1 2PORSCHE The KKK Turbocharger (Kuhnle, Kopp und Kausch AG) was larger than that fitted to the 930 road car. It was centrally mounted at the rear of the engine, upon an aluminum cross member, which had been fabricated to replace the rear cross member of the 911 shell. The previous cross member had been cut out to give space for the engine and its plumbing. A Garrett wastegate was used, mechanically controlled from the cockpit. The pressurized intake air was fed to a plenum chamber, which then fed it s equalized air quantity to each intake manifold with a throttle-controlled wastegate incorporated. The gearbox, as in the 3.0 RSR, was the Type 915 oil-cooled 5-speed and reverse unit but with strengthened sideplates fitted. This gearbox was operating at the limit of it s torque-absorbing capacity in the new 25

2 7PORSCHE sition and walked the class, finishing half a lap ahead of the second-placed car. Baby never ran again. Porsche had made its point that it could win any class it turned its hand to, and the Baby can now be seen in Porsche s museum. A footnote to the factory-entered Baby saga was the car built up by Jan Lundgardh of Sweden in the early 1980s. This was called the L1 and consisted of a spaceframe-type chassis with Kremer K3- type bodywork. It was also fitted with a 1.4- liter engine to bring it within the 2-liter class rules. It raced at Le Mans in 1981, driven by Lundgardh, Axel Plankenhorn and Mike Wilds but failed to finish. In the German National Championship for which it had been built, it led two races and was demonstrably faster than the Works-entered Lancias. Sadly, a lack of finance put an end to this promising private entrant. Jackie Ickx during his victorious drive at Hockenheim where he led the 2-litre class from start to finish. Behind his Baby 935 are a Max Moritz-entered 934 and a Zakspeed-tuned Ford Anglia. 79

Haldi, together with Herbert Muller, raced 0904 in World Championship events in 1977 and In 1979, Haldi, together with Jacques Rey, the previous owner of a Lola T70, took in an assortment of races in 1979 before Haldi sold the car, probably to Herve Poulain who, after just three races, sold it, to whom we do not know. It was exhibited at the Le Mans museum until 2016, when it was auctioned.
