2 he history of FARMA History about how it all started Leif Fors, founder and moreover CEO of Fors Mekaniska Werkstad (Fors MW) is a true entrepreneur. As so often with entrepreneurs it is not the goal in itself which is the attraction, but rather the journey there. he company has been run within a variety of industries. Basically a builder with vast experience of the building industry, but a dog handler on large estates in the hunting season and a quarrying plant in Portugal have also belonged to the activities, to name but a few. At the end of the 80s Leif could never have imagined that a machine business would be the start of a journey that would lead to the creation of one of Europe s largest production plants for forestry and agricultural machinery in Estonia. Leif recounts, towards the end of the 80s I took a ferry with the destination of Estonia. he main reason for the journey was curiosity, but also a large general interest however the misery I experienced just 400 kilometres from the wedish coast line affected me deeply. I couldn t just close my eyes and travel home. I was, as the entrepreneur I am, forced to act. I chose to stay and have never really truly returned since. I saw misery, but also possibilities. he possibility for myself to create a future, but also a possibility to become involved and create a future for others. Fors MW was established in 1992 and is today the oldest wedish company in Estonia. Leif continues, the company started by manufacturing everything from splitting machine to candlesticks and business was so-so. My interest in forestry lead to the thought of manufacturing a lumber trailer. All said and done and the first FARMA trailer was drawn up on the factory floor. Initially the quality was nothing to shout about but the price was pioneering. For the first time there was a trailer available for the small forest owner and the sales success was underway. hen FARMA had a single model, today nearly twenty years later there are 8 basic models that can be varied virtually endlessly. oday FARMA is one of Europe s most sold lumber trailers. his is not principally due to a unique feature, but the fact that we have been adept in keeping down the price to the end user and over the years we have offered high quality to a low price. FARMA Leif Fors, the man behind FARMA. Leif continues, I have always liked the forest and with the forest comes an interest for the soil. It was therefore exciting for some fifteen years ago to start the creation of one s own forest and farm in Estonia. oday the farm consists of 3350 acres in one parcel of which 2220 acres are forest. he choice of lumber trailer was obvious and through the years there has been a frantic testing of Fors MW products on the farm. here were many times when I came to the factory on a Monday morning after a hard weekend s work on the farm and angered committed everyone in e.g. an incorrect cylinder placement, but we learnt a great deal on the way. We learnt the practical use of our products. oday Fors MW is a prosperous company with hundreds of employees with subsidiaries in weden and China with three market leading brands FARMA, BIGAB and NIAB. Fors MW has experienced everything from the Estonian bank collapse in 1997 which nearly made us bankrupt to that February night in 2006 when the fire alarm connected to the mobile started to ring at five in morning. I drove at lightning speed to the factory only to see my life s work on fire. he day after the fire it was apparent that the damage to the factory was extensive. hree years later we can see our momentum slowed in that year. Focus that should have been on product development was directed to reconstruction. his is one of the reasons why I am proud of the new products that are currently on the way and which several are presented in this brochure. However, this is only a small selection of what is to come and as a forest farmer I can promise you something special. Our history has made us respectful of the future. We know that everything can happen, we know you are never better than your last development or you last customer contact. We are a company that believes in openness in preference to closed doors. 3 Presentation Presentation Lumber trailer/crane presentation FARMA offers one of the market s widest model programmes. he programme consists of three main parts: lumber trailers, cranes and accessories. he FARMA s range of trailers goes from the smallest lumber trailer of 6 tons up to our professional 14 ton trailer. FARMA s crane range today consists of 11 different models. he new models C 5.3; C 6.3 and C 8.5 have been designed under the banner Farma Generation 2 and are equipped with a link arm system for the best close quarter characteristics. Our designation C stands for Crane/railer. In the model name C 6.310, the C stands for crane, 6.3 for the length of the crane s reach, for the trailer, 10 for tonnage it is designed to handle. I m thinking of buying a FARMA and wonder which is the most sold lumber trailer and which controller can I choose? Our most sold model is the C 6.09 yet since the introduction of the C 6.39 with link system it has taken over the leaders jersey. When our customers purchase cranes with an extension (e.g. 6.0/6.3) most people choose our electrical on/off controller primarily due to its weight, which makes it easy to lift and use. Accessories FARMA s lumber trailer and crane range includes a rich collection of standard equipment. In spite of this there are always specific customer needs. FARMA offers a wide accessory programme. On pages we present numerous accessories. On page 14 you will find our model, Combine your equipment, which offers a number of different combination possibilities between lumber trailer and crane from the FARMA range. he lumber trailer and crane matrix shows informatively what is included in the standard design of the lumber trailers and cranes as well as which possible options are available for the different alternatives. I find it difficult to handle my grapple. What do you propose? Do you have a problem in stabilizing the grapple? We propose the FARMA grapple damper, which is mounted between the grapple and rotator and in doing so stabilizes the claw. Can a C 5.1 m crane be mounted on a 6 ton lumber trailer? No, it is not possible on account of the extra stress load that the crane produces on the lumber trailer. 4 FARMA C 3.86/C 4.67 D FARMA C m crane, 6 ton trailer. A lumber trailer designed for small tractors and is equipped with hydraulic support legs. he loader has a 3.8 m reach and a lifting capacity of 300 kg fully extended excluding the grapple and rotator. his trailer is the ideal solution for those who mainly need to haul timber. he trailer is not equipped with frame steering nor prepared for winch mounting. he lumber trailer is extra equipped with extension bank posts. FARMA C 4.67 D 4.6 m crane, 7 ton trailer. A lighter lumber trailer designed for those collecting windfall and handling timber. he lumber trailer is equipped with frame steering and hydraulic support legs. he loader has a 4.6 m reach where it can lift 480 kg fully extended excluding the grapple and rotator. A winch can be mounted on the loader. he crane is available in two versions, single () or double (D) cylinder pistons on the turntable housing. 5 FARMA C 5.18 FARMA C m crane, 8 ton trailer. A lumber trailer designed for the active forest owner who manages his own forest. he lumber trailer is equipped with frame steering and hydraulic support legs. he loader has a 5.1 m reach, increasing to 5.6 m with the frame steering fully extended where it can lift 450 kg excluding the grapple and rotator. A winch can be mounted on the loader. A bestseller throughout the years that is ideal for many users. he crane can be combined with other trailer models, see page 14. 6 FARMA C 5.39 FARMA C5.39 Let us proudly present one of our new cranes in the FARMA Generation 2 programme, C 5.3. he crane is designed with a link system between the lift boom/outer boom to give the crane s movement the most optimal geometry at the same time as the lifting capacity is increased. Fully extended the loader can lift 570 kg excluding the grapple and rotator. he selection of material in the crane is light, flexible and strong. Our 9-ton trailer is a uniquely adaptable trailer due to the design of the frame steering where the articulated joint is behind the railing. his design gives a stable and reliable trailer that is less liable to overturn. he crane is mounted on a three-point linkage, intended for tractor mounting, which gives a broader application area. his 9 ton lumber trailer is our most sold trailer model. he crane can be combined with other trailer models, see page 14. 7 FARMA C FARMA C Our 10 ton trailer is based on the same design as our successful 9 ton trailer with the best handling thanks to the placement of the frame steering behind the railing. Our 10 ton trailer unlike the 9 ton trailer is equipped with 500wheels, a more powerful bogie and wider railing and bank posts. he illustrated trailer is equipped with our new crane C 6.3 with an extension of 1.1 metres and a link system between the lift boom/outer boom for the best geometry of the crane s movement. he telescopic cylinder is positioned internally, fully protected against impact and scratches to the piston rod. Fully extended the loader can lift 445 kg excluding the grapple and rotator. A trailer that can be specially equipped for just your needs. he crane can easily be removed from the trailer for conversion in the tractor s three-point attachment. he crane can be combined with other trailer models, see page 14. 8 FARMA C FARMA C m crane, 12 ton trailer. Lumber trailer designed for rugged conditions. Exceptionally good accessibility primarily through the placement of the frame steering s articulated joint behind the railing, positioning the bogie correctly in relation to the tractor and with the utilization of the frame steering the trailer handles well in all situations. he loader is designed for professional use and is mounted on a strong crane base with extendable support legs. he reach is 6.5 metres including extension increasing to 7.2 metres with the frame steering fully extended where it can lift 625 kg excluding the grapple and rotator. 9 FARMA C WD CAN BE ORDERED WIH C C 8.5 will be available in FARMA C WD Our reel driven and well equipped trailer is a versatile trailer with a low centre of gravity for the best accessibility. As standard the trailer is equipped with disc brakes on two wheels and a unique hydraulic displacement of the bogie. Our reel driven trailer has primarily been sold together with C 6.5, which is a professional crane with a reach including extension of 6.5 metres, increasing 7.2 metres with the frame steering fully extended where it can lift 625 kg excluding the grapple and rotator. In 2010 this trailer will also be possible to order together with our new Generation 2 crane, C 8.5 which has a link system to optimise the crane s movement and its lifting capacity. C 8.5 is equipped with a double telescopic extension covering a length of 3 m. For crane dimensions, see page 10. he hydraulic unit is standard equipment with electrical onoff for the grapple, extension, support legs and drive. his gives a lightweight (10.5 kg) hydraulic unit that contributes to the trailer s versatility. We can offer different systems to control the crane and trailer. Among others we can offer proportional controllers with or without radio control and hydraulic servo valves with electrical on/off, both controlled via a joystick. he frame steering on this powered lumber trailer has its articulated joint behind the railing, which results in optimal handling characteristics and a versatile tractortrailer combination. he trailer can be equipped with its own hydraulic system. his results in total independence from the capacity of the tractor s hydraulic system. he hydraulic system consists of a pump for the power take-off as well as a tank and filter. We can offer different pump options with piston or gear pumps. he powered trailer is equipped with a hydraulically offset bogie that is movable from the tractor. here is a hydraulic piston on each side of the central tube, which can displace the bogie by 70 cm. his results in better balance with different timber lengths and which also assists, among others, in difficult conditions and when stuck in the ground. Crane equipment Crane lighting Damper slewing/lifting Winch FARMA crane lighting can be purchased as an option for those customers who require this. he crane lighting consists of two work lights mounted on each side of the boom. he lighting can be retrofitted, but it is economically beneficial to order these directly when purchasing the crane. Do you want to drive smoother and with that more comfortable? Do you want to protect the machine s build and reduce maintenance? You should then consider the damper designed for slewing, lifting and lowering. he design of the damper receives oil via the accumulator and dampens rapid slewing and boom movements. FARMA offers a radio controlled winch in its range. Radio control makes the work easier on the body, but above all it makes it safer by eliminating both dangerous and heavy operations. he winch has a 6 mm wire with a length of 35 metres as standard. he radio controlled winch can be mounted on all models from 7 tons and up. 3-point linkage Grapple damper Floating position If you wish to mount the crane on the tractor s three point linkage (hydraulic arms) a so-called three point attachment is required to secure the crane. he attachment is available in different models depending on the size of the crane. Note! If you need floating position functions on the crane when mounted on the tractor these are not included in the crane s standard equipment but must be ordered as an option. Also see the floating position functions on this page. FARMA grapple damper facilitates work with the grapple as it stabilizes the claw. he grapple damper is mounted between the grapple and rotator. he grapple damper has increased in popularity as many believe it assists working with the grapple loader. Can be ordered as an accessory. When a crane is used mounted on the tractor the floating position functions must be on the crane if the grapple is placed on a subsequent trailer. his is not included as standard, but must be ordered as an option. he floating position is mounted inside the valve assembly (see the arrows for placement) and can not be seen from the outside. Only two hydraulic controllers are stocked with floating position function. his is the models 2+3-levers (7 functions) and 2+4-levers (8 functions). 11 Hydraulics Multi-lever controllers 2+3-lever/ 2+4-lever Electrical on/off control FARMA offers numerous multi-lever options for our cranes. he valve assemblies appear similar but the number of levers is adapted to the number of functions required by the crane. he valve assembly for 5, 6 and 7 levers is a fully cast block with a low weight while the 8 lever valve assembly is assembled of sections and is considerably heavier. In instances where support leg functionality is not required 5 functions can be used if the crane is not equipped with extension functionality, if the crane features extension functionality then 6 functions are required. If the crane has support legs 7 functions are needed without the extension function and 8 if the crane has extension functionality. he picture shows the valve assembly, 7 levers. he valve assemblies appear similar at first glance, but differs significantly in weight as both controllers are manufactured in different ways. 2+3levers is fully cast and with that significantly lighter than the 2+4-lever model which is assembled of different components. hey differ by more than 10 kg in weight. On the 2+3-lever model the support legs and grapple are controlled by the three centre levers. he 2+4 lever model also features handling of the extension and with that there are 4 levers in the middle. Illustrated is the 2+4 lever model. FARMA s most popular controller primarily due to its low weight and price is our electrical on/off controller. he electrical on/off controller is available with 3, 4 or more electrical functions depending on your needs. he electrical on/off controller consists of two main parts. he part of the controller that controls the electrical functions is mounted in a protective box on the crane. he other part is a 4-function controller with buttons which is used from the driver s cab. he functions controlled by the electrical on/ off controller are the support legs and grapple and in appropriate cases also the extension. Hydraulic servo Electrical proportional steering with joystick Electrical proportional steering with radio control he FARMA range also features hydraulic servo (so-called low pressure servo) which is controlled through the same type of joystick as with electrical proportional control. he difference between the systems, which in both cases are mounted on the crane, is that electrically controlled proportional systems are managed via electrical cables while control on hydraulic servo systems is managed through a low pressure system via hoses. his type of solution requires more assembly work in the cab than with the use of electrically controlled proportional valves. ired of hydraulic hoses that need to be transferred to the tractor? Perhaps electrical proportional control valves are something for you? Contact between the trailer and tractor is then made via an electrical cable and only one hydraulic hose is needed for the pressure and return from the tractor. he crane is controlled with two joysticks. he joysticks are installed inside the cab and control the trailer mounted valves electrically. As the valves are proportionally controlled, control is performed with sensitivity on the buttons unlike electrically on-off controlled valves. ired of hydraulic hoses that need to be transferred to the tractor? Perhaps an electrical proportional controller with radio control is something for you? Contact between the trailer and tractor is then made via radio and only one hydraulic hose is needed for the pressure and return from the tractor. No other contact is needed between the controller and the trailer. he controller is available with control via paddles or joysticks. Pictured is radio control with joysticks. Hydraulic controller - how do you choose? FARMA offers numerous options with the choice of hydraulic controller. In instances where the alternatives are too many and the choice difficult we would like to offer some simple advice. Many want a light controller that is possible to lift in and out of the tractor. If this is your preference we offer an inexpensive controller for up to 7 functions, which is a fully cast and with that a light alternative. Does the crane you are interested in have an extension? his requires 8 functions and a valve assembly of the more traditional type and with that will be significantly heavier. For cranes with an extension but also with 7 function control, our Electrical on/ off controller is the most common option. he additional price in most cases is worth it. Half the controller is mounted under a protective cover on the crane and you take the other half with the electrical on/off buttons into the cab with you. Do you work in the forest and need work friendly solutions? he more advanced solutions with so-called electrical proportional control can perhaps be the answer for you. In this case the complete controller is mounted on the crane. Only the electrical cables are taken into the tractor where you use two joysticks to control the crane. Control is proportional, i.e. the buttons are sensitive when you control the crane. he solution is also available in a radio controlled design with a radio section available with paddles or joysticks, which is the most common. 12 Crane accessories Grapple Winch Grapple bucket FARMA s range includes five different grapple models. he grapple models 0.12 and 0.20 belong to the tried and tested FARMA range and the models 0.16, 0.19 and 0.22 belong to our new grapple range. he new grapples are manufactured of the steel Weldox 700, which is a high strength steel. In the matrix on page 14 you can see which grapple is fitted as standard on the different cranes and which sizes are available as an option. For measurements and technical description please refer to our website. For many years FARMA has chosen to only have a radio controlled winch in its range. his is because the risk of accidents increases greatly with a mechanically controlled winch. Radio control makes the work easier on the body, but above all it makes it safer by eliminating both dangerous and heavy operations. he winch has a 6 mm wire with a length of 35 metres as standard. he drawing force or lifting force to be correct differs substantially depending on whether it s stated with an empty winch drum or a full. Check this when comparing with other models. he winch can be controlled manually in the event of a radio failure. One of the new additions in this brochure are our grapple buckets that have been developed in two sizes 160 litres and 200 litres, depending on the different application areas and working method. he existing grapple on the crane is replaced with the grapple bucket. Clearing ditches as well as the loading/unloading of different materials such as soil/gravel and the like are just a few of the application areas where the grapple bucket is ideal. Visit our website for further information, Brush grapple Insert buckets Rotator FARMA has developed two brush grapples to facilitate operations with branches as the branches and tops do not fasten as easily in the grapple. FARMA has developed two brush grapple models, 0.16 and he existing grapple on the crane is replaced with the bush grapple. For information about which brush grapple is suitable for each grapple loader and the different operations please contact your dealer. Insert buckets are an easy and cost efficient way to supplement the grapple for loading grit, ditch clearing, etc. he insert buckets are fitted to the existing FARMA grapple. Our grapple series under the name Generation 2 and then models 0.16 and 0.19 must be used in order for the insert buckets to fit. FARMA offers two different sizes of rotators (3 and 4 ton) on its cranes depending on the size of crane and grapple. ee the matrix on page 14 for information about which rotator fits which crane. FARMA Generation 2 he first stage of FARMA Generation 2 was initially shown in the summer of Generation 2 involves an upgrade to products and design as well as a further development of the brand within new lines of business. In this brochure we present a number of new products all marked with G2 (Generation 2), so that you the customer can quickly and easily find our new models and upgrades. 12

13 Lumber trailer accessories Disc brakes Drum brakes PO pump FARMA trailers can be equipped as an option with disc brakes on all models. C 14 4WD has disc brakes on two wheels as standard. Disc brakes are factory ordered and can be fitted on either two or four wheels. Retrofitting is possible on your used trailer. Contact your dealer. All FARMA trailers can be fitted with drum brakes if required. Drum brakes can be factory ordered for all trailers and are either mounted on two or four wheels. Drum brakes are a legal requirement on some markets. Drum brakes require regular and meticulous cleaning. FARMA s trailer range can be factory ordered with its own hydraulic system mounted on the trailer. he set includes a pump for mounting on the power take-off, tank, filter and hoses. he PO pump is supplied fully fitted. he PO pump is used when the tractor s hydraulic capacity does not meet the trailer and crane s needs. Lighting he removable lighting bar can be factory ordered as an accessory if necessary. Wiring with connectors are then routed through the trailer and are then connected to the lighting bar. Permanently mounted lighting can be ordered for the WD ton trailer. Branch and top posts We offer branch and top posts as an accessory. he posts are sold individually and broaden the trailer s load width to prove more space for branches and tops as the weight per unit volume of these means a significantly greater volume is possible with each load than when handling timber and pulpwood. tate the trailer size when ordering. Extension post Extension bank posts are sold in pairs. hese give an increase in the load volume. When handling an assortment with a lower weight per unit volume, e.g. pulpwood the extension bank posts make greater volumes possible with each load. tate the trailer size when ordering.
