The BLC Horizontal AutoRoll is designed as a completely f a c t o r y assembled unit which requires only minimal field labor to install. A wide variety of system CFM capacities along with easy to handle section widths and heights allow for quick installation. Complete, 100% factory assembly r e d u c e s expensive field labor and cuts s upervision costs. Rugged, m o d u l a r AutoRoll construction that is compatible to HVAC system installation is another objective in the design of the Horizontal Automatic Filter. The main frame is die formed into a channel section that incorporates the media guides as an integral part of the frame. When joined to the end panels, this provides rigid structural support that prevents the twisting or bowing of the unit during shipment or at installation. Horizontal AutoRoll The entire unit is constructed of 16 gauge aluminized steel, offering improved product appearance and better corrosion resistance when compared to galvanized steel. Aluminized steel is used in automotive mufflers, tail pipes, oven liners and incinerators where heat and condensation create the worst case conditions for corrosion to form. Metals that withstand these conditions and conform to ASTM Specification A463 tolerate g r e a t e r temperatures and are more expensive than lesser materials. Manufacturing the Horizontal AutoRoll from 16 gauge aluminized steel emphasizes that BLC is totally committed to quality. Moreover, the main objective in the design of the AUTO-LIN Horizontal AutoRoll is to provide the end user with a product that is totally reliable, economical, practical and easy to use. This unit requires only the replacement of the exhausted media roll when necessary. All drive components are permanently lubricated for life! The rollers as well as bearing surfaces use oil lite bushings and high impact plastics. Components are carefully manufactured to exacting tolerances. And, after completion, the entire unit undergoes a rigorous inspection by BLC before shipping. 2 Horizontal AutoRoll: Applications BLC s Horizontal AutoRoll is utilized in a wide variety of applications. nd-loading applications with access doors, calling for general ventilation filtration or prefiltration of higher efficiency filters, are readily applied to the Horizontal AutoRoll design. Retrofits, air handlers, existing HVAC systems and holding frame banks are typical installations. This unit is commonly applied as a stand-alone filtration system (when incorporated with a fan/blower) to collect manufacturing debris from industrial equipment or work stations. The AUTO-LIN Horizontal AutoRoll is also employed for quick service and easy access to remote or hard-to-reach applications. General ventilation filtration and prefiltration of higher efficiency filters can pose real problems with accessibility, cost and maintenance. BLC s Horizontal Autoroll can save you or your customer valuable time and money. Accessibility can be provided upstream or downstream of the air flow, allowing proximity to either side of the air stream. Costs are reduced in two ways. Replacement media cost is significantly less than that of new, replacement filters. And labor cost associated with loading and unloading filter housings or banks is minimal. As for maintenance, once the media has been installed, manual units require only that the media be advanced by manually turning the media take-up core when the pressure gage determines the media has reached near final resistance. An AutoRoll will automatically advance the media mechanically,based upon a timer or differential pressure system. Minimal labor and no schedule, boxes or bags. The system is virtually worry-free, except for the change-out of expended media rolls and a periodic system maintenance check. Standard Construction Construction of the AUTO-LIN Horizontal AutoRoll provides an assortment of inherent or standard equipment features that can be applied to different air handling applications. Its standard construction incorporates a variety of system preferences that may be employed: pressure or timer control, automatic or manual drive, inside or outside drive locations, and fiberglass or synthetic media. Built-in options, quality and economy, practical applied solutions filtration equipment designed for tomorrow today... FACTORY ASSMBL. BLC s Horizontal AutoRoll is 100% factory assembled and is provided as a single-section unit or multiple-sections unit as specified. All components for immediate system operation are supplied. Only site installation and electrical hook-up are required. MANUAL OR AUTOMATIC. Media advancement for this unit can be either manual or automatic. Manual systems advance the media by turning the media take-up core, by inserting a handcrank into the media take-up core, or by a handcrank which uses a chain and sprocket drive. Automatic systems incorporate an electrical control system which signals the motor to advance the media. CONTROL SYSTMS. Control systems are 120 volt primary and 24 volt secondary and use a solid state timer or differential pressure switch to advance the filter media. (Specify on order) Timer is a fully adjustable 24 hour timer. The differential pressure switch is factory preset at 0.50 inch W.G. All standard systems are rated NMA 1. Other control systems and NMA ratings are available under the options. All systems are provided with: a media run-out switch on each filter section, a media metering switch (for timer units only), a media run-out signal light and a manual push button. LCTRICAL INSTALLATION. The only field wiring required is for 120V. 50/60 HZ. single-phase power supply. The media run-out switch(s) and media metering switch (for timer units only) are prewired and mounted at the factory. The switch(s) are connected in the field on multiple sections or remote boxes only by means of plug-in receptacles that are provided in the control box. RIV/MOTOR. The Horizontal AutoRoll drive can be located either inside or outside of the air stream. The standard drive motor is 1/8 HP 120 V. 50/60 HZ. single-phase and drives up to two (2) sections of the Horizontal Filter. The gearhead motor is provided with thermal overload protection. Inside drive(s) are factory mounted. Outside drive(s) require field mounting due to shipping purposes. This necessitates only four (4) bolts (supplied) for mounting the drive to prelocated holes. MATRIAL OF CONSTRUCTION. All sheet metal components are manufactured of aluminized steel. This offers an improved overall appearance and better corrosion resistance when compared to galvanized steel. All fasteners and hardware have a corrosion-resistant finish. Rollers and bearing surfaces use oil lite bushings and high impact plastics. CLAN ROLL COMPRSSION PANL. A clean roll compression panel is provided on each section of the Automatic Filter. This panel provides tension across the media face to aid in maintaining tension on the used media take-up core, for compressed roll take-up. ACCSS OORS. An access door is provided at each end of the AutoRoll. These doors are fully gasketed with PM gasket at their perimeter and closed by quick acting, over-center draw latches. ROLL MIA SUPPLY. ach AUTO-LIN Horizontal AutoRoll is provided with an initial supply of filter media: either BLC-type GRM media or BLC-type SRM media. Type GRM media is a graded density blanket of continuous strands of fiberglass. The media is progressively denser from the air-entering side to the air-leaving side with a scrim-backing for full support. Fiber diameter begins at 50 microns on the air-entering side to 25 microns on the air-leaving side. The media is charged with an odorless, nontoxic gel adhesive. ach square foot of media is charged with 12 to 16 grams. Type SRM media is a graded density synthetic media utilizing fibers of 40 denier on the air-entering side and progressing to 25 denier on the air-leaving side. The entire media blanket is reinforced by a scrim-netting and charged with an odorless, nontoxic gel adhesive which will not migrate into the air stream. Paper leaders are provided to assist in media installation.

4 Horizontal AutoRoll: Construction Options Options, experience, expertise, and a real working knowledge of HVAC systems and filtration applications. These characteristics define and differentiate BLC s Horizontal AutoRoll from other products commonly available. Options that are practical applied solutions to meet the very specific application requirements of today s industry. Controls, drive, air flow, access and economy options. With such a wide variety of available features, BLC can certainly meet your particular application... CONTROL SYSTMS. Individualized, customized control options and features are available upon request. TIMR/PRSSUR OVRRI SWITCH. This control system may be specified in the event that a temporary overload dust condition would occur that the timer would not react to. The pressure override switch is factory set at 0.50 inch W.G. TIMR/ROLL-SAVR SWITCH. This control system is a combination of a timer and pressure differential switch, preventing the timer from operating when the pressure drop is below a preset condition of the pressure switch. The differential pressure switch is factory set at 0.35 inch W.G. The system will also take the place of a fan interlock, which will prevent the AutoRoll from advancing media while the fan is shut down. PHOTOCLL. This control system can be used in place of previously discussed control systems. The photocell control does not depend on air flow or time to operate. This feature makes it suitable for use with a VAV system and is recommended for these systems. The photocell is factory preset for average dust loading conditions and is fully adjustable. The photocell is pulsed L solid state construction and does not rely upon an incandescent light bulb as some other systems do. LCTRICAL RATINGS. Control systems are available utilizing all of the various NMA ratings (NMA 3 through 13, including the explosion proof groups). Consult factory. HAVY UTY RIV. Where heavy loading conditions are expected, the user may wish to specify this drive system. The heavy duty drive is externally mounted and consists of a 1/3 HP capacitor start 120 V. 50/60 HZ. single-phase drive motor and a separate gear-reducer. The reducer drives the used media take-up core and can drive up to two (2) sections of roll media at a time.units with heavy duty drive require enclosure panels.see this option. HAVY UTY RIV WITH JACKSHAFT. Where extreme conditions with heavy loading occur, the heavy duty drive can be combined with a jackshaft for each media section. ach section is driven by a jackshaft/chain and sprocket drive that can drive up to two (2) sections of roll media at a time. Units with heavy duty jackshaft drive require enclosure panels. See this option. RVRS FLOW. For applications which require change-out of roll media from the clean air side, the orientation of the unit can be changed to reverse the air flow. With this option, additional gridwires and media supports, plus a used roll cover to ensure against dirt migration on the clean air side, are provided. US/CLAN MIA ROLL COVR. A used/clean media roll cover can also be provided where required, to protect the integrity of the roll media. HIGH FFICINCY FILTRS. Some applications require using BLC s Horizontal AutoRoll as an automatic prefilter ahead of high efficiency bag or rigid cell filters. This option incorporates a high efficiency filter system as an integral part of the assembly. Consult factory for further details. TYP 304 or 316 STAINLSS STL. For an alternate material of construction, all sheet metal components can be manufactured of type 304 or 316 Stainless Steel. NCLOSUR PANLS. nclosure panels fully enclose the ARH into a cabinet-style enclosure. Mounting flanges are provided for duct connections. Standard flange arrangement is a 2 inch turned-in perimeter flange, or flanges can be adapted to match other ductwork sizes or air-handling equipment. Unit depth is 26 inches with enclosure panels. (Note: Heavy duty drive units require enclosure panels.) One Year All Parts Warranty BLC Industries, Inc. guarantees the AUTO-LIN Horizontal AutoRoll machine to be free from defects in materials of construction or workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of shipment, when installed in accordance with equipment instructions. Within that time, any defective part will be replaced on a NO CHARG basis. Provided the defective part is returned to the factory (freight prepaid by the customer). Replacement parts are F.O.B. Louisville, Kentucky. All returned parts must be accompanied by a Return of Goods Authorization. Please notify BLC Industries, Inc. of intent to return goods. 6 MCHANICAL SPCIFICATIONS - AUTO-LIN HORIZONTAL AUTOROLL STANAR UNIT CONSTRUCTION Material of Construction: The Horizontal AutoRoll unit shall be provided fully assembled and meet sizes and capacities shown on plans and listed in the equipment schedule. All sheet metal components shall be constructed of aluminized steel and all fasteners and hardware shall be provided with a corrosion resistant finish. All roller and bearing surfaces shall use oil lite bushings and high impact plastics. Media Advancement: Filter media for the Horizontal AutoRoll unit shall be advanced either manually or automatically (mechanically); to be determined per specifications and customer requirements. Control System for Automatic Units: The AutoRoll s control system shall be rated NMA 1. Power shall be 120 volt, supplied with a 24 volt stepdown transformer. Controls shall be either solid state timer or differential pressure to be determined per specifications and customer requirements. The timer shall be a fully adjustable 24 hour timer. The differential pressure switch shall be factory set at 0.50" W.G. All systems shall be provided with a media run-out switch on each section, a media metering switch (timer control units only), a media run-out signal light and a manual push button for media advancement. The drive motor shall be actuated by either the timer or pressure switch which will cause the media to be advanced in small increments only when the timer actuates or dust accumulation reaches the set point of the differential pressure switch. lectrical Installation: The Horizontal AutoRoll unit shall require only field connection of a 120 Volt 50/60HZ single-phase power supply for operation purposes. The media run-out switch(s) and media metering switch (timer control unit only) shall be prewired and factory mounted. Switch(s) shall be provided with connectors for plug-in receptacles located on the control box. rive/motor: The drive motor shall be 1/8 HP, 120V 50/60 HZ single-phase gearhead type with thermal overload protection. The AutoRoll drive assembly can be either located inside or outside the air stream per customer specifications. Inside drive assemblies shall be factory mounted. Outside drive assemblies shall be field mounted. Clean Roll Compression Panel: A clean media roll compression panel and system design shall provide tension across the media face to ensure a compressed take-up roll of used media. Access oors: The Horizontal AutoRoll shall be provided with an access door at each end of the unit. Access doors shall be fully gasketed with PM gasket at their perimeter and closed by use of quick action over-center draw latches. Roll Media Supply: An initial supply of roll media shall be provided for the roll filter. The roll media shall be either BLC type GRM Fiberglass or BLC type SRM Synthetic Media. For other types of roll media that can be provided by BLC, consult factory. UNIT OPTIONS Specify Timer/Pressure Override Control for conditions where a temporary overload dust condition could occur. This allows the pressure override switch (factory set at 0.50" W.G.) to operate the AutoRoll under conditions the timer would not react to. Specify Timer/Roll-Saver Switch Control for a combination of a timer and differential pressure switch preventing the timer from operating when the pressure drop is below a preset condition of the pressure switch. The differential pressure switch shall be factory set at 0.35" W.G. The photocell shall be pulsed led solid state construction and not rely upon an incandescent light bulb. Consult factory for further details. Specify Heavy uty rive where heavy dust loading conditions are expected. The reducer shall directly drive the media take-up core and drive up to two (2) sections of roll media at a time.
