5 3 Function On/Off Actuators The motors BM4, BM5 and BM30 are used as electrical actuators on seat valves for on/off-operation. The control is carried through by a 3-step-Signal and actuates the brushless motor. If the actuator strokes to positions OPEN or CLOSED the motor current is lowered. Due to the brushless motor the control signals Y and Y have not to be cut (overload protection is guaranteed!). Control Actuators The actuators BM4C, BM4C/I, BM4C/IOS, BM5C/IOS and BM30C/IOS are used for control valves. The control is continuous with a standard control signal (4-0mA or V). The control signal is processed by a micro controller and actuates the brushless motor. After connecting the supply voltage for the first time the stroke is recorded automatically and stored to the micro controller. Control signal and stroking time are adapted to this stroke. If no correct adaptation can be carried through (e.g. no valve mounted), a new adaptation is tried after the supply voltage has been connected again. If the actuator strokes to positions OPEN or CLOSED the motor current is lowered. The actuator is supplied with an anti-blocking function. If a foreign particle avoids the proper closing of the valve, the actuator moves open and close several times within a stroke range of...5% to wash away the particle from the valve seat. Actuators with spring return (designation xxx-r) tension a spring when the valve opens. In case of a power fail this spring actuates the motor and closes the valve

6 4 Installation Remove all packing materials from the valve. Prior to the installation the pipeline should be checked for contaminations and foreign particles and cleaned in case. The pipes have to be connected stress-free to the installed valve. The pipes must not be pulled up to the valve in any case. Bodies with thread ends have to be sealed by a suitable sealing material. In case of welding the valve to the piping, the ends have to be tack weld first. For final welding actuator and head section have to be unscrewed from the valve body to avoid damage on the sealing elements. Welding work on the piping has to be carried through with a distance from the valve of 50 cm min. Otherwise valve seat and sealings could be damaged. The proper function of the completely mounted valve has to be checked prior to putting the installation into service. The valve mounting position is arbitrary

7 5 Electrical Connection The electrical installation must only be carried through by qualified personnel. Please note the applicable national safety regulations for installation, start-up and operation of the device. All work has to be carried through with no electrical connection. Disregarding the corresponding regulations may cause heavy physical injuries and/or property damage. Wire connections and switching functions are indicated on the type label at the motor cap and in this instruction. Connecting terminals and ground are marked respectively. 9 6 Initial Operation Wash piping and valve prior to start-up carefully and remove all disposits (welding remnants). Check whether all required connections (e.g. electrical connections, pressure supply) are fitting properly and tightly. All BM.. type actuators are factory-adjusted to the mounted valve and tested. Any adaptation or adjustment is not necessary. After repair or replacement of the actuator the adjustment has to be checked a new adaptation has to be carried through in case. 6. On/Off Actuators Under the actuator cap the main cable connection terminals and the operating switch S are located. The factory set stroking time is 7,5 s/mm. Pushing the sliding switch S. to position «ON» reduces the stroking time by 50%. M S ON Sliding switch S. defines the closing direction of the valves. If a voltage is connected to Y the actuating stem retracts as a standard and the valve opens. Additionally the moving direction of the stem can be reversed by reversing the wires Y and Y. 6.. 10 6. Control Actuators Under the actuator cap the main cable connection terminals are located as well as the operating switches S, S, S3 and an LED-display. 11 6.. Basic Functions (Switches S and S3) Switch Function Description push S3 Function test The valve strokes fully with maximal stroking time. The adapted stroke is checked if both end positions (H = 0% and H = 00%) are reached. push S Init (adaptation) The possible stroke between both mechanical end positions is recorded as 00%-stroke and stored to the micro controller. Both set point signal and stroking time are adapted to this 00% stroke Meaning of the LED-Signals Signal Green light, permanent Green light, flashing Red light, permanent Meaning The actuator works perfectly. Test run or adaptation with synchronising is carried through A fault occurred and a new adaptation has to be carried through. Red light, flashing After each power disconnection (> s). With the next closing operation of the valve the selected closing point is synchronised automatically and the LED-display changes from red flashing to permanent green. Alternating red / green light, flashing Addressing via control system and operating of adaptation button S is carried through Additional Funktions IOS-Module The actuators BM4C/IOS, BM5C/IOS und BM30C/IOS are equipped by an addon module. This IOS-Module converts the internal voltage signals of motor control and stroke feedback to current signals (e.g. 4-0mA). Additionally the IOS-Module offers two adjustable limit switches. - -

Adjusting the Limit Switches The limit switches of the IOS-Module are factory-set to 5 and 95%. Via two potentiometers (P and P) on the IOS-plate these settings can be modified as desired. P, P IOS-Platine M LED ON S3 S S Adjustment Via Stroke Position Move the valve by a set point signal to the desired limit switch position. Turn the potentiometer (P for the upper limit switch or P for the lower limit switch), until the limit switch operates. Operating of the limit switches is indicated by the corresponding LED s on the connecting plate. LED LED - -

Adjust the reference voltage for the upper limit switch via potentiometer P (see table). Connect a voltage meter to contacts X0 and X. 14 7 Manual Operation The manual override is located in the casing cap and can be actuated with a hexagon socket screw key (the socket screw key 5 mm or 3/6 is not in the scope of supply). Turning clockwise closes the valve, turning counterclockwise opens the valve. The manual override is connected to a slipping clutch and therefore protected against overload. The valve stem remains in its manual position until the actuator is connected to the nominal supply voltage again. ATTENTION! After operating the manual override the stroke feedback might differ from the real valve position. As soon as the valve returns to its zero position the stroke feedback is synchronized automatically.. Valves with spring return Turn the hexagon socket screw key counter-clockwise by 45 approximately until resistance is felt. Lift the hexagon socket screw key afterwards (7mm approx.), until the black receiver for the key is on the same level as the body cap. The spring package now turns the screw key clockwise. If the hexagon socket screw key is turned counter-clockwise the valve stem retracts and has to be fixed in the desired position. Interlocking the override: Turn the screw key backwards by a clockwise 3/4-turn and push it into the body cap afterwards (black receiver moves downwards by 7mm approx.). Turning the screw key lightly counter-clockwise locks the manual override

15 8 Mounting and Dismounting the Actuator 8. Dismounting the Actuator Shift black locking bow of the stem clutch upwards. PRESS Press clutch together from both sides and simultaneously turn manual override (hexagon socket screw key 5mm or 3/6 ) counter-clockwise until the stem disengages from the clutch. ATTENTION! On actuators with spring return the manual override has to be released first (see chapter manual override ). Loosen locking nuts and pull back U bolt from the actuator bracket. Remove actuator from valve body

16 8. Mounting the Actuator Shift black locking bow of the stem clutch upwards. Mount actuator to valve. Push U bolt into actuator bracket and fix with nuts. Turn manual override (hexagon socket screw key 5mm or 3/6 ) clockwise until the valve stem snaps in the clutch. Turn 4-6 turns back afterwards and check whether the stem snapped in completely. ATTENTION! On valves with spring return the manual override has to be locked afterwards (see chapter manual override) Shift black locking clip of the stem clutch downwards. Control actuators have to be settled with the valve after mounting (adaptation). Press button S in case (see control actuators/basic functions)

17 9 Dismounting and Mounting the Valve 9. Dismounting the Valve Note greasing and bonding plan! Unscrew head section from valve body. Fix head section and unscrew adapter from head section. Pull piston rod downwards from head section. Fix piston rod. (Attention! Avoid damage on the piston rod surface!) Dismount plug

Screw adapter to head section firmly. Push piston rod into the head section from the top. (if the piston rod is pushed in from the bottom sealing elements might be damaged) - 8 -
