1 Component P Kia Amanti 3.5L Eng DTC P0016 CRANKSHAFT POSITION CAMSHAFT POSITION CORRELATION (BANK 1 SENSOR A) COMPONENT LOCATION Question: p0016 after timing belt replacement Fig 1: Identifying Crankshaft Position Camshaft Position Correlation Location GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) and the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) are a hall effect type sensors that generate voltage using a sensor and a target wheel. The CMPS signal is sent to the PCM and the PCM uses the its signal for synchronizing the firing of sequential fuel injectors.and the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) is sent to the PCM and it calculates engine RPM by using the CKPS' s signal and controls the injection duration and the ignition timing. DTC DESCRIPTION 1/8

2 If the relative angle between CKPS and CMPS is out of the threshold value, the PCM determines that a fault exists and a DTC is stored. 6 NO 1. Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor' s and/or PCM' s connector or was repaired and PCM memory was not cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and go to "VERIFCATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure. 1. Go to "COMPONENT INSPECTION " procedure. COMPONENT INSPECTION 1. Check sensor installation 1. Ignition "OFF" 2. Disconnect CMPS & CKPS connector. 3. Check CKPS and CMPS for deformation, proper installation. 4. Are all CKPS and CMPS installed well? YES NO 2. Check Timing Marks 1. Go to "Check Timing Marks" as below. 1. Repair or replace as necessary and then, go to "VERIFCATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure. 1. Ignition "OFF" 2. Check that Timing Marks on both sprokets are correctly aligned with align marks. 6/8

Substitute with a known good PCM and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace PCM and go to "VERIFCATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure. 1. Repair or replace as necessary and then, go to "VERIFCATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure. 7/8

8 VERIFCATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected. 1. Monitor and record the Freeze Frame Data for the Diagnostic Trouble Code(DTC) which has been diagnosed. 2. Using a Scantool, Clear the DTCs. 3. Operate the vehicle within conditions noted in the freeze frame data or enable conditions. 4. Monitor that all rediness test have been verified as"complete" 5. Are any DTCs present? YES NO 1. Go to the applicable troubleshoooting procedure. 1. System is performing to specification at this time. 8/8
