With units to manage supply, control and exhaust air, filtering, odour and air purification with UV-light and also fire protection, we have covered all possible needs. Since the hoods are available in both glass and stainless steel there are great opportunities for customized designs. WELL-LIT AND AIRY ENVIRONMENT Our hoods do not have any disturbing partitions which makes for a well-lit and practical working area. The open construction allows air to flow through the hood unhindered. A great deal of freedom is also achieved in regard to where kitchen equipment can be placed. CLEANING - A STRAIGHT FORWARD ROUTINE Smooth surfaces that are easy to wipe off and clean shapes, without places for dirt and grime to hide, are self-evident for us. Our integrated supply air terminals and recessed lighting are two good examples of design that makes cleaning easy. DELIVERED IN COMPLETE MODULES OR AS A FLAT PACK Acticon hoods are delivered in factory assembled modules complete with sides, ceiling, recessed lighting and filters. The assembled modules hang from the ceiling on rods and are easily assembled on site. In our Evac range (see separate brochure) the hoods are delivered in flat-packs. 6 THE OPTIMAL CYCLONE FILTER With Cyklotec we have developed the market s most effective cyclone filter. It has an extremely high grease separation capacity even at varying airflows. The right amount of air being expelled is also guaranteed since the design of the filter prevents clogging. CYKLOTEC TECHNOLOGY The filtration in the cyclone filter functions by subjecting the particles to centrifugal force. This spins them out to the walls of the cylinder where they condense and run down into the filter s collection vessel. So the higher the speed, the greater the centrifugal force and with it, the filtering effect. Cyklotec s filter cylinders have a unique spiral form that accelerates the velocity of the air. The aerodynamic shape provides extremely high speed even at low air flow rates. This is the secret behind Cyklotec s superior performance. ALSO PERFECT AT VARIABLE FLOW RATES The effective reduction of the quantity of grease in the extract air from large-scale kitchens is crucial to the fire risk and need for cleaning the exhaust ducts. Cyklotec separates all particles larger than 7 µm at the recommended flow rate and larger than 9 µm at half flow rate. As opposed to conventional cyclone filters, Cyklotec can therefore, with retained particle separation, be used in kitchens with fans running at half or full speed. Since each filter cassette works within a wide flow rate range, few cassettes are normally required in the hood to accommodate the kitchen s filtration needs. This also facilitates maintenance since fewer cassettes need to be removed for washing in a dishwasher. The secret behind Cyklotec s superior performance lies in the unique spiral form of the filter. The filter is equally effective with large and small air flow perfect for systems with demand-controlled ventilation GREASE AND SMELL REDUCTION WITH UV LIGHT An effective grease reduction system is needed in order to recycle heat energy from the kitchen s extracted air. In the UV SAFE system, cyclone filters are combined with UV light purification. After separating the particles in the cyclone filter, the residual impurities in the extract air are exposed to UV light. This starts a chemical reaction that breaks down grease and other impurities to harmless by-products, carbon dioxide and water vapour. The warm exhaust air can then be used for heat exchange purposes. UV SAFE also reduces the smell of the exhaust air, which is beneficial when air from, for example, a restaurant kitchen would otherwise have a disturbing effect on the surroundings. Cyklotec comprises a filter housing with filter cassettes. Each cassette contains ten cyclones (spiral formed cylinders) 6

7 UNIQUE AIR TERMINALS The air terminals are entirely integrated into the sides of the hood. We have hidden the mechanism behind the front of the unit. The hood s smooth lines and neat design contribute to giving the kitchen a relaxed and airy feel. The air terminals can be placed on one or several sides of the hood. Fresh air is supplied to the kitchen via air terminals that are integrated into the hood s sides. Control air enhance the capacity to trap odours. The exhaust air is effectively filtered in the cyclone filter. The recessed lighting is dust and water tight INTEGRATED AIR TERMINALS For effective preheating of the supply air, the air terminal directs the air at an angle towards the ceiling. Here it mixes with the warm air in the room before reaching the occupied zone. The air movement in the occupied zone is barely noticeable resulting in a draught-free working environment. The air terminals are impressively quiet which also contributes to a good working environment. Since they work well with a wide range of flow rates, our air terminals are ideal for solutions with demand-controlled ventilation. SMART FUNCTIONS The air terminal is equipped with an comfort nozzle which emits a small quantity of fresh air. Smart, comfort nozzles make it possible for kitchen personnel to adjust air flow according to their needs. The air terminals are combined supply and control air distribution units. The control air prevents the impure air from leaking out under the edge of the hood. Each air terminal is preset at the factory to the desired air flow rate with a pressure drop of 0 Pa. 24 CYKLOTEC CYCLONE FILTER One of Sweden s most effective grease filters for professional kitchens Separates all particles larger than 7 µm Filters effectively at variable flow rates Constant pressure drop always yields the correct exhaust air flow No moving parts or electrical motors Reduced risk of fire and simplified cleaning of duct system The filter housing is factory mounted onto the hood s ceiling DESCRIPTION The Cyklotec cyclone filter consists of a filter housing with damper, pressure tap and a number of filter cassettes. Each cassette contains ten cyclones (spiral formed cylinders). The Cyklotec has uniquely effective grease separation even at variable air flow rates. The effective filtering minimizes the risk of fire and reduces maintenance of the duct system. The filter s design prevents clogging which always guarantees the correct exhaust air flow. Since each filter cassette functions within a broad flow rate range, kitchens needs are normally met using a small number of cassettes. The cassettes are easily removed and cleaned in the dishwashing machine. A filter cassette consists of ten cyclones. The cassettes are easily removed for cleaning in the dishwashing machine FUNCTION The exhaust air rate in the cyclone determines how effectively the separation of particles occurs. Higher speeds make for more effective separation but also a larger pressure drop. In the range of 0-90 Pa, the cyclone filter works effectively at a low noise level. The Cyklotec separates all particles larger than 7 µm at the recommended flow and 9 µm at 50% rate. For this reason the Cyklotec can be used in kitchens where the fan is used at both full and 50% rates and retain adequate particle separation. The Cyklotec s filter cylinder has a unique spiral design that creates an accelerated air speed. The aerodynamic design provides much higher air speeds even at low air flow rates. This is the secret behind the Cyklotec s superior performance. Air containing grease flows into the cyclone. When the air circulates at a great speed in the cyclone the grease and particles are hurled against the walls of the cyclone due to the centrifugal forces exerted. Grease and grime drip down the walls to the filter s collection vessel 4. The filtered air flows out of the cyclone filter and is transported into the exhaust duct 4

Exhaust air is filtered in three stages. First, most of the grease particles are separated in the cyclone filter Cyklotec. Then, further filtering and temperature reduction occur at the wire mesh filter. Finally, the remaining grease and odours (gases) are exposed to UV-light in the filter housing s reaction chamber. This process also continues in the exhaust air duct. The UV-light breaks down the grease s molecule chains into smaller components. Ozone then converts the decomposed grease molecules into carbon dioxide, water and a small amount of dust. These residual products are then transported out along with the exhaust air. Any residual ozone becomes oxygen. For the best possible decomposing of grease and elimination of odours, the exhaust air should be in contact with the ozone for at least two seconds to ensure a sufficient reaction. The duct s length should therefore be dimensioned, so that it takes at least two seconds for the air to flow from the filter out into the open air. FILTERING The exhaust air is filtered in three stages. GREATER RELIABILITY WITH AIR-COOLED ELECTRONICS All electronics such as ballast that controls the UV-lights are sensitive to high temperatures. Already at ambient temperatures of 50 0 C does the lifetime and reliability decrease dramatically. The consequence may be that not enough current is supplied to the UV-lights. Then these will not emit enough power or go out completely. In our design the ballasts are air-cooled, which ensures full power of the UV-lights even at temperatures of 90 0 C in the exhaust air. It is also important to protect the electronics from grease and ozone. We have therefore designed the air cooling so that all greased air and ozone are prevented from coming in direct contact with the ballast, EMC-filter, holders and cables. REDUCED ODOURS Odours are almost always produced when food is prepared. These substances are often in gas form and cannot be captured by conventional filters. This is why odours are released into the open air with the exhaust air from the kitchen. With the UV SAFE can these odours be reduced to a minimum. The ozone oxidizes together with the odour producing molecules and only water, oxygen and carbon dioxide remain. Eliminating unwanted odours with ozone is a well-tested method. This technique is common in fields such as the fish, food and process industries.. The cyclone filter separates with centrifugal force. The grease condenses against the cyclone s wall and runs down into a collecting vessel. When the air passes through the wire mesh filter the temperature drops and a steady air flow is created. This is important in order to optimize the UV-light s beneficial effects. The UV-light and ozone are produced by the fluorescent lamp in the filter housing s reaction chamber. When the air flow comes into contact with the UV-light and ozone, the remaining grease is broken down and odours are reduced 6

27 FIRE SAFETY WITH CLEAN DUCTS The efficient -stage filtering minimizes the need to clean the exhaust ducts. Since no inflammable grease reaches and sticks to the inside of the exhaust duct, the risk of fire via the duct system is minimized. UTILIZING HEAT IN EXHAUST AIR Grease-laden air from professional kitchens is not especially suitable for heat recycling despite the large amount of energy it contains. The hot, exhaust air that is filtered with the UV SAFE is free from grease and is very suitable for heat exchange purposes. Any possible transfer of odours can be avoided by using batteries with separate input and output air connections. When a rotary heat exchanger is used, possible odour transfer is avoided if the system is equipped with an active charcoal filter from Acticon. ACTIVATED COAL FILTER Our activated coal filters absorb gaseous impurities. To ensure effective filtering it is important that the contaminated air is in contact with the activated coal for as long as possible. A contact time of 0.5 second is sufficient in most cases. After a period of use the activated coal becomes saturated and its effectiveness declines. The useful life time of the filter is dependent upon the amount of activated coal it contains and the type of contamination in the exhaust air. The normal useful life time of a filter varies from between six months to two years. The illustration shows an activated coal filter and a mounting frame for 6 individual filter cartridges. These filter cartridges are filled with.5 kg of activated coal. The cartridges are easily mounted and held in place with a bayonet mount CONTROL PANEL UV SAFE is controlled by the control panel. All necessary information is available on the panel. On the bottom of the panel it shows how many hours there are left until replacement of the UV tubes, and when it s time for cleaning. With a single keystroke you enter into the maintenance and service menu. The keypad is activated by pressing the screen. The light-emitting diode (LED) on the bottom left glows green during operation OPERATION TIME 000 HOURS The UV-tubes has a life time of 000 hours. The system counts down the time during operation. On the control panel it shows how many operation hours it remains before lamp replacement. If any of the UV-tubes stop to light, the light of the corresponding LED on the filter housing cover will also disappear. EASY CLEANING FOR SAFE OPERATION When cleaning, open the filter housing cover so that the wire mesh filter and the cyclone filter can be taken down for cleaning in the dishwasher. When the cover is opened, the UV-light tubes are also easily accessible for wiping, which should always be carried out in conjunction with the filter cleaning. Through this design, all important components that requires regular cleaning gets completely visible and easily accessible. Nothing can be forgotten. The system also reminds by an audio signal when it is time for cleaning. UV SAFE is a user-friendly system, whose design ensures an efficient and safe operation.. When the wire mesh filter and cyclone filter must be taken down for cleaning, the cover is opened and the UV-fluorescent lamps becomes accessible for cleaning 7
