20 SAFETY IS THE HIGHEST PRIORITY. At Hyundai, we are driven by our aim to build the safest cars on the road today. To achieve this, we have made substantial investments in developing some of the most advanced safety technologies as well as cutting-edge engineering and construction techniques. The i40 range incorporates such a high level of safety features that it has achieved the highest occupant safety rating for a vehicle in Australia 5-Star ANCAP. Hot stamping method Premium ultra-high tensile strength steel is used in key body areas to maximise strength. But the steel is so hard it must first be pre-heated to 900 ºC before stamping. This Hyundai innovation offers more protection to the driver and passengers in the event of a collision. Ultra-high tensile strength steel No ordinary, run-of-the-mill steel, the ultra-high tensile strength steel is a high performance special steel alloy applied to safety-critical areas of the body shell where additional strength reinforcement is required. The benefit is superior crashworthiness. Brake Assist System BAS measures the speed with which the brake pedal is depressed. When panic braking is detected, the Brake Assist System automatically develops maximum brake boost in order to mitigate a drivers tendency to brake without enough force.

21 A COCOON OF 9 AIRBAGS To help safeguard you and your passengers during a collision, the i40 range chassis has been enhanced by the use of premium ultra-high tensile strength steel to reinforce safety critical areas of the body shell. B C E D F A. 9-Airbags Protection With nine airbags, including each driver and passenger airbags, two side curtain airbags and four thorax airbags at the outboard seating positions plus a new airbag offering driver knee protection, i40 takes every possible precaution to reduce the risk of serious injury. B. Knee Airbag Installed just below the steering column, this new airbag is designed to reduce the risk of serious injuries to the driver s legs and knees in the event of a frontal collision. C. Hill-Start Assist Control This technology brings peace of mind and ends all anxieties about the vehicle rolling backwards when the foot is taken off the brake after a stop on a steep hill. D. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) Electronic stability control (ESC) improves the safety of a vehicle s stability by detecting and minimising skids. When ESC detects loss of steering control, it automatically applies the brakes to help steer the vehicle where the driver intends to go. Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system helps maintain control of the vehicle by applying countersteering assistance, guiding you to the correct steering position. E. Rear View Camera To provide greater safety when reversing, an image of the area behind the vehicle shows on the 7" LCD satellite navigation screen (Elite & Premium only). F. Park-Assist System Sensors in the front and rear bumpers help you park with greater ease and safety, by providing an audible alert when you are getting too close to objects around the vehicle.

22 SOPHISTICATED TOUCHES AND TECHNOLOGY-RICH FEATURES. LED Daytime Running Lights The distinctive LED Daytime Running Lights serve as a highly visible safety feature. HID Dusk Sensing Headlamp Automatic light control switches on the headlights at dusk or when encountering low light areas such as tunnels and car parks. High Intensity Discharge (Xenon) headlamps provide brighter and clearer illumination. (Premium only) Fog Lamps Front fog lamps feature clear lenses and an extra low mounting point for maximum penetration in foggy driving conditions. (Elite and Premium) LED-Type Rear Combination Lamps Large, wraparound rear combination lamps are sculpted and use an LED array for maximum brightness, saving energy and enhancing safety. By lighting up a split second faster than conventional lamps, they alert the following driver sooner.

23 Smart Park Assist # Smart Park Assist uses sensors on either side of the vehicle to search for parallel parking spaces that are the correct size. Once a location is found, the i40 can take complete control of the steering while the driver controls the vehicle speed, guiding the i40 into the selected space. i40 Tourer Premium in Blue Spirit. Lane departure warning with lane keeping assist system Activated above 60km/hr, LDWS uses a camera to scan the road ahead and will alert the driver if it senses the vehicle is unintentionally veering from its current lane. If also combined with LKAS, the system will also assist by applying steering input to help keep the vehicle between the lane markings. It s designed to prevent those moments when a lapse of concentration can cause the vehicle to stray outside the lane. Rain Sensing Wipers The rain sensing wipers give you one less thing to worry about by automatically activating the wipers when moisture is detected on the windscreen. (Elite and Premium) Push Button Start and Smart Key The end of fumbling for misplaced keys. If the key is with you, the doors unlock and the engine starts at the push of a button and depress of the brake pedal. (Elite and Premium) Bluetooth Hands-Free Capability * i40 features Bluetooth with steering wheel mounted controls, built-in microphone, audio streaming capability and telephone hands free. Speed Limiters & Cruise Control Switch The Speed Limiter function is within the cruise control system. The navigation system incorporates live SUNA * traffic updates and a comprehensive Point of Interest (POI) database. Also, due to the changing state of the road network in Australia, if you service your i40 with a Hyundai dealer you will be entitled to 3 years NAVTEQ Mapcare ^updates for the navigation system to ensure there aren t any surprises around the next corner Standard Headlight Operation Static Bending Light Static+ Dynamic Bending Light Heated Seats Front seats feature three-stage heated seat cushions and heated backrests.
