Cooking leads to a build-up of steam and vapour within the room. This can cause wet walls and furniture and leads to all sorts of problems from peeling wallpaper to mould spots. Kitchen units and doors can also be affected as they absorb water and begin to stick. Even cooking oils can be vaporised and leave an unsightly oily film around the cooker and units. There is also the problem with cooking smells that can spread through the house and linger. 9 Sound Insulation To assist in your choice of Franke hood we have used symbols as a guide to the relative noise level you may expect in a typical sized kitchen, where an optimum noise level of 55 decibels is ideal. Effective sound insulation is important in ensuring a calm, welcoming kitchen environment. To put your mind at rest, we equip our products with an automatic cut off timer. This feature is also extremely useful for those who wish to leave the extractor running for a short while after leaving the kitchen to remove any lingering smells. Continuous 24 Hour ventilation Keep your kitchen feeling fresh and clear of unwanted odours with the 24 hour ventilation function which provides a constant flow of clean air running through the room at various intervals. Perimetric Extraction Perimeter method extraction offers superior levels of efficiency, with air flowing around the edges of the hood panels. Based on the principles of the Venturi effect, air accelerates as it passes through the constricted space, then decreases immediately as it enters the hood, providing terrific extraction without requiring added pressure. Filtering Function Where a Franke hood is installed in an environment where no external flue is available, fumes can be managed by recycling the air going into the unit. These models utilise the latest charcoal filters to trap undesired odours. Digital Display Utilising the latest in digital technology, Franke offer simple and versatile controls for the hood. 10 Which Franke hood is most suitable? Apart from the different stylistic options, the main factor determining choice of hood is the size of the kitchen. The hood must be powerful enough to change the air in the room 10 times an hour, when in operation. To decide which hood to choose, first calculate the volume of the room. This figure can be arrived at by multiplying room length x width x height. So a kitchen that is 4 x 4 x 2.5 metres has a volume of 40 m3 (see diagram). So our kitchen of 40 m3 x 10 = 400 meaning it would require an extraction rate of 400 m3/h for efficient ventilation of the room. For optimum extraction capability ensure that the hood width is equivalent or greater than the width of your hob. 10

Filter Saturation Indicator Ensuring that a Franke Hood is always operating at its optimum performance level is simple with a function that indicates when the filters require maintenance. The metal filters on Franke hoods can be easily cleaned in a dishwasher, whilst the indicator also notifies when to replace charcoal filters when fitted. Air Curtain System This innovative function creates a curtain of air which is forced downwards from the extended section on the front of the hood. This encloses smoke and cooking vapours in the hob area and increases extraction efficiency, allowing the hood to be operated on a lower setting, which in turn saves energy and reduces noise. Franke Silence Key (Sil-K) technology cancels out noise created by air flowing through the diffuser and the filters.
