4 2 INTRODUCTION (DMX and sampling valve manual control) This operation is required to access the diaphragm. It is simple and can be performed on site as it does not involve any particular difficulties. It corresponds to the majority of maintenance operations on this type of valve. 5 3 DISASSEMBLING THE VALVE 3.1 CLAMP AND DIAPHRAGM Remove the clamp. Slide the diaphragm out of its housing. 3.2 HANDLE Unscrew cap and screw (1). Remove handle (2). Remove handle cover (3) Clamp Diaphragm IT-TDFX-039 Revision 2 Page 5/26 February 2003
6 ² MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DMX AND DMAX DIAPHRAGM 4 INTRODUCTION (DMAX and sampling automatic control valve) A DMAX or sampling DMAX diaphragm valve is disassembled in two distinct steps: 4.1 DISASSEMBLING THE VALVE Extract the actuator and shut-off unit from the body. This operation is required to access the diaphragm and remove the actuator. It is simple and can be performed on site as it does not involve any particular difficulties. It corresponds to the majority of maintenance operations on this type of valve (switch from an NC to an NO valve and vice-versa and diaphragm change). 4.2 DISASSEMBLING THE ACTUATOR (to change the actuator inner seals) This operation must be performed with special tools and with all due precautions. 7 5 SIGNAL-BACK UNIT First of all, if the valve is equipped with a signal-back unit, it may be necessary to separate the signal-back assembly from the actuator to make it easier to disassemble. To do this: 1. Remove the air supply line from the unit and the one from the actuator (NC (Normally Closed) and DA (Double Acting) only) and take off the cover: Stainless steel covers: Unscrew the nut (1), then remove the washer (2) and the stainless steel cover. Smoked plastic covers: Twist the cover to clear the lugs on the base. 2. Once the cover has been removed, unscrew the gland, identify and disconnect the wires from the terminal strip, then remove the power cable. 3. Remove the base from the actuator: Stainless steel cover base: Unscrew the hex. socket head screw (6) and the threaded rod (5) and remove the base from the actuator. Smoked plastic cover base: Unscrew the hex. socket head screws (6) and remove the base from the actuator. 4. Remove the cam (32) from the actuator by unscrewing the centre screw or by unscrewing it by means of the flat sides. (On units with contacts, disassemble the cam before removing the base). 1 2 UNIT WITH SMOKED PLASTIC COVER Driving hole UNIT WITH STAINLESS STEEL COVER 5 Perforated plug to vent the unit. If the valve is fitted horizontally, put the vent hole at the bottom. 6 Base N.B. Make sure that you do not lose the ring (28) located under the base on removal. 8 6 CLAMP AND DIAPHRAGM Feed air to the NC valve to relieve the clamp of the compressive stress of the spring. Remove the clamp. Switch off the air to the diaphragm valve actuator. Remove the actuator and shut-off assembly from the body of the diaphragm valve. Slide the diaphragm out of its housing. Air Clamp IT-TDFX-039 Revision 2 Page 8/26 February 2003
9 7 DISASSEMBLING THE ACTUATOR 7.1 INTRODUCTION The first operation consists of removing the air coupling, the plastic plug and the Skiffy caps, then removing the hex head screw and the pin protection cam. 10 7.2 CHANGING THE INTERNAL PARTS OF THE ACTUATOR This is a dangerous operation if it is not done with suitable equipment. We recommend using a hydraulic press or equipment as illustrated below. Remember to design a spring expansion distance of 100 mm into the equipment. Position the actuator vertically. Push in the lantern (5). Remove the snap ring (6) from its groove with a small screwdriver. Release the pressure to raise the lantern (5). Remove the lantern with its O-ring (7). 11 8 CHANGING THE SEALS AND REFITTING 8.1 INTRODUCTION Our valve components are listed and identified in our folder and CD-Rom in the Spare Parts Catalogue section. Here you will find the information required to order your spare parts. 8.2 FITTING THE ACTUATOR BEWARE REFER TO THE NEXT SECTION TO CHANGE THE ACTUATOR CONFIGURATION FROM N.C. TO N.O. This operation is carried out in reverse order to disassembly. However, the following remarks must be taken into account: A guide pin positioned on the actuator stem centres the piston in the shaft. It also prevents the piston from being ejected if the spring slips during compression. Before refitting the components, lubricate the assembly with a suitable grease (water and temperature-resistant bearing grease). Avoid damaging the seals on the edges of the components. Avoid damaging the O-ring (7) on refitting the lantern. Make sure that the snap ring (6) is correctly positioned in the groove before releasing the pressure. Work the actuator with air before continuing the refitting operation. IT-TDFX-039 Revision 2 Page 11/26 February 2003
12 8.3 CHANGING THE ACTUATOR CONFIGURATION Conversion of an NC actuator to NO. For your safety, make sure that the snap ring is correctly positioned in its groove. The snap ring must be replaced if damaged or deformed. IT-TDFX-039 Revision 2 Page 12/26 February 2003
13 8.4 REFITTING THE VALVE This operation is also carried out in reverse order to disassembly. The following recommendations must be observed: Centre the diaphragm on the actuator before inserting it into the valve. Remember to open the air supply to the actuator before tightening the clamp. Before finally connecting up to the system, check that the valve is operating normally. If you encounter any difficulties in carrying out the operations described above, please do not hesitate to contact us. 14 8.5 REFITTING A DN AND/OR DN VALVE EQUIPPED WITH AN ELASTOMER DIAPHRAGM This operation is carried out in the same way as on PTFE diaphragm valves but requires the use of appropriate equipment (25 mm dia., 22 mm long tube and 28 mm dia., 4 mm thick C- washer). Centre the diaphragm on the actuator and open the air supply to the actuator. Put the 25 mm dia. tube on the piston stem and the C-washer in the groove in the piston stem. Remove the air pressure from the actuator. Position the diaphragm in the valve body. Fit the clamp.
