3 Program Overview Provide design-oriented education and hands-on training with WBG power electronics In 5-year period, recruit 30 M.S. or Ph.D. U.S. citizens for traineeship. Students will also have opportunities for research experiences and internships at nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory and/or U.S. companies. 3

9 Evaluation and Dissemination All students will do thesis or dissertation that has an experimental component. Information disseminated through traditional publications (including education journals) and also web-based modules. Entrance, exit, and 1-year follow up surveys of students and industry will be performed to assess effectiveness of traineeship (skills learned). 15 ORNL - Rapid Prototyping for Converters and Inverters Designed and built a power module based on a small DBC phase leg, designed a copper base, and designed a 3D printed ABS lead frame & package. Packaging and housing was designed and 3D printed in-house for this all SiC Inverter 15
16 Multifunctional Integrated Power Module Multifunctional: Universal power module that can be used for Ac-dc, dc-ac, dc-dc, ac-ac conversion. DC terminal (+) Integrated cooling Integrated lead frame: Bus bar structure for power routing Interconnects for low power electronics Cylindrical capacitor between the busses Initial proof of concept Flow header DC Bus Capacitor DC terminal (-) Aluminum endcaps serve as main structure serve as electrical busses contain flow paths and injectors for coolant 16
