1 Page: 1 of 24 TITLE: FUEL SYSTEM WIRING, INSTALLATION OF TRANSIENT SUPPRESSION UNITS (TSU S) 1.0 SUMMARY 1.1. Reason Provide an Alternate Means of Compliance (AMOC) to Airworthiness Directive (AD) The AD mandates that operators of B737 aircraft perform wire separation modifications to fuel system wiring. The AMOC is achieved by installation of Smiths Industries Transient Suppression Units (TSU s) Description The Transient Suppression Unit is inserted in the Fuel Quantity Indication System (FQIS) wiring between the in-tank components (capacitance probes and the compensators) and the Fuel Quantity Indicators located in the cockpit. The TSU s will be installed near the bulkhead where the FQIS wiring enters the tanks and are intended to prevent any electrical signals, either current or voltage, that is capable of igniting fuel vapor, from entering the fuel tanks. The TSU is intended to be an (AMOC) to the wiring separation requirements mandated by AD EFFECTIVITY 2.1. All B through 500 series aircraft equipped with Smiths Industries FQIS. 3.0 COMPLIANCE 3.1.
