12 UV-A Lamp technology & Lamp coating technology UV-A Lamp technology - Introducing the Philips Long-life UV-A lamps In close partnership with Philips, Alcochem Hygiene has developed a range of powerful UV-A lamps, used for insect trap applications: the Long-life UV-A lamps. These lamps are used in most of the Insect control units from the i-trap, Eco-trap and Flex-trap range This lamp range includes 15w, 18w and 36w versions and has proven to be highly reliable, deliver high performance over time, be the most environmental solution on the market and allow best in class maintenance planning thanks to its long life time as is shown in the diagram. Glass fragment may never enter into food products. The same standard is commonly used in industries, who also consider glass breakage as a unacceptable risk factor: pharmaceutics, cosmetics and many other industries. For this reason the UV-A lamps are executed with a special sleeve, which is produced from UV-A transparent material: the so-called shatterproof coating. The shatterproof material used is very strong, durable and has a high UV-A transparency rate. It can fulfil the related national standard BS 6062 and DIN 52290: 1) hours lifetime. 2) Ensures that at a lamp drop from 5 meters, the glass fragments will be retained in the sleeve. 3) More than 95% transparent for UV-A light. 4) Melting point over 280 Celsius degree.

13 About ECO-trap Operating the lamps - Introduction into the lamp efficiency In the past century different technologies have been used to generate light. Nowadays insect traps, fluorescent lamps are used to generate the so much wanted UV-A light. Pending on the type, producer and specifications, these lamps can be operated with an efficiency of up to 33%. This light needs to be divided in the undesired and non-effective visible light (blue light) and the much desired and invisible UV-A light. LED 20% 80% The efficiency of light production varies by type of lamp (bulbs) employed. Operating the lamps - The Eco-trap; energy saving technology! Insect control units, located in professional & industrial environments, need to be switched on 24 hours per day & night. This way not only day insects can be attracted, but also night insects are effectively controlled. Recent studies, also conducted by Alcochem Hygiene, By operating the lamps this way a significant energy saving can be achieved, as shown in the table here below, were a 4 x 15 watt unit has been examined: have shown that day insects and night insects experience light differently: Whereas day insects (diurnals) need a strong UV-A signal to lure them into the light trap, night insects (nocturnals) only need a fraction of this UV-A light. Based on this conclusion Alcochem Hygiene decided to develop a new range of insect control units, which offer the amount of light in a more flexible way: The Eco-trap range. The current range consists of 3 models; the wall mounted Eco-trap 2 and Eco-trap 3 units and the ceiling mounted model, the Eco-trap 4. The flexibility in the required UV-A output during day- and night time is created by a processor, which is timer operated. This processor guarantees: During 16 hours of the day the lamps are operated at 100% The remaining 8 hours the lamps are operated at 10% The only action required form the service technician is to program the actual time in the processor. After this the processor takes care of the operation of the Eco-trap models.

14 - Blueboard / Glueboardscanner Glue (Blue)boards / Glueboardscanner Alcochem BlueBoards come with an unique design that can be regonized by the glueboardscanner from Alcochem. These Blueboards are the ideal compromise between the required colour contrast we need to visualise the insects and the aesthetics that clients demand from these boards. As the blue colour of the boards match up with the blue light emitted by the UV-A lamps, the Blueboard blends completely into the background s The adhesives used for the boards are glues with very special characteristics designed to grab and then hold very light but often strong insects over an extended period of time under very demanding conditions. Insects are extremely light and create little or no pressure on the areas were they land. If the designated landing area is a glue board, than we still want these insects retained on the board with no change of escaping. In addition to this demand we want the boards to be handled easy and at a wide variety of temperatures. From close to 0 degrees Celsius up to 65 degrees Celsius, the glue boards will have to perform its function: keep the insects on the board. Not only the glue needs to be of excellent quality, but also the actual board must be optimised for this task. It needs to be strong enough and may not deform over time. What does the Blueboard offer: Glueboardscanner With this intelligent software program we can easily and accurately scan glue boards in an automated process. This is done by making a photo from the glue board with our special developed application. (app). The results it provides are 90-95% accurate. These Apps are freely available at the App store from Apple and from Google play. All you need to do is register once. Why scanning: To meet the international food standards, it s important that the counting of flies is done as accurate and constant - as possible. This will allow for a good analysis and follow up steps. Excluding the human factor in this process, makes the results both more constant and more accurate. 15 UV-A meter / Tester Alcochem UV-A tester Analysing UV-A lamps with your Smartphone It s a tiny, beautifully designed with Aluminum body, UV tester that connects to your phone to measure and analyze the UV-A light from UV lamps. Prior to taking a UV-A reading, make sure that the lamp has been working for at least 5 minutes. Depending on the ambient temperature, it can take up a few minutes for a UV-A lamp to reach its full UV-A output. Flying insects are drawn towards UV-A light with a specific wavelength peak of 360 nm. The higher the amount of UV-A light generated by a UV-A lamp, the more efficiently it will attract flying insects. The Alcochem UV-A Meter can be used as both a powerful selling tool, and an important quality assurance tool in HACCP Food Safety Programs. The UV-A meter is an absolute UV-A meter. This means that it can accurately measure the absolute UV-A light intensity from any lamp, or other UV-A source. This is measured in mw/cm 2 (milliwatts per square centimetre). Since UV-A light is invisible to the human eye, this is most important, as it is the only means by which you can determine if a lamp is actually working or not.
