install assembly as shown in slides

40 Secure Gas Line, complete drop pressure test and re install slide plate. Affix NAT Gas ID sticker found in Orifice bag. Attach the sticker to the drip pan, this will let future technicians know they are working on a unit that is running on Natural gas. If Gas ID sticker is not present affix NAT Gas ID Sticker to drip pan as shown 40

41 Place used valve in box along with completed warranty service report. Attach label and return to Atwood for processing. Note: In order to ensure timely payment please ensure all requested items are completed and included in the return box. 41
