Case Study: Shippensburg University, Pennsylvania Goal: Reduce energy costs and environmental impact, while increasing light levels in specified areas on campus. Background: 35 buildings and 12,856 interior and exterior fixtures were retrofitted with SYLVANIA OCTRON energy-efficient T8 fluorescent lamps and QUICKTRONIC electronic ballasts. Dorms were re-lamped with SYLVANIA DULUX EL electronic compact fluorescent lamps. Parking lot and walkway fixtures were retrofitted with METALARC metal halide lamps. 5 Case Study: U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Headquarters Goal: Reduce lighting power consumption by 35% by using the most advanced green building products and practices. Background: The U.S. Green Building Council moved its headquarters office suite to The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) building in the DuPont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The new space was intended to underscore USGBC s commitment to green building innovations. The designers specified SYLVANIA OCTRON XPS and XP ECOLOGIC T8 fluorescent, PENTRON ECOLOGIC T5 fluorescent and DULUX pin-base compact fluorescent lamps throughout the facility to achieve their sustainability and energy savings goals. 22 ELECTRONICS & CONTROLS SYLVANIA Products and the IESNA Progress Report A Proud Legacy of Achievement 2008 IES PROGRESS R e p o r t SELECTION Each year, The Progress Committee of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) solicits the lighting industry for product submissions which, if accepted by the committee, are featured in the committee s Progress Report, which is published in the IESNA s publication Lighting Design & Application. The mandate of the Progress Committee is to keep in touch with developments in the art and science of lighting throughout the world and prepare a yearly review of achievements for the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. Submissions are organized into one of seven categories: light source, accessory, luminaire, research, application, publication and design tool. They are evaluated for their design, engineering characteristics, installation features and overall uniqueness. The 30-member committee of industry experts votes on up to 200 product submissions annually. Over the years, many SYLVANIA and OSRAM branded products have been accepted for the Progress Report.
