Congratulations. You ve just purchased the most advanced flasher available on the market today. This relay-isolated, solid-state module is designed to be installed into vehicles with a positive switched headlight system. When installed correctly, your vehicle s headlights operate normally when this module is deactivated. When activated, the relays isolate the flasher from the vehicle s electrical system, preventing any damage from occurring to the body control module (BCM), or other sensitive circuits. We designed this product to provide the end-user with more flexibility. This document describes: How to activate the flasher s different modes How to change the flash pattern How to customize the pulse count and flash rate How to utilize the Night-time Cutoff Our exclusive One-Touch deactivation/activation How to install the flasher into your vehicle s headlight wiring Installation: Our flashers are completely waterproof and are intended to be mounted in the enginee compartment. Just locate a suitable mounting location away from any heat producing components. Heat is the enemy of most electronic devices. Proper placement of any product increases the longevity and reliability of said product. It s also wise to fuse your flasher s RED supply wire to no more than 15 amps. Fuses protect your wires and your investment. (402) info@ermproducts.net Page 1 of 7
NOTE: When mounting the flasher, you may want to select a location that provides easy access to the programming buttons, should you wish to change the flash pattern at a later time. What s Next? In the following section, you will learn: How to active and program modes 1 and 2 How to select and program the desired flash pattern How to Active/Deactivate the night-time cutoff feature How to install your flasher Activating and Programming Modes 1 and 2: This flasher is programmed with two activation modes. They are progressive modes which means that Mode 2 will override Mode 1 when activated. This also means that you may program two flash patterns into your headlight flasher s memory. To activate Mode 1, apply a +12 Volt source to the RED wire with a BLACK stripe. To activate Mode 2, apply a +12 Volt source to the RED wire with a WHITE stripe. Each of these modes can be programmed using the instructions below. Each of these wires will activate the flasher independently of each other, but Mode 2 will always override Mode 1 when both wires are activated. Pushbuttons: This flasher has three waterproof pushbuttons. The left button is the multi-purpose button, the middle is the scroll down button and the right is the scroll up button. Manipulating these buttons in a particular sequence is what allows you to access the multiple features of this module. Page 2 of 7
Flash Pattern Selection: Selecting a flash pattern is easy. With the module oriented with the buttons on the bottom row (pictured above), pressing either the center or right buttons will scroll down or up through the flash pattern list. Each pattern can further be manipulated for a more custom effect. Upon reaching the end of the pattern list when either scrolling forward or in reverse, the program will always wrap around to the beginning or the end of the pattern list. Flash Pattern Manipulation: When you find your desired flash pattern, you can then manipulate the speed and/or pulse count for that particular pattern. To change whether the flash pattern will display a single, double or even more pulses per headlight, simply press and hold the center and right buttons (scroll down and up). While holding these buttons down, press and release the left program button the number of times you wish for the headlights to illuminate. The headlights will flash each time the button is pressed. When you are done, release all the buttons. To change the speed of the flash rate, simple press and hold down the left program button and use either the scroll down or up buttons to slow down or speed up the flash pattern. The new effect will display when all buttons are released. When manipulating the variable speed patterns (patterns 5-10), you can adjust the slow side of the flash pattern. This means you are able to adjust how long it takes to reach the peak of the pattern before it returns to the bottom of the flash rate. There are a total of 14 base flash patterns to choose from. Each pattern can be manipulated, giving you the option of literally hundreds of available patterns. To reset any given flash rate to its default setting, hold down the program button followed by the scroll down and then scroll up buttons. Release all buttons to restore the original flash rate. Night-time Override Feature: In certain states, headlight flashers are not allowed to be used at night. In other instances, certain makes of vehicles should not use headlight flashers at night. One such instance is for vehicles that utilize a single bulb with a dual filament design, such as Dodge s Dakota, Durango and Ram series. If the headlight flasher is operated with this style headlight assembly, the excess heat buildup from two filaments being activated simultaneously is known to cause headlight housing damage. Care should be taken to avoid operating the flasher in this scenario as the installer will be responsible for any damage to the headlight assembly. To do this, simply connect the flasher s WHITE wire to your vehicle s +12 Volt parking light wire. The flasher will automatically disable when your parking lights are turned on and the flasher is enabled. Page 3 of 7
DRL Interfering with the Flasher? Your flasher should be installed on a vehicle without Daytime Running Lights on the high beam wire. Depending on the circuit design of the DRL system, as it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, the DRL voltage MAY trigger the flasher override circuitry due to the voltage presence. One way to get around this is to deactivate the one-touch feature. To do this, follow the steps below. Disabling or Enabling the One-Touch Feature: If you need to disable the one-touch feature, after having properly installed the flasher, activate the flasher and turn the high beams on. The flasher should stop flashing and the high beams should be on steady. If this happens, press the program button once and then turn off the high beams. Turning on the high beams again should have no effect and the flasher should continue to flash. If you need to enable the one-touch feature after it has been turned off; turn on the flasher and turn on your high beams. The headlights should still be flashing. Press the program button once and then turn off the high beams. The flasher resumes flashing. By turning on the high beams again, you should now see the override function working. Using the One-Touch Deactivation/Activation Feature: If you need to turn off your headlight flasher when it is activated, all you need to do is use your Flash-to- Pass switch. A single pulse of your switch will turn off the flasher. To reactivate, another single pulse will reactivate the flasher after a two second delay OR when cycling power to the headlight flasher, the flasher defaults to ON. When the flasher is operating, multiple pulses deactivate the flasher for a short period of time to allow the driver to use the Flash-to-Pass feature. Two seconds after the last pulse is recognized, the flasher will resume operation. You no longer need a dedicated switch to deactivate your headlight flasher or turn off a group of lights such as your grille lights; should the trigger wire share the same supply. Why might you need this feature? This will be useful when responding in fog at night, or when on-scene or even driving through kicked up dust on dirt roads, which makes driving more difficult. Finishing the Install: After everything has been installed, we recommend protecting your wires by enclosing them in wire loom and securing them in place using wire ties. This preserves your wiring for longer, trouble-free service. Testing: After all connections have been made, test the operation of the headlight flasher. Start by testing the normal operation of your low and high beams with the flasher turned off. Next, activate your headlight flasher. Your headlights should be flashing to the selected pattern. With your headlights flashing, activate your Flash-to-Pass switch. Multiple pulses temporarily deactivates the flasher for Page 4 of 7

They are a single fuse system and a dual fuse system. The easiest way to identify this is to look at your fuse panel or vehicle s operating manual. When you find your headlight fuse, a dual fuse system will indicate a fuse for the left high beam and right high beam. Different manufacturers use different abbreviations for their labels, so please reference your owner s manual for their definitions. Reviewing the picture below, compare your setup to the appropriate diagram and cut your wires where indicated by the X. Cutting the wires in the correct location will make utilizing the flasher and its features less troublesome. Regardless of which setup your vehicle is, each wire cut creates the same electrical detour in both setups. Page 5 of 7
Important Note: This is an example setup and does not mean your vehicle is wired in the same manner. It is the responsibility of the installer to verify and understand the vehicle s electrical system. For this flasher to operate properly, it needs to be installed correctly. Improper installation or a failure to understand your vehicle s electrical system can cause damage to the flasher and/or your vehicle s electrical system. Electrical Considerations Installing this 12 Volt flasher in a vehicle that provides 24 Volts or greater will damage the relays on this product. Each relay has a load rating of 10 Amps and should not be exceeded in order to prolong the life of the relays. To further protect the product, it is recommended for the installer to install a 15 Amp fuse to the main supply wire. Fuses protect your investments!
