3 1.0 Introduction The operation of modern-day, high-performance textile machinery involves a multitude of lubrication requirements which standard lubricants can meet only partly, if at all. The German Standard DIN , Lubricants for textile dyeing and finishing machinery, provides a general listing of only two lubricating greases based on mineral oils, plus some lubricant groups (e.g. lubricating and hydraulic oils) and adhesive lubricants on a mineral oil basis, together with the corresponding standard code letters. This does not yet amount to overall application engineering guidelines and standardization options. Formulating these is rendered more difficult by the extremely wide variety of different friction points, with their very different stresses and environmental conditions. It is here that special lubricants come into their own. At Klüber Lubrication, application-tailored solutions involving special lubricants for highly stressed friction points in textile machinery have a long tradition. All over the world, machine manufacturers and users can benefit from highquality lubricants of proven efficiency. Special lubricants, when properly selected and utilized, not only improve operational reliability, they also cut maintenance costs substantially. The very high sums which still have to be spent on correcting damage caused by friction and wear can be effectively reduced by the use of special lubricants. In this context it is of course of crucial importance to choose the right lubricant this is the key to successful lubrication. The choice of a lubricant must be governed by the technical and operational requirements profile of the friction point involved and not primarily by the costs. The performance and functional reliability of the lubricant are much more important than a price per pound comparison showing the supposed advantages of cheap lubricant purchasing. High-quality special lubricants, though they may cost more, are more economical for you in the long run. Lubrication and lubricants are today more than ever the subject of meticulous scrutiny by engineers and materials planning staff. But special lubricants also make an important contribution to reducing environmental pollution; often only small quantities are needed to provide long-term or lifetime lubrication in cases where total-loss lubrication would not only be uneconomical but would also involve substantial environmental difficulties. Technical development, however, is never at a standstill; and we will always welcome your suggestions for expanding and supplementing this brochure. On top rollers (deep groove ball bearings) a service life of several years without relubrication is achievable. 7

They are scourable and neutral towards elastane fibres and elastomers. Klüber needle oils have been tested and approved by knitting machine manufacturers worldwide. For instance, they are used for initial lubrication by Mayer & Cie., Terrot, Stoll and Universal. There is no universal method to remove oil stains from the different types of knitting materials or fibre mixtures. In consequence, close cooperation between the knitting and the finishing sections is required when selecting a suitable detergent. QUIETSCH-EX SPRAY for flat bed frames and Klüberpaste 46 MR 401 or ALTEMP Q NB 50 for ball joint bushes The performance of these lubricants lasts at least from one warp beam change to the next, so trouble-free production is guaranteed due to the long-lasting effect and good adhesion to the friction points. QUIETSCH-EX is also an excellent corrosion preventive and rust removal agent. Klüberpaste 46 MR 401 and ALTEMP Q NB 50 also are universal lubricating and assembly pastes preventing fretting corrosion. 21
22 10.0 Lubricants for Sizing Machines and Looms Example Machine / Component Lubrication Problem / Requirements Bearings of drying cylinders and calender rollers in sizing dryers If mineral-oil-based lubricants are used, high bearing temperatures (drying cylinders up to max. 165 C) result in short lubrication intervals and/or increased residue formation. Compared with mineral oil, residue formation is substantially lower, and oil change intervals can be extended considerably (3 to 5 times longer). MICROLUBE GBU Y 131 allows extension of relubrication intervals to one month, even at extremely high speeds. STABURAGS NBU 12 ALTEMP provides reliable protection against fretting corrosion. SYNTHESO D 220 is recommended for sizing dryers. Calender manufacturers recommend it for oil-lubricated rolling and plain bearings subject to high thermal stress. MICROLUBE GBU Y 131 has an excellent backflow behaviour, which is especially important in friction points subject to oscillating motion. This lubricant is recommended by Sultex (Sulzer Textil). ALTEMPAN POB White lubricant powder with extraordinary sliding characteristics; consumption approx. 1 g per 24 h per machine This lubricating powder eliminates the risk of contamination and increases the service life of the gripper tapes by up to 100 %. ALTEMPAN POB has been successfully used for bobbins in bobbinet weaving for many years. ISOFLEX TOPAS NB 52 ISOFLEX ALLTIME SL 1 Both ISOFLEX types are smooth-running greases with operational reliability and long service life. Recommended for weaving machines by Sauer-Diederichs SYNTHESO D 150 EP or SYNTHESO D 100 EP (depending on weaving machine type) Fully synthetic gear oils with high pressure absorption capacity for extreme loads Longer oil change intervals: approx op. hrs. instead of approx op. hrs. Chain and gear lubricant, very adhesive, which prevents splashing, good damping properties. Suitable for spray heads with point and wide-jet application GRAFLOSCON CA ULTRA-SPRAY is an ideal lubricant for open gears. Wellmetered application on drive chains ensures minimum adhesion of lint and dust. STABURAGS NBU 30 A hot-water, steam, alkali and acid resistant special grease, ideal for the internal protection of steamers High-temperature chain oils: Klübersynth CTH or PRIMIUM FLUID SPECIAL or HOTEMP PLUS STABURAGS NBU 30 is a reliable and economical long-term protection, as it provides an internal coating which lasts for one year or more in most cases. Premature expensive replacement of the steamer lining is, consequently, not necessary. Note: New steamer wall materials may require a different long-term protection agent. STABURAGS NBU 30 is a special long-term grease with excellent sealing properties suitable for low-speed rolling and plain bearings in wet processing machines. It is applied according to the recommendations of the machine manufacturers. UNISILKON L 50/2 Alternatively: UNISILKON GLK 112 For sliding chains: Klübersynth CTH Fully synthetic high-performance chain oil for high temperatures or HOTEMP PLUS above 200 C or PRIMIUM FLUID SPECIAL Grease lubrication for chains supported by ball bearings: BARRIERTA L 55/2 for long-term lubrication or in acc. with manufacturer s instructions. Long-term lubricated bearings have a different design requiring lower relubrication quantities. Alternative for long-term lubrication: Klübertemp HM UNISILKON L 50/2 For oil lubrication: HOTEMP PLUS Separating effect on condensates and, consequently, less build-up of residues. Efficient lubrication of the chain links, rolling bearings and slide rails under varying operating conditions (speed, temperature, stretching tension). Low power consumption with practically wear-free operation Synthetic sliding surfaces on stenter chains with special lubricant requirements in terms of evaporation, formation of residues, regenerative capacity, friction and wetting behaviour resulted in the development of Klübersynth CTH This special chain oil meets all requirements and has a considerably better viscosity-temperature behaviour than previous standard chains oils. BRÜCKNER recommend STRUCTOVIS BHD MF for the lubrication of worm gears in stenters. Klüberquiet BQH , BQ for long-term and lifetime lubrication mostly of rolling bearings that do not allow relubrication running at > 100 C and high speeds For rolling bearings that can be relubricated: Klüberplex BEM Klüberquiet greases are characterized by a wider service temperature range and an extremely high resistance to temperature and speed. At high temperatures, runtimes > 4000 hours are possible without relubrication; the same applies to Klüberplex BEM at low temperatures. Klüberquiet/Klüberplex greases meet most requirements to be satisfied by today s rolling bearing lubricants. Our tried-and-tested greases STABURAGS N 12 MF and STABURAGS NBU 8 EP continue to be good choices for many applications. 31
