6 BIRTH OF THE CORDLESS LAMP It all started back in 1995, we were working on the lighting design for Penfold Wine s Magill Estate restaurant in the Adelaide hills with Sydney architects Allen Jack+Cottier. A major challenge with restaurant lighting is their need to move tables around and still illuminate them appropriately; we were tasked with designing an electric lamp with no cord to solve this problem. As there were no off-the-shelf battery systems, we designed our own exactly to our requirements. The end result was the Magill cordless table lamp. Brush body with part frosted acrylic providing direct downlight and soft ambient side light. The Little Collins comes with opal polymer diffuser and a brushed stainless steel top. The Collins has an additional stainless steel base for increase surface illumination. Available in native Victorian Ash or Western Australian Jarrah body with opal diffuser providing a soft ambient light. A wonderful addition to any outdoor settings. Our association with Rockpool started back in 2010 when we first supplied them with a bespoke cordless lamp design for Spice Temple and Rockpool Bar & Grill in Sydney. This was followed by four further locations in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney. With the opening of their latest flagship restaurant in Sydney, we are proud they have again selected a NEOZ Cordless Lamp for their table lighting. The battery powered lights gave us the solution for bringing light to the table tops as lighting from above was not an option. I chose the Cooee 2c because it was compact and suited the design but importantly reflected all light down to the table top hence avoiding any glare. Hot forged from an ingot of raw brass, CNC machined and carefully hand polished, the base is teamed with a handmade parchment shade providing direct downlight and soft diffused sidelight. From1983, NEOZ designed custom floor, wall, table and task lights and in the 1990 s revolutionised the industry with our award winning Lightrail and Lightwire track systems. 14 WHY LIGHT QUALITY IS IMPORTANT Here at NEOZ, we have always believed our cordless lamps should not only look great but also produce an exceptional light output with perfect colour rendering for defining skin tones, food colours and textures. To measure light quality, the Colour Rendering Index is used to quantify the ability of a light source to reproduce the colours of various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source. The highest possible CRI is 100 when all colours in their spectrum are rendered equally. Designed to match halogen as closely as possible, NEOZ have developed an energy efficient warm white LED (2700k) with a CRI of 95+. On the highest brightness setting both LED & Halogen are almost identical. When a Halogen bulb is dimmed, it s colour temperature grows warmer, while the LED stays the same. 16 ARCHITECT S CHOICE With its pure minimalistic form, the Ice Square and Ice Round range of NEOZ Cordless Lamps perfectly complement most interior settings and is a firm favourite for many architects and designers. The famed French architect Jean Nouvel is one of many long-time supporter of our cordless lamps, the Pritzker Prize winner has specified the Ice Square 100 for his own personal use and a number of projects including Quai Branly Museum in Paris, Hotel Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom and most recently the Renaissance Barcelona Fira Hotel. The benefit and versatility of NEOZ Cordless Lamps can clearly be seen at the Les Ombres, a roof top restaurant in Paris that relies on no other lighting for it s tables, as a result the view of the neighbouring Eiffel tower and river Seine is uninterrupted.
