3 ***IMPORTANT SAFETY PROCEDURES*** Your new paper shredder incorporates powerful, heavy duty cutting mechanisms, serious and permanent injury may result if proper precautions are not followed. 1. This equipment should never be operated by children or individuals that are untrained or incapable of understanding these safety precautions! 2. Do not reach into the feed opening for any reason! Never insert fingers, hands, other extremities, or objects not meant to be shredded into the feed opening! 3. Do not operate or come in close proximity to this equipment wearing long hair, necktie, loose clothing, or jewelry which may activate a photoelectric on/off switch and/or be pulled into the shredder. 4. Maintenance or repair of this equipment should be performed only be trained, authorized service personnel. 5. Always disconnect electrical power (unplug) before removing or opening the cover or other panels providing access to internal mechanisms. For NATIONWIDE SERVICE call 1(800)

4 INSTALLATION Install shredder out of children s reach! Paper shredders are for use in shredding documents and other sensitive information on paper. Important: The shredder should be installed only in a dry area! Ensure free access to mains. The shredder should always be turned off when not in use. Please remove the plug from the wall socket before removing any covers! Please note that all packaging should be retained by the customer for (30) days from the time of receipt. In the event that this unit needs to be sent back for replacement or repair this packaging will be required to do so. Should the packaging have been discarded before the (30) day requested period, packaging costs will be incurred by the customer. 1. Open the door (2). Insert a plastic bag (3) into the bag frame from below; fold over all four sides and slide it into the guide rails. 2. Place the shredder cutting head into the top of the cabinet with the control panel (1) towards the front. To insure proper installation and avoiding injury SEM recommends that two people set-up this shredder. 3. After reading the operating instructions slide them into the holder (a) and close the door. 4. Connect the power cord to a normal single phase socket. Fuse: 16 amp. Max. (115 Volt-Version: 15 amp. 5 OPERATION 1. Push the button on (a). The green control light (b) will illuminate. The paper shredder now is in the stand-by mode. The shredder will automatically stop and return to the stand-by mode after each use. 2. Via the red button 0 (c) is it possible to interrupt paper shredding. The shredder stops and paper can be reversed via the reverse button (d). By pressing the red button 0 (c) longer the machine switches off. 3. If too much paper is inserted and jams, push reverse button (d) when required. Remove the paper and re-feed the paper in smaller quantities. 4. If the bag full control light (e) is on, the shred bag must be emptied (Replacement plastic bags are available, see accessories). 5. For safety reasons the shredder will not operate when the cabinet door is open, the red control symbol (f) will illuminate. MAINTENANCE In case of declining shredding capacity or disturbing noises from the shredder cutting head, please put oil on a sheet of paper and shred it. (A special oil for this purpose is available, see accessories). From time to time the paper outlet on the underside of the shredder cutting head should be cleaned. Please pull the plug from the wall socket before this operation. For NATIONWIDE SERVICE call 1(800)

6 TROUBLESHOOTING The shredder will not start. Please check the following points: Is the shredder plugged-in? Switch is in position I? Is the waste bag full? Is the front door open? Feed paper into the center of the feed opening to ensure that the photo cell is activating. The shredder will not stop. Clean the photo cells with a brush or something similar to ensure that all debris has been removed. The shredder stops after being used for a long period of time. The thermal motor protection switch prevents possible overheating. After a short cooling down period, the power supply will be automatically re-established. If none of these points are applicable. Contact SEM s Customer Service Department. ORDERING SPARE PARTS Use only original SEM spare part replacements. SEM guarantees their quality and functional reliability. Warranty claims on parts and/or service must be approved by SEM s Customer Service Manager. Hints for Ordering Spare Parts The spare parts shown on the following pages display both diagrams of the different areas of the shredder as well as the designated part numbers.
