1 BASIC PUMPING OPERATIONS Page Red and Green Systems The Red and Green Systems are supplied from fire pumps that are hydraulically clutched to the Main Propulsion Engines. The pumping operation is managed by the Engineer at the appropriate Engineer s Console. Coordination between the Engineer and the Pilot is essential for safe and efficient operations. In normal pumping operations, engine RPM set points are adjusted to the operational needs of the fire pumps. The Pilot has command of the Main Engine settings and may alter the Main Engine RPM settings in order to support the safe operation of the Fireboat. Communications between the Engineer and the Pilot must be clear and understood at all times when operating these systems. Additional personnel may be used to observe and/or control monitors at the discretion of the Engineer and Pilot. The Red and Green Systems are separate, identical systems and each contains the following (Fig ): Fire Pump (6500 GPM) (Fig ) Pilothouse Monitor (5500 GPM) (Fig ) Boat Deck Monitor (1000 GPM) (Fig ) Manifold 3 x 4 outlets (Fig ) Foam Pump (20 Hp, 60 GPM) (Fig ) Foam Pump (60 Hp, 165 GPM) (Fig ) Foam Proportioner (Fig ) Foam Tank (3000 gallons AR-Type Foam) (Fig )

6 RED and GREEN SYSTEMS PUMPING OPERATIONS Page WITH MAIN ENGINES RUNNING: Engineer s Pre Check Ready System for Operation: 1. Verify that the switches on the Unitor Cabinets are ON (Fig ) 2. Turn on power to the Unitor control panel(s) (Fig ). 3. Turn up dimmer switches (Fig ). 4. Turn on backlighting as required (Fig ). 5. Inform the Pilot of your intentions. 6. As needed, discuss limitations with Pilot and Captain. Pilot House and Forward Boat Deck Monitors: The Port Pilot House Monitor favors forward and traverses along the port side from approximately the 1 o clock on the starboard bow to the 5 o clock position on the starboard quarter. The Starboard Pilot House Monitor favors aft and traverses along the starboard side from the 7 o clock position on the port quarter to the 11 o clock position on the port bow. Although designed to operate alone forward or aft, both monitors can be used together in either direction. Each monitor has its own foam system, storage tank, foam pumps, and proportioner. Pilot House Monitor controls (joysticks) are found on both forward and aft center control consoles (Example: Fig ). Forward Boat Deck Monitor Controls (joysticks) are located on the Forward Console only (Fig ).
7 Page FORWARD CONSOLE Figure Begin Pilot House Monitor Operation: 1. Adjust monitor to safe position; use overhead window to observe. 2. Open the monitor valve. 3. Pilot select set point IDLE. 4. Engage hydraulic clutch. 5. Open pump discharge valve. 6. When good flow (solid stream) is established at IDLE, select final monitor position. 7. Engineer and Pilot coordinate to select appropriate set point. 8. Observe stream and impact zone at all times. 9. Observe engine monitoring systems and below deck cameras.
8 Temporary Shut Down: Page Pilot select set point IDLE. 2. Disengage hydraulic clutch. 3. Close pump discharge valve. 4. To resume operation, the pump discharge valve must be closed for the hydraulic clutch to engage. 5. Always disengage the pump during temporary shut down periods; this will allow the Pilot to select Main Engine set points as needed to maneuver Fireboat 2 without altering the firemain pressure. Shut Down: End of Operation 1. Pilot select set point IDLE. 2. Engineer disengage the hydraulic clutch. 3. Allow 5 to 10 minutes for the system to drain. 4. Close all valves and check Unitor control panel(s) for correct indicating lights. 5. Re-position monitor(s) if necessary. 6. Turn off power to Unitor control panel(s). NOTE The Boat Deck Monitors and the Forward Manifolds follow the same general sequence as the Pilot House Monitors.
