2 INTRODUCTION: The Forklift is specialized piece of GSE that that is used to lift and/or transport palletized or containerized cargo short distances. This piece of GSE is not to be operated until you are fully trained and signed off in your training file. Employees are reminded that abuse of Company GSE will not be tolerated. Any employee found abusing GSE will be subject to immediate termination.

3 PRE-OPERATION CHECKS: When a Forklift does malfunction, it is usually the result of neglected daily preventive maintenance. Every Station has a copy of a Pre-Operational checklist that covers both a basic mechanical and vital fluids inspection. It is used to inspect all equipment daily. Use this checklist when performing your inspection. The following areas should be given attention BEFORE operating the Forklift by completing a walk around inspection. A Supervisor should be informed immediately if discrepancies are noted with any of the following: DAILY INSPECTION CHECKLIST Electric Forklift Truck KEY OFF Procedures The vehicle inspection o Overhead guard o Hydraulic cylinders o Mast assembly o Lift chains and rollers o Forks o Tires Examine the battery Check the hydraulic fluid level KEY ON Procedures Check the gauges o Hour meter o Battery discharge indicator Test the standard equipment o Steering o Brakes o Front, tail, and brake lights o Horn o Safety seat (if equipped) Check the operation of load-handling attachments

4 DAILY INSPECTION CHECKLIST Propane Forklift Truck KEY OFF Procedures The vehicle inspection o Overhead guard o Hydraulic cylinders o Mast assembly o Lift chains and rollers o Forks o Tires o LPG tank and locator pin o LPG tank hose o Gas gauge Check the engine oil level Examine the battery Check the hydraulic fluid level Check the engine coolant level KEY ON Procedures Test the front, tail, and brake lights ENGINE RUNNING Procedures Check the gauges o Oil pressure indicator lamp o Ammeter indicator lamp o Hour meter o Water temperature gauge Test the standard equipment o Steering o Brakes o Horn o Safety seat (if equipped) Check the operation of load-handling attachments Check the transmission fluid level

5 OPERATION: The Forklift is designed to lift and transport cargo for short distances. FORKLIFTS SHOULD NEVER BE OPERATED WITHIN THE 10-FOOT BUFFER ZONE OF AN AIRCRAFT! If the Forklift is found to be faulty, it should be taken out of service and written up before being used again. The following are the basic operating rules for a Forklift: Speed must not exceed 5 mph Speed within the aircraft safety envelope is not to exceed 3mph. Forklifts have rear wheel steering, therefore the operating and steering characteristics between forklifts and automobiles differ greatly. Inclines or declines, improper loading, wet or slippery areas, driving over bumps or loose objects can all have an effect on a forklifts stability. Forklift are prone to roll over if operated or loaded improperly Forklifts are designed for only one operator, no passengers! Check for hazardous work area conditions before starting work Brake stops must be performed at 50 and a 10-foot intervals Forklifts should not be used as personal lift platforms The Forklift should never enter the 10-foot buffer zone. Watch for safe clearances at all times Watch for rear end swing, because of rear wheel steering the rear end swings wide when you turn Practice safe load handling at all times! Seat belts must be worn at all times. * The cab and floorboard should be kept clear of all debris. Items could roll under the brake pedal and prevent you from stopping the vehicle. * GENERAL INFORMATION: Aircraft and emergency vehicles always have the right of way. Airport speed limits must be adhered to at all times. Designated airport roadways must be followed. Caution must be used when driving behind any aircraft as engine jet blast can cause harm. Caution must be used when inclement weather conditions occur, speed must be reduced. Defensive driving is required at all times. The Forklift should always be parked appropriately in designated spots. All Forklift rules apply to any Forklift used in the operation, whether ATS or borrowed from another company. Revised 4/03 *
