Unpacking CO2 Cooling Kit Check for the following parts in the kit: Description Quantity P/No 1 Cryogenic Valve Extension Cable CO2 Cryogenic Solenoid Valve Assembly Thermal Isolation Pipe, Polyethylene Foam, 2m Stainless Steel Tubing 1/8" OD, 1.5 m Stainless Steel Tubing 1/8" OD, 35 mm Stainless Steel Tubing 1/16" OD, 230 mm Reducing Union 1/8 in. Tube OD x 1/16 in. Tube Tools To perform the installation the following tools are required: 1. 1x cross-tip screwdriver Philips x cross-tip screwdriver Philips x spanner ½ in. 4. 2x spanner 7/16 in. 5. 1x spanner 5/16 in. 3. Installation Prerequisites Cooling media: CO2 cylinder connection A high pressure CO2 gas cylinder equipped with a deep (siphon) pipe. 1/8 in. Swagelok compatible male pneumatic fitting is required to connect cooling option to the CO2 cylinder. 4. Installation This section describes the installation of the OPTIC-4 inlet CO2 cooling option. 4.1 Safety Warning! Before installation: Switch OFF OPTIC controller and disconnect mains cable! Allow OPTIC inlet to cool down to temperature < 50 C! ATAS GL International B.V. Page 4

5 4.2 Gas Lines Connections Refer to the connection diagram shown in Appendix A while performing the steps described in this and following sections: 1. Connect one end of the 1.5 meter, 1/8 in. tube ( ) to the inlet cooling port (Fig. 1). Fig Isolate the tube with a piece of the polyethylene foam pipe ( ) of a required length. 3. Connect the 1/16 to 1/8 in. reducing fitting ( ) to a free end of the 1/8 in. isolated tube. 4. Connect one end of the 1/16 in. tube ( ) to the reducing fitting. Isolate the tube with a piece of the polyethylene foam isolation. 5. Connect the OUTLET PORT of the cryogenic valve assembly ( ) to a free end of the 1/16 in. tube. 6. Connect a free port of the valve assembly to one end of a short piece of the 1/8 in. tube ( ). Isolate the tube with the remaining part of the polyethylene foam pipe. Decide on the valve and cylinder locations and bend the tube assembly accordingly. 7. Connect free end of the tube/valve assembly to the CO2 cylinder. 4.3 Electrical Connection Connect C. Valve port on the back of OPTIC controller to the cryogenic valve. Use the cryogenic valve extension cable supplied with the kit. NOTE! Do not confuse the inlet cooling valve connection C. 6 5. Installation Verification To verify the option installation: Check the neatness of the installation and isolation of the tubing s. To test the installation, switch ON the OPTIC controller. Set the standby inlet temperature to -30 C and open the CO2 supply valve on the cylinder. Wait until the temperature set point is reached. In the very first run, it can take approx. 3-4 min to cool the inlet down to -30 C. Check if there are no leaks in the CO2 supply line. In case the leak is found, close the CO2 supply, let the line warm up and dry, retighten the leaking connection and repeat the test again. ATAS GL International B.V. Page 6
