THE INCEPTION OF A TRUE PREMIUM BRAKE PAD Raybestos brand friction has an immense number of production approved friction formulations, ensuring that no matter the application or usage, we have what it takes. Never content with the present, we are at work developing new formulations to improve every area of braking for the vehicles of today and tomorrow. Our in-house research and development team takes each new Raybestos brand friction formulation through a stringent series of tests to confirm that even when subjected to the harshest of conditions, our friction materials maintain the same safety and performance standards as their original equipment counterparts. Before production release, each potential new Raybestos brand friction formulation faces four critical testing areas: Physical and Chemical Testing We test strength and chemical properties of the materials to ensure they can handle the stresses of a severe or sudden braking situation. Dynamometer Testing Our dynamometers test for performance, noise and wear at infinite pressure, temperature and noise frequency levels. The single ended dyno simulates just one axle of a vehicle while the dual ended dyno brings the rear brakes into consideration and verifies the proper combination of front and rear braking for a complete vehicle system. On Car Performance Testing Our test fleet is comprised of a wide range of vehicles fully instrumented to measure critical variables. Once again, performance, noise and wear are evaluated. Anti-lock brake systems and individual brakes can be switched on and off to measure the effect on safety in the event of related system failures. Fleet Testing Having passed all previous criteria, we install our new friction formulas on several test fleets around the country to measure real world performance in severe environments. Typically, our new formulations have more than one million miles of fleet testing before achieving production approval.

Meeting the OE Standard for Excellence R&D, D 3 EA, DEA and BEEP testing cover more than 150 platforms including everything from passenger cars to school buses. CONSISTENT QUALITY Every formulation from every manufacturing facility is audited monthly and subjected to additional quarterly testing to ensure that the brake pads you use perform consistently and as expected. Gogan Test Sheer Test Gogan Hardness Test Measures compressibility and must fall into a narrow range specific for each formulation. Sheer Test Measures the strength of the bond between the steel backing plate and the friction material. Density Test Measures the weight and volume of the formula mix and ensures adherence to the material specifications. All Raybestos brand friction manufacturing facilities have earned ISO/TS accreditation. This certification for quality validation and manufacturing superiority is required of every company who supplies an OE manufacturer.
