14 TIRE REPAIR MATERIALS Radial Repair Units REMA TIP TOP Radial PREVENT Tire Repair Units The REMA TIP TOP PREVENT Repair Units are used for Tread or Shoulder Area repairs only, or for partial Belt damage to 57" and 6" tires. Until now, only section Repair Units existed for this type of repair to the large tires. PREVENT Repair Units are used when there is damage to the st, 2nd, rd, and 4th working belt, with no damage to the Body (or Radial) ply. For the correct application, see the Repair Chart below. These Repair Units have less reinforcement plies than the traditional RAD 65, RAD 75, and RAD 85 Repair Units. PREVENT Repair Units may be used with the REMA TIP TOP OTR Chemical Cement or the MTR Heat Cure Cement, depending upon the repair system. For detailed application instructions for both kinds of systems (Chemical and Heat), refer to the REMA TIP TOP OTR Repair Manual. REMA TIP TOP PREVENT Repair Units are for Tread and Shoulder Belt Package repair reinforcement only. For tires which operate with very little casing movement (less than 5 ) a full strength Repair Unit for preventative and full penetration repair reinforcement is suitable and recommended. REMA TIP TOP PREVENT Repair Units may not provide suitable reinforcement for repairs on Nylon Radial Tires e.g. Titan Tires. If the injury sizes exceed these measurements the Technician needs to assess whether a full strength Repair Unit is suitable and appropriate for the tire and injury size. 77 MINICOMBI Nail Hole Repair Procedures for Passenger, Light Truck and Truck Tires Tires must be removed from the wheel to perform permanent and proper repair. 2 4 Inspect and mark the tire on the outside. Deflate the tire and remove from the wheel. Place on tire spreader. Locate and remove the penetrating object. Mark the injury on the inside Inspect the injury. If the angle of the injury channel is less than 5 degrees, a one-piece repair system can be used. Apply pre-buff cleaner. Scrape away contaminants while the Pre-Buff cleaner is still wet. Repeat 2- times. Drill the injury channel using a low speed buffer (<200 rpm) from the inside-out two or three times. Drill the injury channel using a low speed buffer (<200 rpm) from the outside-in once or twice Mark around the repair unit. Lightly buff the repair area using a low speed buffer (<5,000 RPM) with a clean buffing rasp, 8 to 6 grit. Clean the buffed area with a 604 Brass Brush by brushing the area several times in one direction. Use a vacuum to remove all debris from the inside of the tire Apply BL-8F Special Blue Cement to the injury channel using a #626 pull-wire or a #90 awl. Apply a thin, even coat of BL-8F Special Blue Cement to the buffed area using a clean brush Relax the tire beads and then Install the MINICOMBI Repair Unit by inserting the guide pin and stem from the inside outwards. Pull the guide pin from the outside. Regrasp on the rubber portion of the stem and pull until the MINICOMBI base is flush with the tire and slightly dimples. Stitch thoroughly from the center outwards. Continue several times in different directions. Apply 76F Innerliner Repair Sealant to the base of the MINICOMBI and any still exposed buffed areas. Re-mount & inflate the tire. Cut the stem & buff. Check for leaks and balance the tire. Refer to the REMA TIP TOP Nail Hole Repair Procedures Wall Chart or the REMA TIP TOP Repair CD for complete detailed repairing instructions. Always refer to the repair chart, safety advice and repair instructions packaged with the product. When working with solutions, rotary tools, sharp-edged tools, hot devices and hot materials, always take the necessary precautions and wear appropriate gloves, adequate eye protection (safety glasses or face shields), ear protection and observe maximum RPM while repairing tires. 77 TIRE REPAIR MATERIALS
