This device is not medical in nature and is, therefore, not intended for making medical diagnostics. This device is only intended for private domestic usage. It is not suitable for commercial purposes. Only use this device as described in this manual. Any other type of usage can lead to damage to the device or injury. The manufacturer takes no responsibility for damage as a result of unintended usage. 4 Battery Safety Precautions WARNING This device is powered by a button cell battery. Batteries can be fatal if swallowed. If you suspect a battery has been swallowed, seek immediate medical advice. Interpretation of Symbols WARNING Warns of dangers to health or risk of injury. 1. Please note that the battery must be inserted with the correct polarity (+ and -), as indicated on the battery. 2. Do not short circuit the battery. 3. Do not use rechargeable batteries. 4. Remove spent batteries from the device immediately and dispose responsibly. 5. Do not apply heat to the batteries. 6. Do not directly weld or solder the batteries. 7. Do not dismantle the batteries. 8. Do not bend the batteries! 9. Do not put the batteries into fire! 10. Keep batteries out of the reach of children. 11. Do not allow children to replace batteries unsupervised! 12. Do not store batteries near fire, ovens or other sources of heat. Neither place batteries in direct sunlight, nor use nor store them in vehicles in hot weather. 13. Keep new batteries in their original packaging and away from metal objects. Do not mix up loose batteries! This can lead to battery shorting and thereby to damage, burns or even fire. 14. Remove batteries from the device when it is not being used for extended periods of time. 15. Never touch leaking batteries without taking the corresponding precautions. 5 Preparation 4 Operation 5 Unpacking 1. Carefully remove this device and its accessories from its packaging. 2. Remove all packaging materials and transportation fastenings if present. 3. Check the content of the package for completeness and damage. If the content of the package is incomplete or there are signs of damage, do not use the device. Return it to your retailer immediately. 4. If you wish to dispose of the packaging material, please observe the legal requirements. 5. Keep the packaging material if you want to use it to pack, send, or transport the device. Be sure to keep the packaging in a safe way which avoids any associated risks. WARNING! Suffocation Danger! The packaging material is not a toy. Children may suffocate or choke on plastic bags, film and polystyrene parts. Keep packaging materials away from children. Initial Use 1. Remove the protective film from the display and the measuring areas and wipe the device with a damp cloth. 2. Turn the device around and remove the protective film from the battery compartment whereby it's necessary to pull on the protective film flap in order to remove it. The device is now ready for use. 3. Turn the device around with the standing surface towards you and place it on an even surface. Weighing Observe the following hints and tips for correct usage of the device. 1. Set the desired measurement units (kg, lb, st:lb) from the unit switch located on back of the scale 1 lb = kg = st 1 kg = lb = st 1 st = kg = 14 lb 2. Step on to the standing surface. The unit will switch on automatically and starts with a self test 3. Stand still on the standing surface. Body weight measurement is then displayed on the LCD display 07 08

6 4. The device switches itself off after approxiamately 15 seconds. If the device displays an error code, refer to the FAQ chapter for further information. Cleaning and Care 6 Inserting and Changing Batteries. A 3 V button cell battery is present upon delivery. Remove the protective film from the battery compartment whereby it's necessary to pull on the protective film flap in order to remove it. Cleaning WARNING! Remove the batteries from the device before cleaning it. 1. In order to remove a spent battery and to insert a new one, turn the device over with underside facing you. 2. Remove the battery compartment lid (Fig. B). 3. Remove the existing battery (Fig. C). 4. Insert a new battery with the + side upwards in the battery compartment. 5. Place the battery compartment lid back on to the battery compartment (Fig. F). When cleaning the device do not use any chemicals, alkalis, abrasives or other strong cleaning agents and disinfectants, since they may damage the surfaces of the device. 1. Wipe down the surface of the device with a slightly damp cloth and dry it out carefully. Make sure that no liquid gets inside the device. WARNING!
