3 Dionex AS-DV Preventive Maintenance These instructions describe a preventive maintenance procedure for the Thermo Scientific Dionex AS-DV Autosampler. The procedure consists of replacing the sampling tip and sample out line (the tubing between the sampling tip and the injection valve or optional high-pressure valve). Thermo Fisher Scientific recommends performing this procedure annually. Included Parts In addition to these instructions, the Dionex AS-DV Preventive Maintenance Kit (P/N ) includes a Dionex AS-DV sampling tip assembly (P/N ). The assembly consists of a length of tubing with a new sampling tip installed on one end. Substitution of non-thermo Scientific/Dionex parts may impair system performance and void the product warranty. For details, see the warranty statement in the Dionex Terms and Conditions. Additional Items Required #1 Phillips screwdriver 3-mm Allen wrench Optional Items Please order the following items separately (if required for your autosampler). If squeaks are occurring during Dionex AS-DV operation, the sampling mechanism requires lubrication. Order TriGEL 300S lead screw lubricant (P/N ) and follow the instructions in Section 2 to lubricate the sampling mechanism. If a high-pressure valve is installed in the autosampler, order a Valve Rebuild Kit (see below) and follow the instructions in Section 3 to rebuild the valve. 4 Dionex AS-DV Preventive Maintenance Preventive Maintenance Checklist For your convenience, a Preventive Maintenance Checklist is provided in Section 4. When you finish the preventive maintenance procedure, record the completed steps, and then save the checklist. The completed checklist verifies that the maintenance is performed at regularly scheduled intervals. Time Required 30 to 60 minutes 1. Replacing the Sampling Tip and Tubing Removing the Old Sampling Tip and Tubing 1. Disconnect the sample out line from the injection valve or optional highpressure valve. Remove the fitting. 2. Press the Carousel Release button to retract the sampling tip to its fully up position. 3. Turn off the Dionex AS-DV power and disconnect the power cord. Raise the top cover. 4. Remove the Dionex AS-DV front cover by gripping the indentations at each side and pulling the cover straight off toward you. 5. Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver to remove the three flathead screws from the sampling head tower cover (see Figure 1). Lift up the cover to remove it. Sampling Head Tower Remove 3 screws Figure 1. 5 Dionex AS-DV Autosampler 6. Use a 3-mm Allen wrench to remove the set screw on the sampling head (see Figure 2). Sampling Head Remove the set screw Figure 2. Removing the Set Screw 7. Remove the sample out line from the tubing clip on the side of the sampling arm (see Figure 3) and then pull slightly on the line to gain a small amount of slack in the line. 6 Dionex AS-DV Preventive Maintenance 8. Slide the tubing out of the slot in the sampling head (see Figure 4). 9. Push the needle down into the carousel a small amount and then twist the needle to allow the sampling tip to exit through the opening in the sensor block. Slide the line out of the slot Sensor Block 10. Slide the yellow sleeve off of the free end of the sample out line tubing (see Figure 5). Save the sleeve. Figure 4. Yellow Sleeve on Sample Out Line 11. Unscrew the sampling tip from the needle and pull out and discard the tip and tubing. 4 Doc /12

7 Dionex AS-DV Autosampler Installing the New Sampling Tip and Tubing 1. Thread the free end of the sampling tip assembly tubing up through the needle and screw the tip into place on the needle. 2. Slide the needle into place under the sampling arm and slide the sampling needle tubing back into the slot in the sampling head. 3. Align the flat sides of the sampling tip so that they fit through the opening in the sensor block. 4. Make sure that the needle is pushed as far as it will go up into the sampling head and then tighten the set screw firmly. Opening in Sensor Block NOTE The set screw must be very tight to secure the sampling needle. 5. Slide the yellow sleeve onto the tubing and position it where the tubing aligns with the tubing clip on the side of the sampling arm (see Figure 3). Secure the tubing in the clip. 6. Thread the free end of the tubing out the aperture on the front of the Dionex AS-DV. 7. If you are going to lubricate the sampling mechanism, go on to Section 2. Then, complete the remaining steps in this section. 8. Reinstall the sampling head tower cover. 9. If an optional high-pressure valve is installed, go on to Section 3 to rebuild the valve. Otherwise, complete the remaining steps below. 10. Reinstall the front cover and close the top cover. 11. Reconnect the sample out line to the valve. 12. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power. Record the completed steps on the Preventive Maintenance Checklist. Doc /12 5

8 Dionex AS-DV Preventive Maintenance 2. Lubricating the Sampling Mechanism Lubricate the sampling mechanism only if squeaking is occurring during Dionex AS-DV operation. 1. Locate the blue nut on the underside of the sampling mechanism. Apply two drops of TriGEL 300S lead screw lubricant (P/N ) below the blue nut on the threads of the lead screw (see Figure 6 and Figure 7). Figure 6. Record the completed steps on the Preventive Maintenance Checklist. 6 Doc /12

9 Dionex AS-DV Autosampler 3. Rebuilding the High-Pressure Valve 1. Turn off the Dionex AS-DV power. The Dionex AS-DV power must be turned off before you rebuild a valve. If the power is on when you disconnect or connect the valve cable, the Dionex AS-DV will be damaged. 2. Raise the top cover. 3. Remove the Dionex AS-DV front cover by gripping the indentations at each side and pulling the cover straight off toward you. 4. Disconnect each liquid line connected to the valve. 5. Remove the 6-port or 10-port high-pressure valve: a. Use a 3-mm Allen wrench to remove the two screws holding the valve assembly in place (see Figure 8). Remove these 2 screws Figure 8. 10 Dionex AS-DV Preventive Maintenance b. Slide the valve assembly partway out of the chassis, press the locking latch on the cable (see Figure 9), and disconnect the cable. Locking Latch Figure 9. Follow the instructions provided in the Valve Rebuild Kit (6-port valve, P/N ; 10-port valve, P/N AAA ) to replace the rotor seal, isolation seal, and stator face. 7. Reinstall the valve assembly and reconnect all liquid lines. 8. Turn on the power to the Dionex AS-DV. 9. Start a test run and check for leaks from the valve. Tighten fittings as required. 10. Reinstall the front cover and close the top cover. Record the completed steps on the Preventive Maintenance Checklist. 8 Doc /12

11 Dionex AS-DV Autosampler 4. Preventive Maintenance Checklist Removed the old sampling tip and sample out line tubing. Removed the yellow sleeve from the tubing. Installed the new sampling tip and sample out line tubing. Installed the yellow sleeve on the tubing and secured the tubing in the clip. (Optional) Lubricated the sampling mechanism. Reinstalled the sampling head tower cover and the front cover. Reconnected the sample out line to the valve and reconnected the power cord.
