1 ABRASIVES 26 Diamond Blade Troubleshooting Diamond blade does not cut: Cause: The blade is too hard for the material being cut. Solution: Use a softer blade specification. Cause: The segments have become blunt & polished. Solution: Sharpen the segments by cutting in to an abrasive material such as sandstone or abrasive concrete block. If segments continue to become blunt use a softer blade. Cause: Insufficient machine power. Solution: Check that the drive belts are tight and in good condition. Check that the line voltage to motor is correct. Excessive blade wear: Cause: The blade is too soft for the material being cut. Solution: Use a harder blade specification. Cause: Blade speed too low. Solution: Increase speed on machine or change machine type. Cause: Poor water supply. Solution: Make sure water hoses are clean and free from blockages. Cause: Machine Power too high. Solution: Ensure the blade used is suitable for the power of the machine. The more power the higher the diamond content and quality of blade required. Cracking of segments and/or steel centre: Cause: Blade is too hard for the material being cut. Solution: Use a softer blade specification. Cause: Blade running at excessive speed. Solution: Check that the blade shaft it running at the correct speed with a tachometer. Cause: Blade is out of tension. Solution: Replace blade or have the blade re-tensioned. Segment Loss. Cause: Blade is too hard for the material being cut. Solution: Use a softer blade specification. Cause: Material moved during cutting. Solution: Hold material securely when cutting. Cause: Steel core worn thin under segment. Solution: Use a blade with undercut protection segments when cutting abrasive materials such as asphalt. Avoid cutting into abrasive road base and increase water flow to blade if possible to wash out the debris from the cut. Uneven segment wear: Cause: Segments worn on one side of the blade. Solution: Make sure water feed pipes are clean and free from blockages on both sides of the blade. Cause: Blade not cutting straight. Solution: Check the saw alignment and ensure flanges are clean and free from dirt and of the same size. Blade worn out of round. Cause: The blade is too hard for the material being cut. Solution: Use a softer blade specification. Cause: Worn or damaged spindle and/or bearings. Solution: Replace spindle and/or bearings. Cause: Oversized or damaged bore. Solution: Use a new diamond blade and/or return damaged blade to the manufacturer for possible repair. Cause: Engine is surging. Solution: Service and tune engine so it runs smoothly. Blade Wobbles. Cause: Worn or damaged spindle and/or bearings. Solution: Replace spindle and/or bearings. Cause: Flanges are different diameters or too small. Solution: Make sure flanges are of correct diameter for the blade, and are of the same diameter. Cause: Excessive operator cutting pressure. Solution: Use a steady even infeed pressure and always cut in a straight line. Cause: Blade is out of tension. Solution: Replace blade or have the blade re-tensioned. Cause: Blade is bent or damaged. Solution: Replace the blade. Undercutting. Cause: Steel core worn thin under segment. Solution: Use a blade with undercut protection segments when cutting abrasive materials such as asphalt.
