The Indian River Kontrol Society welcomes: Gary Moore from Melbourne Beach, Florida. Gerry asked for motion to accept the minutes as posted from previous meeting. 2 Scott Bauman, Safety Officer: Someone was kicked out of the flying field one night. One of the club members spoke up. Turns out there was a new guard on duty, Sunday (May 16 th?), who was unaware of the IRKS arrangement with the facility. A member showed up at the gate around 5PM and was informed he could not come in. Maybe this is what it was about. Gerry Armstrong is going to discuss the matter with Mr. Dees. Gerry advised that we may want to keep a copy of the procedure, from the web site, with us if we go in that late. One member asked what time we had to be out. Gerry said he thinks it is 7:30pm but forgets what time it is because he has been out there past 7:30. Gerry stated the times are on the website. Gerry will talk to Mr. Dees about the matter. Dave Platt, Event Coordinator: is out of town. Gerry stated there is no report from him. However, there is a club picnic this week-end (May 23). There is a flyer included in the N/L and one was sent out. It runs between 10-2pm. The flyer says all IRKS members, family members and guests are welcome. Covered dishes are welcome. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs and condiments. Gerry stated to watch the weather. There were varying reports and it could be bad. May have to cancel at the last second so watch the . Hopefully everything goes well. Old Business No motions were made at the last meeting, no noise complaints. One thing that was discussed at the last meeting was a conclusion about AMA numbers on the models, what was reported, and what was stated in the N/L was; AMA says to have AMA numbers on all models except for indoor models. The owner s name and phone number is optional. This is not quite correct! Gerry went on to the AMA site and downloaded the safety rules and read it to the membership: Under the General Section, Item #2, Item F: This is Model Aircraft Pilots will Insure the aircraft is identified with the name and address, or, AMA number of the owner of the owner on the inside or affixed to the outside of the model aircraft. This does not apply to model aircraft flown indoors. So, it can be either-or, Gerry said. Bob Whitney provided much discussion on the details, such as the General direction can be overwritten by different events. Further discussion continued. Seems like the discussion was hung up on the ether, or aspect of the General Rule. New Business Gerry asked if there were any new business that needs to come before the membership. Jim MacLean asked how often the glider area was mowed by the facility. Gerry stated it is cut several times/year. Gerry stated he cut it last Thursday. They mow it several times/year. Gerry asks the waste management to cut it just before any scheduled event, in that area. Bob Whitney stated that the Meeting after the meeting will revert back to the original venue, Off the Traxx. This makes it convenient for members who live north of the Melbourne/Palm Bay area.
3 Show & Tell Scott Bauman Displayed a DJI Phantom quad copter he bought from a friend. Roger Hardin Displayed 2-gliders; a UMX Radian with 3-axis stabilization and a Dream Flight discus sail plane he bought from Grave s Hobbies. Bruce Rodriguez Displayed a PT-17 Micro biplane with AS3X stabilization. Phil Veatch Displayed a Mount Block from a Next Star Trainer. Gerry Armstrong Demonstrated the capabilities of his new night flyer, Fly-Beam from Hobby King. This model really lit up! Has to be seen to be appreciated. Gerry disqualified himself from the Show & Tell but wanted to let everyone to see the capabilities of this model s lighting system. Roger Hardin won the Show & Tell. Gerry announced three vacancies for bringing in concessions for the meeting, during the months of June, July and August. If anyone would like to bring in something, the sign in sheet is on the table. Model of the Month Bob Whitney displayed a control-line model named Perky, designed in It is a One airplane event model. It took second place, doing 100mph. It has a.15 racing engine, Bob made his own prop and spinner for it. Bob wins by default. 50/50 50/50 brought in $19.00 for the club and $20.00 for the winner. Winner of the 50/50 is Ron Ellis. Event Reports Gerry went to the South-East Electric Flight Festival. A week-long event Over 500 registered pilots, flying 24/7 Gary Fisher and his wife showed up Thursday. Gerry recommends everyone to go. Bruce Rodriguez described an incident where a model jet crashed and one of the contestants was hit with jet fuel and caught on fire. There was no fire extinguisher on site. Emergencies took half an hour to get there. Took the person to the hospital and he later came back out. Apparently it wasn t too bad. However, he is suing the pilot and the Florida Jet organization. Bruce announced that our youngest member of the club, Landon Melham, will be leaving 7 June for Miami. Bruce added he will remain a club member. Bob Whitney went to Top Gun and announced another Brodak event 15 June. They will be holding two more then there will be no more Brodak events. Danny Melnik mentioned he went to a Lakeland fly-in/air show up in Lakeland several weeks ago they had a new Breitling jet team, flying the L-39 jet. They were good but the Air Force blew them away. Meeting Adjourned.
