Thoroughly examine all components and units as soon as they are received. If damaged, write a complete and detailed description of the damage on the face of the freight bill. The carrier's agent must verify the inspection and sign the description. 2. Immediately notify the delivering carrier of damage or loss. This notification may be given either in person or by telephone. Written confirmation must be mailed within 48 hours. Railroads and motor carriers are reluctant to make adjustments for damaged merchandise unless inspected and reported promptly. 3. Risk of loss, or damage to merchandise remains with the buyer. It is the buyer's responsibility to file a claim with the carrier involved. Immediately advise your Veeder-Root representative, distributor, or the factory so that we may assist you. RETURN SHIPPING All product returns, including warranty replacements, repairs, and core credits, must be returned on an RGA (Returned Goods Authorization) for proper processing. To return a product under this procedure: 1. Call Customer Service at (800) to obtain an RGA number. 2. Clearly print the RGA number on the packages being returned. No package can be received without this number. 3. All shipments of Veeder-Root products must be prepaid. 4. If the Magnetostrictive Probe is damaged, return it in the original shipping container with shock absorbing material provided. Veeder-Root will accept no liability for damage caused by improper packing. 5. Address the shipment to Veeder-Root Co., 6th Avenue at Burns Crossing, Altoona, Pennsylvania All warranty returns must also include a legible WSR (warranty service report) with problem description and corrective action sections filled out in detail. 4 Introduction This manual describes how to identify and assemble the components of Standard Magnetostrictive Probes - Form Number 8473, Low Level Magnetostrictive Probes - Form Number 8493 (available selected areas only), and a special Mag Probe kit for international LPG tank installations. Instructions are included for assembling floats onto the probe shaft, attaching spacer rings to the probe canister, and attaching the probe s cable to the canister. For guidelines on site preparation, instructions on installing the Mag Probe into a tank, and instructions on connecting wiring from the Mag Probe to the console, refer to the appropriate Veeder-Root Site Preparation and Installation Manual. Important Some of the installation kit components, such as epoxy packs, will be needed when installing the Mag Probe into the tank. Do not discard any unused parts. Make a record of the float size installed on each Mag Probe. The installed float size will be required for each probe during system setup. Contractor Certification Requirements Veeder-Root requires the following minimum training certifications for contractors who will install and setup the equipment discussed in this manual: Level 1 Level 2/3 Contractors holding valid Level 1 Certification are approved to perform wiring and conduit routing, equipment mounting, probe and sensor installation, tank and line preparation, and line leak detector installation. Contractors holding valid Level 2 or 3 Certifications are approved to perform installation checkout, startup, programming and operations training, troubleshooting and servicing for all Veeder-Root Tank Monitoring Systems, including Line Leak Detection and associated accessories. Warranty Registrations may only be submitted by selected Distributors. 8 Assembling Mag Probe Components Attaching Mag Probe Canister Spacer Rings 1. Open the Mag Probe shipping carton so that you have access to the probe. Also open the installation kit. 2. Following the instructions in Figure 4, install the proper spacer rings (3 or 4 ) onto the probe canister (although outwardly different, both the 3 and 4 rings are attached in the same way onto the canister). Top spacer ring (locking tabs up) Locking tab (3) Cut (3) After aligning spacer ring locking tabs over cuts, slide the ring down until its tabs rest on the bottom of the cuts. Twist spacer ring in either direction until locking tabs seat in notches. Notch (3) Up Canister Before sliding floats and boots over probe shaft, slide spacer ring over bottom of canister until locking tabs snap into groove. The Product floats, Water Floats (if ordered), and Boots from Mag Probe Installation Kits are assembled on 8473/8493 probe shafts in the exact sequence and orientation shown in Figure 5. Failure to snap the boot locking tabs into the locking indents on the probe shaft could cause the boot and float(s) to fall into the tank. Water floats must installed, if ordered, for the Mag Probe to operate correctly. Handle the Mag Probe carefully. Striking or dropping the probe will result in loss of calibration and could cause permanent damage. 5

Mag Probe float installation Attaching Cable Connector to Probe Canister Attach the connector end of the Mag Probe cable to the threaded connector on top of the probe canister and tighten down the integral nut. This completes the Mag Probe assembly. Save the remaining kit components. They will be needed to install the Mag Probe into the tank.
