2 Choose the right bulb! This light bulb guide includes information and advice for choosing the correct light source for your Northern lamp. It is based on functional and aesthetic properties of the bulb in accordance to the lamp design such as shape, size and light colour temperature as well as more technical aspects regarding light quality and power, life-time and accessability. For more information please contact us at Some words about light Watt (W) Watt is the measuring unit of energy consumption, but it does not tell how much light the bulb produces. A 100W regular incandescent bulb gives more or less the same amount of light as a 13W bulb, but the power consumption is different. Lumen (lm) Lumen is the measuring unit of the total amount of light given from the light bulb in all directions. It does not imply anything about energy consumption. Candela (cd) Candela is the measuring unit of the amount of light given from the light bulb in a specific direction. Only spot bulbs with reflectors or bulbs use this unit. Kelvin (K) The light colour is measured in Kelvin. A halogen bulb usually has a colour temperature of 2700 Kelvin (warm colour). See chart below for a graphic overview.
