THE STANDARDIZATION, QUALITY ASSURANCE, METROLOGY, AND TESTING ACT, 2006, (NOTICE OF DECLARATION OF EAST AFRICAN STANDARDS), IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred on the Council by sections; 14(1), (2) and (5) of the Standardization, Quality Assurance, Metrology and Testing Act, 2006, the lists and scopes of East African Standards below are hereby declared or withdrawn: a) LIST OF EAST AFRICAN STANDARDS DECLARED AS EAC STANDARDS 1. EAS 821:2014, Maize seed Requirements for certification (1 ST Edition) certified seed of maize (Zea mays L.). It includes requirements for eligible varieties, field standards, field inspections, seed sampling, laboratory standards, certificates, packaging and labelling and post-control tests. 2. EAS 822: 2014, Sorghum seed Requirements for certification (1 ST Edition) certified seed of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench). It includes requirements for eligible varieties, field standards, field inspections, seed sampling, laboratory standards, certificates, packaging and labeling, and post control tests. 3. EAS 823: 2014, Sunflower seed Requirements for certification (1 ST Edition) certified seed of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.). It includes requirements for eligible varieties, field standards, field inspections, seed sampling, laboratory standards, certificates, packaging and labelling, and post-control tests. 4. EAS 824: 2014, Soybean seed Requirements for certification (1 ST Edition) Scope:. This East African Standard specifies the certification requirements for the production of pre-basic, basic and certified seed of soybean (Glycine max(l.) Merrill). It includes requirements for eligible varieties, field standards, field inspections, seed sampling, laboratory standards, certificates, packaging and labelling, and post-control tests 5. EAS 825: 2014, Groundnut seed Requirements for certification (1 ST Edition) certified seed of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.). It includes requirements for eligible varieties, field standards, field inspections, seed sampling, laboratory standards, certificates, packaging and labelling, and post-control tests. 6. EAS 349: 2014 Liquid glucose (glucose syrup) Specification (2 nd Edition) This East African Standard specifies the requirements and the methods of sampling and test for liquid glucose (glucose syrup) for human consumption. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition ( ), which has been technically revised. 7. EAS 350: 2014 Hard-boiled sweets - Specification. (2 nd Edition) This East African Standard specifies the requirements and the methods of sampling and test for hard-boiled sweets This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition ( ), which has been technically revised. 8. EAS 352: 2014 Chewing gum and bubble gum Specification (2 nd Edition) This East African Standard specifies the requirements and methods of sampling and testing for chewing gum and bubble gum This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition ( ), which has been technically revised. 9. EAS 818: 2014 Sugar cane jaggery Specification This East African Standard specifies requirements and methods of sampling and test for sugar cane jaggery. 10. EAS 819: 2014 Molasses Specification This East African Standard specifies requirements and methods of sampling and test for molasses for industrial use.

3 23rd October, 2015 EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY GAZETTE EAS 820: 2014 Dextrose monohydrate (glucose powder) Specification This East African Standard specifies the requirements and methods of sampling and test for dextrose monohydrate (glucose powder) intended for human consumption as food and industrial applications. This standard does not apply to dextrose monohydrate for intravenous applications. 12. EAS 127-2: 2014 Synthetic detergent powders Specification Part 2: Machine wash This East African Standard (EAS) specifies the requirements and methods of sampling and test for synthetic detergents for machine wash. It does not cover hand wash powders and industrial detergent powders. 13. EAS 812-1:2014 Liquid hand wash Specification Part 1: Synthetic and combined (soap and synthetic) hand wash. This part 1 of the East African standard specifies the requirements and methods of test for synthetic and combined (soap and synthetic) hand wash. This standard does not apply to soap-based hand wash. 14. EAS 814:2014 Determination of biodegradability of surfactants Test method This East African Standard (EAS) prescribes a method for the determination of biodegradability of surfactants and for assessment of results, for both anionic and non-ionic surfactants. The method is applicable to anionic and nonionic surfactants separately, but directly applicable to surfactant mixtures. Reference standards of both biologically hard and soft surfactants are nominated for both anionics and non-ionics. The reference standards apply to detergents for household use only. 15. EAS 815:2014 Soap noodles Specification This East African Standard (EAS) specifies requirements and methods of test for soap noodles used as an intermediate product for subsequent conversion into a marketable soap. 16. EAS 816-1:2014 Synthetic liquid laundry detergents - Specification - Part 1: Hand wash This East African Standard (EAS) specifies the requirements and methods of sampling and test for hand wash synthetic liquid laundry detergents. 17. EAS 816-2: 2014 Synthetic liquid laundry detergents - Specification -Part 2: Machine wash This East African Standard (EAS) specifies the requirements and methods of sampling and test for machine wash synthetic liquid laundry detergents 18. EAS 817:2014 Stain remover for tableware - Specification This East African Standard (EAS) specifies the requirements and methods of test for a stain remover used in hard or soft water to remove coffee, tea and other adsorbed food stains, primarily from plastic tableware, by immersion. NOTE: The stain remover may also be used on glass and china tableware, although it is not intended for this purpose.
