3 Seat cushions According to the ECE 44 Regulation The contents of one set of seat cushions according to the Regulation ECE 44, as supplied by Humanetics, are as follows: One seat cushion with two cut-away sections One seat back cushion One piece of cover material for the seat cushion (1250 x 1200 mm) One piece of cover material for the seat back cushion (1250 x 850 mm) The aluminum plate is not supplied, because the shape, the dimensions and the manner of mounting the plate to the trolley depend on each individual sled. On pages 4-8 of this document, a copy of Annex 6, Section and Annex 6, Appendix 1 of Regulation ECE 44 (Revision 1-Amendments June 2002) are provided. The Appendix gives advice on how to assemble the seat. The marking lines that are referred to in the Appendix are not yet drawn on the cover material delivered. 4 Annex 6 Section Covering the Seat and the Seat Back The seat foam cushion is produced out of a square foam block (800 x 575 x 135 mm) in such a way (Figure 1) that its shape resembles the shape of the aluminum bottom-plate specified in Figure Six holes are drilled in the bottom-plate in order to fasten it to the trolley with bolts. The holes are drilled alongside the longest side of the plate, three on each side, their position being dependent on the construction of the trolley. Six bolts are put through the holes. It is recommended to glue the bolts on the plate with an appropriate adhesive. Afterwards, the bolts are fastened with nuts The cover material (1250 x 1200 mm, Figure 3) is cut across the width in such a way that it is not possible for the material to overlap after covering. There should be a gap of about 100 mm between the edges of the cover material. Therefore the material has to be cut at about 1200 mm The cover material is marked with two lines which run across the width. They are drawn 375 mm from the centerline of the cover material. (Figure 3) The seat foam cushion is placed upside down on the cover material with the aluminium bottom-plate on top On both sides the cover material is stretched until the lines drawn on it match the edges of the aluminum bottom-plate. At each bolt position, small incisions are made and the cover material is pulled over the bolts At the position of the grooves in the bottom-plate and in the foam, the cover material should be incised The cover is glued to the aluminum plate with flexible glue. The nuts to be removed before gluing The flaps on the side are folded onto the plate and are glued as well The flaps in the grooves are folded inside and taped with a strong tape The flexible glue has to dry for at least 12 hours The seat back cushion is covered in exactly the same way as the seat, only the lines on the cover material (1250 x 850 mm) are drawn 320 mm apart from the centerline of the material Line Cr is coincident with the intersection line between the top plane of the seat and the front lane of the seat back.
