4 Innovation: ATTENTION ASSIST Product Management 2014 E-Class Sedan/Wagon ATTENTION ASSIST continuously analyzes driving behaviour and steering movements. If the system detects certain steering patterns that frequently accompany drowsiness, it warns the driver visually by displaying the "coffee cup" symbol in the instrument cluster at the same time as emitting audible signals. ATTENTION ASSIST is now active at a wider speed range from km/h The system's sensitivity can also be adjusted, e.g. for drivers who already feel tired when they get behind the wheel. New information page in the instrument cluster display shows the driver s current attention level, system status and driving time since last break ATTENTION ASSIST also interacts with the vehicle s navigation system to display nearby service centres in addition to the drowsiness warning 5

5 Innovation: PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist 6 At speeds below 36 km/h PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist automatically searches for suitable parking spaces (perpendicular & parallel) via ultrasonic sensors Active Parking Assist takes over control of the steering wheel if the driver selects reverse gear and confirms the intention to park in the suggested space via the multifunction steering wheel The driver merely has to operate the gear selector and accelerator PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist smoothly steers the car into the parking space as quickly and accurately as an experienced driver An automatic braking function is active during automatic parking which stops the vehicle when a certain distance from the end of the parking space has been reached, or an obstacle is detected. PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist can also aid the driver in exiting a parking spot provided that the vehicle was parking using Active Parking Assist The system does not monitor traffic conditions and the driver is responsible for safety at all times

6 Innovation: 360 Camera 7 Makes parking easier due to assistance in maneuvering and supports the driver with detection of suitable parking spots. 7 Innovation: Crosswind Assist Crosswind Assist is active at speeds of 80 km/h and up Crosswind Assist aids the driver by reducing the vehicle's lateral drift substantially in windy driving conditions Crosswind Assist is integrated into the ESP sensor system and enables the timely detection of gusts of crosswind Automatic brake intervention on the wheels on the side of the vehicle facing the wind results in a yaw motion which counteracts the crosswind 8

8 Innovation: ESP with Dynamic Cornering Assist The ESP Dynamic Cornering Assist system expands the functionalities of ESP and enables particularly agile cornering. Details: Improves traction at the front axle and reduces steering requirement when cornering by slightly braking the inside drive wheel Generates a stabilizing yaw effect during fast cornering by applying brake pressure to the inside rear wheel Benefits: Agile acceleration out of corners Reduced steering requirement when cornering briskly Improved directional stability when driving briskly on winding roads 9

9 Innovation: MAGIC BODY CONTROL MAGIC BODY CONTROL guarantees optimum handling characteristics right up to the physical limits. This is assisted by the newly designed axle bearings at the front wheel control and the rear subframe. The suspension uses the innovative ROAD SURFACE SCAN the road surface ahead is precisely scanned with a help of a multifunction camera located behind the windscreen. In no time, the system optimally adjusts the damping at each wheel to suit an uneven surface ahead. MAGIC BODY CONTROL effectively compensates body roll and pitching when moving off, cornering, or braking creating a significant reduction of lateral forces which are experienced as well as enhanced driving pleasure, especially on winding routes. 10

10 Innovation: MAGIC VISION CONTROL Standard MAGIC VISION CONTROL is a new high efficiency wiper/washer system developed by Mercedes-Benz first seen on the SL System cleans the windshield without disrupting the driver s field of view Laser-cut wiper blade has two precisely cut fluid channels on the left and right Windshield washing fluid is always applied in the direction of wiper arm movement which improves consumption of washer fluid The system is fully heated including the wiper blade itself 11

11 Innovation: MAGIC SKY CONTROL MAGIC SKY CONTROL creates an open-air feeling at the push of a button. The large panoramic roof changes from dark to transparent or vice versa within a few seconds. In a tinted state, it substantially reduces heating-up of the vehicle interior. This type of screening is far more effective than a roof with a conventional tinted glass reducing the interior temperature by up to 10 degrees. The transparency of the two sections of the roof can be changed independently for each section. The glass darkens automatically when the vehicle is parked, thus preventing the interior from heating up. 12

12 Innovation: Warmth & Comfort Package On cold days, heating of the seats, armrests and steering wheel very rapidly ensures cosy warmth from all surfaces with which the driver and passengers come into contact. Using LED technology these illuminate the road surface more efficiently than Bi-Xenon headlamps with reduced dazzle, a lower energy consumption and a much longer operating life. 16 Innovation: PRE-SAFE Impulse During a frontal impact the driver and front passenger are subjected to very high loads within fractions of a second. By controlling seatbelt tension during the collision, PRE-SAFE Impulse reduces the risk of injuries considerably. Features: Tensions the seat belts in the early phase of an impact, and accelerates the occupants against the direction of the impact Relaxes the retraction as a controlled energy-reducing process at the moment when the peak loads occur Pre-acceleration and force limitation enable the occupants to be temporarily isolated from the crash 17

19 Innovation: Touchpad The functions of COMAND Online can be controlled via the innovative touchpad, using single or multiple-finger gestures (multitouch), swiping movements and pinching gestures to zoom in and out. Innovative handwriting recognition feature: users are able to input letters, special characters and numbers in their normal handwriting, in any language available in the head unit. 3 similarly touch-sensitive buttons located behind the touchpad allow direct operation of functions such as Back, shortcuts to the favourites menu and the quick audio menu. For improved orientation, the symbols on the touchpad are illuminated in the dark. 20

Your car must have installed the SPLITVIEW display for COMAND or the Rear-Seat Entertainment system to connect the app via WiFi. Zoom and scroll the map in the car and see the details of the navigation destination. Select which music or videos you want to play and control the playback. Control the volume of your wired headphones directly from the app. Use the ipod/iphone keyboard to directly enter search terms or URLs to the car. MB Touch makes your device a touchpad for mouse control in the COMAND web browser. Manage contour seat adjustments and massage programs directly from your iphone.

23 Innovation: Head-Up Display Full-colour display with a resolution of 480 x 240 pixels and back-lit by high-power LEDs. Key driver information at a glance, without the driver having to take their eyes off the road. Projects a virtual image (approximately 21 x 7 cm) into the driver s field of vision, in high-resolution and in colour, making it clearly legible even on sunny days and at night. Information displayed includes navigation tips, speed, settings for DISTRONIC PLUS. Height position of the image, brightness and displayed content can be changed individually through a menu in the instrument cluster. 24

26 Innovation: Intelligent Drive DISTRONIC PLUS with Steer Assist 27 Details Intelligent automatic cruise control with lane guidance Uses the information from a 3D stereo camera in combination with radar sensors fitted all around the vehicle Operates in a speed range from 0 to 200 km/h Steer Assist automatically keeps the vehicle in the middle of its lane on straight roads and slight bends, if the lane markings on both sides are clearly visible If Steer Assist is active, it is indicated by a green steering-wheel symbol in the instrument cluster Additional following function based on the vehicle ahead when driving in traffic at speeds under 60 km/h, particularly when lane markings are missing or unclear Intelligent hands-off recognition: if the driver removes their hands from the steering wheel, a warning is emitted and STEER CONTROL is deactivated only if the situation requires it. Slow, hands-off stop-andgo driving in traffic is possible.

27 Innovation: Intelligent Drive BAS PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist 28 Details Brake Assist PLUS is able to reduce the risk of rear-end collisions and accidents at road junctions Continuous monitoring of the traffic situation ahead of the vehicle by means of radar sensors and a 3D stereo camera Vehicles travelling ahead are registered up to a speed of 250 km/h Crossing traffic and bicyclists are registered up to a speed of 72 km/h, as well as pedestrians who are stationary or moving slowly in the path of the vehicle When the danger of a collision is recognized, the system gives a visual warning in the instrument cluster and an audible warning If the driver firmly applies the brakes, the system calculates the brake pressure that would be needed to prevent a collision If a collision cannot be prevented, the impact speed is reduced as much as possible by emergency braking

28 Innovation: Intelligent Drive PRE-SAFE PLUS Details Occupant protection system to initiate preventive protection measures before an impending rear-end collision when stationary Uses radar sensors in the rear bumper to monitor the traffic behind the vehicle Locks the brakes of the stationary vehicle if the driver has indicated a wish to remain stationary, e.g. by keeping the brake pedal depressed, HOLD function activated or selector lever in position "P" Initiates occupant protection measures such as reversible belt tensioning Maintains the increased brake pressure for two seconds after an impact to prevent the vehicle from rolling forward e.g. at a intersection, while restoring maneuverability after the impact if possible 29

The increased length is almost exclusively used for the comfort of the rear passengers. To give an even greater feeling of privacy and exclusivity, the rear seat backrest is positioned behind the door cutout. 32
