2 ECO HYBRID IT makes business sense! The Fuso 2012 Model Year Canter Eco Hybrid is Fuso s second generation Canter Hybrid. This latest model has been designed to make even greater business sense, not just offer a truck with better environmental credentials than a diesel vehicle. Fuso has been manufacturing Hybrid trucks since in 2006 and has been selling its Eco Hybrids in Australia since Now with far in excess of one thousand hybrid trucks driving the roads of the world daily, Fuso has used more than 5 years of field data and real world experience to optimise the design of this new model. Fuso Eco hybrid customers experiences have demonstrated Fuso s hybrid technology constantly saves very significant amounts of fuel in both city and suburban applications. Fuso, in continually striving for excellence, has applied its years of experience and field collection to the 2012 model to optimise the design of the Fuso Hybrid System make it even more affordable and achieve even better return on investment. The Canter Eco Hybrid has four separate driving modes, and continuously switches between them to always use the one best suited for the current driving situation: electric motor or diesel engine alone, a combination of the two and electricity re-generative mode. This ensures optimal torque when starting, fuel-efficient, low-emission performance during normal driving, smooth response when accelerating, and effective regeneration when braking. During starts, the vehicle can be powered entirely by the electric motor, providing extremely quiet performance. In fast acceleration situations, when the driver presses hard on the accelerator, the motor and diesel engine work together. When the diesel engine is decelerating, or going downhill, re-generative braking energy is converted into electricity by the electric motor to be stored in the battery for later use. The clutch disengages to improve charging efficiency. During acceleration, the diesel engine and the electric motor work simultaneously. The electric motor reduces the load on the diesel engine to improve fuel efficiency. The diesel engine, now in its most fuel efficient and low emission state, drives the vehicle, the electric motor provides assistance when extra torque is needed and to lighten the diesel engine load and reduce fuel consumption. The amount of assistance provided depends on the state of charge of the battery and the engine rpm.

3 ECO HYBRID PARALLEL-TYPE HYBRID SYSTEM The Canter Eco Hybrid uses a parallel-type hybrid system that incorporates a diesel engine together with an electric motor. Depending on driving needs, the system can actively switch between either power source or use them together to ensure optimal performance. Clean 4P10 Diesel Engine DUONIC High Power Electric Motor The oil-cooled motor is set inside of the DUONIC automated transmission, between the clutch and the gearbox. It is designed to be more efficient, compact and lightweight than the previous design. Lithium Ion Battery The highly durable, integrated Li-ion battery uses an air cooling system, providing excellent performance with superior power. The new battery design requires no periodic replacement and holds a larger capacity, all while being more compact and lightweight. Inverter Situated on the left side of the vehicle, the battery and inverter unit have been integrated and made more compact than the previous equivalent, making the entire hybrid system 40% lighter than it predeccessor, improving Canter Eco Hybrid s carrying ability.
