TSA IMPLEMENTATION Slovak Republic Present state of TSA implementation Slovak statistical Office (SOSR) is responsible for TSA implementation in the SR. The particular tables of TSA have been compiled step by step in cooperation with INFOSTAT on experimental base within the Project task. The task was concentrated on the core of TSA tables, i.e. on tables 1-7.

Present state of TSA implementation In this moment the following tables were compiled: On the demand side: Tables 1-4 for years On the supply side: Tables 5,6 for years 2005 and 2007 For employment: Table 7 for years Present state of TSA implementation The old manuals of UNWTO and Eurostat represented the methodological basis for TSA tables compilations. All steps of compilation were described in methodological documents, which are disposible only in Slovak language. During the task the close cooperation with other institutions was kept (with National Bank of Slovakia, Ministry of economy). Through the organisation of common meetings and discussions the experience with the TSA implementation were shared.

Present state of TSA implementation The 5 year Project of INFOSTAT has been finished in this year. During the last year the person of SOSR was charged and learnt with all problems, estimations, steps of TSA tables compilation. The cooperation with INFOSTAT will be continued also in the future, but will be oriented mainly on the compilation of tables 5 and 6. 8 Improvement planed of TSA In near future we want: To implement new revised methodology of TSA, mainly new classifications of tourism products and tourism industries in all TSA tables (now we have applied these classifications only partly) To define characteristic goods and services, which are specific for tourism in the Slovak Republic. For this we want to prepare wider discussions with other institutions. Improvement planed of TSA Based on the chosen characteristic goods specific for Slovak tourism we have to defined corresponding industries, mainly retail trade of these products, but also industries, which produced specific services for visitors. We try to have agreement with System of National Accounts department to prepare matrix of production and intermediate consumption on more detail level needed for TSA compilation. We want to improve table 7 (employment in tourism industries) including other indicators (as hours worked) and analyse labour productivity.

Improvement planed of TSA The initial basis for compilation of tables 5 and 6 are Supply and Use Tables (SUT), prepared by SNA department. Because the compilation of SUT has 2-3 year time-lag, we decided to use this strategy in compilation of TSA tables: tables 5 and 6 compile only for year, in which the SUT is available for current year (in which SUT is not available) extrapolate structure of table 5 from the benchmark year extrapolated tables revise when the SUT are finished. Extrapolation of Table 5 and 6 We hade verified this approach and tables 5 and 6 for year 2007 were compiled by extrapolation of the year We also estimate direct tourism value added and direct tourism GDP for year 2007.

Extrapolation of Table 5 and 6 Shortly, the approach can be described by these steps: 1) we used data on the production and intermediation consumption classified by industries from National Accounts (only 2-digit level of NACE) 2) we used more detail data on production from basic statistics (4-5 level of NACE classification) to estimate production of tourism industries according to the TSA classification 3) we used the product structure of table 5 from the year 2005 and production of tourism industries and other industries for year ) for compilation of table 6 we used other data of NA, as imports, taxes and subsidies on products for year ) we calculate the tourism share for each tourism consumption products and estimate value added of tourism (applying the tourism share in each column of domestic supply). 11 Improvement of System of Tourism Statistics System of tourism statistics in Slovak Republic as was presented by the colleagues should be improved, mainly in the sphere of surveys: In inbound tourism we want to apply new survey with bigger sample size and extended questions In domestic and outbound tourism we will try to extend sample size and to introduced new questions on outbound tourism as well as on same-day visitors. Publishing of TSA data SOSR has started to inform public about the experimental results of TSA compilation (meetings with region offices) SOSR plane to publish basic information about TSA implementation in SR on the website (2010) SOSR plane to publish the TSA results regularly on the website from 2011.
