3 -- -- _n - -_n n- - m - - U n _m INSTALLATIONINSTRUCTIONS This Power Feed Unit is designed for the JMD Model 18 milling-drilling machine. 1. Remove left hand feed handle. Remove left and right table stops. Slide both original stop anchor plate nuts to the left end of the table. 2. Using the alien bolts provided mount the unit temporarily in place. Make certain the coupler is lined up with'the lead screw shaft. Align the power feed by sliding the coupler over the lead screw. Make certain it is lined up as straight as possible before tightening the mounting bolts. With the elongated hole you can adjust the unit up or down to achieve proper alignment. Use a straight-edge to level the unit with table top. In some applications the unit may be above the table. 3. Check thatthe lead screw is centered with the coupler. Before drilling the mounting hole, connect the power supply and set the unit on a slow speed to assure proper alignment. After checking this, disconnect the power supply and mark the table for the third bolt. 4. Remove the power feed unit. Drill and tape 1/4-20 hole where it has been marked in the left hand front corner. 5. Re-install the power feed unit with the bolts provided. FAILURETO INSTALLTHE THIRD BOLTWILL INVALIDATETHE WARRANTY. 6. Install stop collars, one on each rod section. Attach control rod parts by threading rods together. (a) Install right hand support block by sliding attached anchor nut into table slot. Pre-drilled hole should hang below the slot. (b) Slide rod through pre-drilled hole in the right hand support block. Screw the switch lever into the switch control slot. (c) Install spacers behind center stop. (d) Tighten the right hand support block making certain the stop collars are positioned properly. (Seediagram below.) 7. Connect the grounded power source. This unit should be provided with a separate circuit fused for 2 amps. 115 volts AC/DC. Follow all electrical and safety codes and Occupation Safety and Health Act. 5 CD General Safety Instructions 1. KEEPGUARDS IN PLACE. Safety guards must be kept in place and in working order. 2. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Before turning on machine, check to see that the keys, chucks and adjusting wrenches are removed from the tool. 3. REDUCE THE RISK OF UNINTEN- TIONAL STARTINO. Make sure switch is in the OFF position before plugging in the tool. 4. DO NOT FORCE TOOLS. They will do a job better and safer at the rate for which they were designed. 5. USE RIGHT TOOL. Do not force a tool or an attachment to do a job for which it was not designed. 6. SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold work when practical. It's safer than using your 'land and it frees both hands to operate tools. 7. MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for the best and safest performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. 8. DISCONNECT TOOLS FROM POWER. Before servicing, or when changing accessories such as bits, blades, cutters, etc., disconnect from power. 9. USE RECOMMENDED ACCES. SORIES. Consult the owner's manual for recommended accessories. The use of improper accessories may cause risk of injuries. 10. CHECK DAMAGED PARTS. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any other con. dltions that may effect the tools op' eration. A guard or other part that IS damaged should be properly repaired or replaced. 11. TURN POWER OFF. NEVER LEAVE TOOL RUNNING UNAT. TENDED. Do not leave tool until It comes to a complete stop. 12. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents. 13. DO NOT USE IN DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT. Do not use power tools in damp or wet locations, or expose them to rain. Keep work area weillightedo 14. KEEP CHILDREN AWAY. All visitors should be kept at a safe distance from the work area. 15. MAKE WORKSHOP CHILDPROOF. Use padlocks, master switches, and remove starter keys. 16. WEAR PROPER APPAREL. Loose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings, bracelets or other jewelry may get caught in moving parts. Non-slip footwear is recommended. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair. ' 17. ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLAS. SES AND DUST MASKS. Use face or dust mask if cutting operation is dusty. Everyday eyeglasses only have impact resistant lenses; they ARE NOT safety glasses. 18. DO NOT OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. 19. NEVER STAND ON TOOL. Serious injuries could occur if a moving part is unintentionally con. tacted.

7 (3) SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS (Continued). SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Do not allow flooded coolant to cover the power feed. 2. To avoid damage to gear motor, make certain there is nothing between the gear motor and the base of the milling machine before operating. 3. When disengaged for hand cranking, the auto-stop collars should be loosened and slid out to the end of their travel to avoid damage to the toggle switch and control rod assembly. INTRODUCTION This Jet 16 and 18 Table Power Feed attachment was designed to extend and enhance the function of your Jet 16 or 18 Drilling and Milling Machine by relieving the operator of tedious hand cranking on long cuts, giving longer cutter life, smoother cuts and lowering operator fatigue. It has been designed to give years of service with proper installation and care. GENERALDESCRIPTION This Jet 16 Table Power Feed unit replaces the left hand crank with a motor driven, variable speed, milling table control. This frees the operator from hand cranking and enables the operator to make smoother cuts. Remove mounting bolts which secure unit to table Remove control rod linkage from unit. Remove the three (3) mounting bolts from the gearhead motor. Remove motor. 5. Remove four (4) screws that hold mounting plate to unit. Remove mounting plate. 6. To remove the switch, unscrew the handle from the switch assembly by turning counter-clockwise. Remove the 7. two (2) 10/24 mounting screws on the front face. Pull slide terminals off and remove switch. To remove the speed control, pull control knob off, remove the two (2) 6/32 screws on the front face. terminal off and remove switch. Pull slide

9 3 CONNECTING TO POWER SUPPLY Plug in the power supply cord to any 115 volt ACIDC outlet. Observe all safety precautions listed on page 1 of this manual. CONTROLS This unit is equipped with variable speed control, adjustable stops, and an an/offlon toggle switch which controls the table direct. It also has a rapid traverse button. To Set the Direction: There is an on/off/on toggle switch on the front face of your power feed unit. The center position is the off position. To operate the table in the left direction, push switch to the left. To operate the table to the right, push switch to the right. To Set Speed Control: Push the toggle switch in desired direction and turn the speed control knob clockwise until you reach the desired speed. Full speed willbe extreme clockwise position or #1O. The unit will not operate on the extreme counter-clockwise position of O. The numbers on the speed control correspond with specific inches per minute. The switch must be in the "on" position for the speed control to function. Full speed is achieved by pushing, momentarily, the rapid traverse button. When released it willreturn to set speed on the speed control dial. To Adjust the Automatic Stops: Loosen the setscrew on the collar. Slide the collar to the desired position. Tighten setscrew. There are two collars, one for the right stop and one for the left stop. OPERATIONS Your Power Feed is designed to make smoother, more consistent cuts. To insure the best results, please follow the following suggestions. 1. Avoid shock to the drive unit when entering cuts. Start slowly and increase speed when cutting. 2. The gearmotor is not intended for instant reverse. Be sure the table is stopped before reversing. 3. Avoid heavy cuts and extremely slow speeds. Taking lighter cuts at a moderate speed improves the quality of the work and puts less strain on the cutter and drive unit. 4. When disengaged for hand cranking, the auto-stop collars should be loosened and slid out to the end of their travel to avoid damage to the toggle switch and control rod assembly. 5. Make certain there is nothing between the gear motor and the base of the milling machine before operating. MAINTENANCE CAUTION: MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE POWER SUPPLY IS DISCONNECTED BEFOREATTEMPTINGTO SERVICEORREMOVEANYCOMPONENTSI CLEANING - Properly selected and installed gearmotors are capable of operating for long periods with minimal maintenance. Periodically clean dirt accumulations from in and around vent openings, preferably by vacuuming (avoids imbedding dirt in the windings). At the same time, check that electrical connections are tight. LUBRICATIONS- The motor is equipped with pre-lubricated bearings and will not require re-iubrication. Should the gears require lubrication, use ~ of DuBois TPG grease or its equivalent CAUTION: Completely clean the old lubricant from the gearbox before adding fresh lubricant. Under NO circumstances should different types of lubricants be mix~d. BRUSHES-Inspect periodically, approximately every 100 operating hours. To inspect, FIRSTDISCONNECT POWERSUPPLY.Then remove brush caps and examine brushes and commutator. If brush length is less than 3/16", replace. If commutator is grooved or badly worn, resurface or replace armature. GENERAL- Keep the table free from shavings and other debris by periodically sweeping, vacuuming or blowing clean.
