7 Methods Application All studies were sprayed either with a 7.5 foot (effective width) handheld sprayer using AIXR flat fan spray tips spaced at 15 inches (held 18 inches above target) to deliver 15 GPA at 30 psi (CO 2 propellant) or a tractor or RTV-mounted compressed air 10 or 15-foot boom using AI11002 tips at 20 GPA and 40 psi. Rating System The visual weed control and crop injury ratings within this report are based on a 0 to 100 scale. For weed control ratings 0 = no kill and 100 = complete kill, for crop injury 0 = no injury and 100 = total crop kill. Weed species are reported with a five-letter Bayer code with the explanation for each code given in the abbreviation section. Herbicides are referred to by the trade name, common name, or experimental number. Yield Crop yields, when available, were taken either by hand-harvesting or using a small-plot combine. The samples were taken from the middle of each plot. Moisture content was measured with an electronic moisture meter or through oven-dried sub-samples. All grain yields are reported in bushels per acre (bu/ac) or pounds per acre (lb/ac) at the standard moisture for the crop. Back vi

18 (RSCNQS114) The Pennsylvania State University Bicyclopyrone: Acuron Herbicide Compared to Competitive Standards in Reduced Till Corn Trial ID: RSCNQS114 Protocol ID: corn114 Location: Rosck Springs Investigator: Dr. William S. Curran Trial Summary This study examined Acuron herbicide, a new product from Syngenta that contains the new HPPD inhibitor bicycylopyrone plus the same components found in Lumax or Lexar. This study was conducted in a reduced tillage field. The primary weeds were giant foxtail, common lambsquarters, common ragweed, velvetleaf and some redroot pigweed. Corn was planted on May 9 and PRE s were applied on May 12. Rainfall was good for herbicide activation and all PRE s worked well. A minor amount of corn injury was noted early with some treatments, but it quickly disappeared. Control of all weeds was at least 90% and corn yields were good. 26 (RSCNQS214) The Pennsylvania State University HPPD Herbicides: Corvus, Balance Flexx, Capreno, and Impact Programs in Reduced Till Corn Trial ID: RSCNQS214 Protocol ID: corn314 Location: Rock Springs Investigator: Dr. William S. Curran Trial Summary This study examined some HPPD herbicides including Corvus, Balance Flexx, Capreno, Laudis, and Impact. This study was conducted in a reduced tillage field. The primary weeds were giant foxtail, common lambsquarters, common ragweed, velvetleaf and some redroot pigweed. Corn was planted on May 9 and PRE s were applied on May 12 and POST on June 13. POST treatments included mixtures with Roundup or Liberty. Rainfall was good for herbicide activation and all PRE s worked well. Very minor injury to corn was noted with some treatments and control of all weeds was at least 90% and corn yields were good. 40 (RSCNQS314) The Pennsylvania State University BASF Overlapping Residual Programs in Reduced Till Corn Trial ID: RSCNQS314 Protocol ID: corn714 Location: Rock Springs Investigator: Dr. William S. Curran Trial Summary This trial examined some BASF herbicides including Zidua, Sharpen, and Verdict and compared them to some industry standards. The primary weeds were giant foxtail, common lambsquarters, common ragweed, velvetleaf and some redroot pigweed. Corn was planted on May 9 and PRE s were applied on May 13 and POST on June 13. A very minor amount of injury was noted early in the season but it did not persist. Rainfall was good for herbicide activation and all PRE s worked well and control of all weeds was at least 90% and corn yields were good.
