Still, for most modelers, electric flight is something new, exciting and more than a little intimidating. Figuring out which brands to buy, how to match up components both take research, and that eats into flying time. Fortunately, ElectriFly has the solutions. The motor description ( ) defines the Diameter, Length, and rounded off motor kv. 2. Continuous current is defined as maximum current that can be applied to the power system continuously without the motor going over max. temperature (180 F). The test is started with the motor at room temperature. 3. Surge current is defined as maximum current that can be applied to the power system for 30 seconds without the motor going over max temperature (180 F). 3 THE BRUSHLESS ADVANTAGE One difference between brushed and brushless motors is what rotates. In brushed motors, it s the windings. In brushless motors, the windings stay put and the magnets move. But for the most part, the names say it all. Brushed motors have brushes to carry current and spin the rotor. Brushless motors don t. A brushless electronic speed control () energizes the electro-magnetic field, which causes the motor to turn. And because of this, there s: No brush-to-commutator contact the #1 source of friction, waste heat, inefficiency, wear and maintenance in brushed motors. No voltage drop due to arcing caused by the brush-to-commutator contact which minimizes power losses and prevents radio noise and glitching. And virtually no limits on top-end speed or motor life. But that s not all. Other brushless advantages include: 80-90% efficiency versus just 35-40% for brushed motors. Virtually maintenance-free operation because bearings are the only moving part. Virtually instantaneous response throughout the range, on- or off-throttle. Better power-to-weight ratios (on average) than brushed motors and many glow engines. THE AMMO AND RIMFIRE MOTOR ADVANTAGE Differences in designs and features can make a head-to-head comparison between two motor brands difficult. Some have bearings. Some have special magnets. Some include a male bullet connector, while others include no connectors at all. By contrast, features on ElectriFly motors are easy to compare. Because except for the design differences between in-runner and out-runner motors, they re all the same and they re all good.
