1 Rethinking Water Management Systems
2 CUBED-Product Specifications PIPE-R reservoir system is available in three standard-cubed sizes: PIPE-R x 88 (2235 x 2235 mm); PIPE-R x 42 (1067 x 1067 mm); and PIPE-R90 88 x 42 (2235 x 1067 mm) with height at (219 mm) intervals up to (2191 mm). The cubes can be placed side-by-side in the trench to fit the design storage volume and site constraints. There are two wider sections of PIPE-R reservoir system of varying lengths and heights, called PIPE-R11W and PIPE-R15W. PIPE-R11W is for load bearing systems with maximum row width of 11 feet (3.35 m), which equates to the combination of one PIPE-R1890 and PIPE-R90 laid side-by-side. PIPE-R15W is for non-load bearing systems, the maximum width is 15 feet (4.57m), that is, two PIPE-R1890 laid side by side. The width of a chamber is limited by the expected pavement loading on the reservoir system, i.e. load bearing (vehicular traffic) or non-load bearing. If the site conditions require wider sections to achieve the design storage volume, then two or more rows of the PIPE-R system can be placed adjacent to each other and separated by a minimum of 3 feet (914 mm) or 2 feet (610 mm) embedment materials for load (paved with vehicular traffic) or non-load (unpaved and no vehicular traffic) bearing systems, respectively. For product dimensions for typical 5-BPU layers systems for the three standard sizes, refer to Table 1. 3 System Configuration The flexible configuration of PIPE-R reservoir system allows for the adjustment of the cube sizes to fit adequately into site conditions and/or regulatory requirements. The estimate for the number of cubes needed for installation at a project site is determined by the target storage volume, site constraints and design criteria. The site may be constrained by the availability of space for stormwater management and/or the depth of the seasonal high groundwater table. The reservoir can be installed in shallow or deep, wide or narrow, on a level grade elevation or stepped grade elevations, and in rows of two or more spaced 2 to 3 feet apart. A PIPE-R reservoir chamber is the collection of BPUs or cubes to create a single unit of the reservoir system within the entire PIPE-R reservoir system. 2
4 PIPE-R90 Product Specifications Figure 1 shows the cross sections of PIPE-R90 reservoir product with length, width and typical height dimensions. When wrapped in a geotextile liner, the percent of voids is 96 of the total volume occupied, and is available for storage. The volume occupied by a single unit of PIPE-R90 reservoir system is approximately 87.4 ft 3 (2.5 m 3 ) with 96 percent void space available for storage. In addition, Table 2 presents the geometric and hydraulic properties of PIPE-R90 reservoir unit when empty and full with water.
