1 Exhaust Notes photo by Sara McEnhill Nebraska Region SCCA June 2018 Steering Column Steve Ducharme Regional Executive Region members sometimes play major roles at the national level. One of these members is John Hunter, a long-time region member and multi-time regional champion, National Champion, and experienced performance driving instructor both on the track and on the solo course. Earlier this year, John joined the SCCA Marketing and Experiential team as the editor of SoloMatters and Coordinator of the Starting Line school. John s new roles with national SCCA is another example of how Nebraska Region is fortunate to play an outsize role in SCCA Solo. You are probably aware that two of the world s largest motorsports events take place at Lincoln Air Park, over 300 competitors at the Spring Nationals at the end of May and over 1300 at the Solo and ProSolo National Championships last September. You may also be aware of the many region members holding national championships. Region members support regional, divisional, and national events in many ways, such as setting up and tearing down the fence, serving as event stewards and chiefs, and providing critical behind-the scenes support for site preparation, event operations, the test and tune course, and hospitality. There are plenty of opportunities for region members to help out with these events, and many others Solo and RallyCross points events, Club Racing, Street Survival, Formula SAE, to name a few. 3 Nebraska Regional Meetings Membership meetings are held as the need arises and will be announced in the newsletter or by postcard, and on the NRSCCA web site ( Board of Governors meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month at Denny s at I-80 exit 432. They have a meeting room and food (come early and eat). Members welcome. Meeting starts at 7:30 PM. New Members: Matt Sittel Matt discussed he had sent a proposal to Steve. Tony Mitera and Deb Erpelding offered to help. In discussion perhaps a Novice Guide could be appointed for new members attending a Solo to help welcome them and get more acquainted. Deb would like to make some info cards. Social Media: Ben Tusa Ben said Facebook was not working. Ben said he will work on it and get further promotions out. Newsletter: Sara McEnhill Sara is looking for stories for exhaust notes. Please contact her by June 4, 2018 deadline and by first Mon in July. June will be full from pictures at Spring Nationals, etc. Activities: Anthony Jackson Anthony said May 5-6, 2018, had a Starting Line School, Test-In-Tune and Solo on May 6,2018. June 9-10 will be Solo Trials and a Solo with activity points. Rallycross will be June 17,2018 and a Solo June 24. Rallycross: Mike LoveJoy Mike discussed there was no May event. Mike talked with 1-80 manager and instead of grading all the RX site was able to have them do work improvements in ruts and outside the bowl area. Solo Chair: Vacant Steve discussed that that John Hunter would still help with course design and mentor. Also duties need to be designed for this position. An apprentice could be assigned. 4 Club Racing: Kevin Kopecky Kevin discussed that if possible start promoting the race September 22-23, The race is struggling to get enough workers. Perhaps incentives could be for workers, etc. Lincoln Air Park : Mar Walker ( not present) Mark texted that Spring Nationals were sold out early. The test-n-tune earned its way. Points : Deb Erpelding Deb suggested workers not driving should sign in at registration and have paperwork sent to her. The NRSCCA website needs to be updated with the points. Steve will updraft ruled for the points on the NRSC- CA website. Focus Session Steve set up Matt and Kevin on MSR Old Business Steve said we need an Organizer for Street Survival. 9 New Business Skidpad Challenge proposed at Nationals by Grassroots Motorsports. * FMod car build On the Backburner Should we survey the Membership for potential changes ( to points or whatever) 9 Meeting adjourned 9:59pm * Grassroots decided not to do the Skidpad Challenge this year. Matt will try to make contact with new members before and after a event. Better follow through with novices at Solo events. Gate pass out Novice card. Having 1 or 2 mentors available during orientation on their off heat with Novices.
