Whether the goal is maximum performance or minimum fuel consumption for BMW, the focus is always on delivering quintessential driving pleasure. BMW EfficientDynamics is the strategy developed to minimise fuel consumption and CO emissions while simultaneously increasing dynamics and driving pleasure. It is a comprehensive technology package that encompasses the engine, energy management and the vehicle concept and is standard in every BMW. DRIVETRAIN. BMW TwinPower Turbo technology is used in all BMW Diesel engines, combining the latest fuel injection technologies and variable turbine geometry with innovative turbocharger for enhanced efficiency and a more dynamic performance. All diesel models feature lightweight aluminium construction and are equipped with a zero-maintenance particle filter. INNOVATIVE CONCEPT. An array of high-tech materials are used to build the BMW X, including lightweight materials like aluminium in the suspension and front of the car, high-strength steel in the car body, as well as state-of-the-art plastics and magnesium. This intelligent lightweight construction lowers the weight of various parts and makes the car body incredibly rigid, improving passive safety for the driver and passengers. The balanced weight distribution between the front and rear axles also enhances driving dynamics. ENERGY MANAGEMENT. Depending on your individual driving style, ECO PRO mode can reduce fuel consumption by up to %. Another % of savings potential can be achieved by using the Route-ahead Assistant and ECO PRO Route which are both included with optional BMW Professional Multimedia Navigation system. Auto Start-Stop switches off the engine when the vehicle comes to a temporary standstill (e.g. at traffic lights or in a traffic jam) to further reduce overall fuel consumption. When the driver presses the clutch (manual transmission) or takes their foot off the brake (automatic transmission), the engine automatically starts up again. SPORTY AND EFFICIENT: THE EIGHT-SPEED SPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. The eight-speed Sport automatic transmission adapts to suit your individual driving style. Previously unused kinetic energy is transformed into electrical energy and fed into the battery. Unlike conventional hydraulic steering systems, Electric Power Steering only uses energy when the steering wheel is actually being turned. When driving straight ahead, the electric motor remains inactive.

Many of these systems are intelligently interconnected and it s this level of integration that delivers the best possible safety, together with maximum driving pleasure on every road, every curve and at every second. Standard Drive Performance Control enables individual adaptation of engine and chassis components by selecting either Comfort, Sport, or with Sport automatic transmission / Variable Damper Control, Sport+ mode. ECO PRO mode helps minimise fuel consumption and displays the number of miles gained through economical driving with the saving shown as a bonus range in the instrument cluster. Standard Variable Sport steering works independently of road speed, varying the steering ratio in line with the steering angle. Servotronic reduces the steering wheel movement required to achieve a tight steering angle, which not only enhances comfort when parking and manoeuvring but also improves sporting agility in tight corners and bends. Optional Variable Damper Control adapts the characteristics of the dampers to the driving situation, for example, by adjusting the shock absorbers to a firmer position for a more exciting and sporty ride. Standard xdrive four-wheel-drive system intelligently distributes variable drive power to the front and rear wheels for maximum traction, directional stability and safety in every driving situation. PERFORMANCE CONTROL. BMW Performance Control distributes engine and braking control to the individual wheels when turning. Because the outer wheels have to move a longer distance than the inner wheels when turning, Performance Control intervenes through engine output and controlled braking. The outer wheels get more power while the inner wheels get less, maximising traction on each of the wheels. This means that the vehicle practically turns itself, increasing driving safety and comfort.

Passenger cell: The system of beams and node connections in the functional body structure combined with the strategic deployment of high-strength materials, delivers maximum passive safety in the event of front, side or rear crashes. Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) continually assesses the vehicle s movements and optimises directional stability and traction by intervening in engine and brake management. This makes it much easier to control the vehicle, even on difficult surfaces, actively increasing driving safety. Airbags are one of the passive safety components in a BMW. Driver and front passenger airbags, as well as the side airbags integrated into the front seat backrests, provide strategic protection. Adaptive Headlights with variable light control, including High-Beam Assistant and cornering lights, help increase driving safety by optimally illuminating the road ahead. Light distribution is automatically adapted to match your speed and the steering angle. The BMW X4 stands out from the crowd for many reasons, not least due to its exceptional level of safety. Its extremely stable passenger cell offers the ultimate in protection and comfort on all trips, allowing the driver of the BMW X4 to confidently unleash its full dynamic potential. For example, should the vehicle ever lose its grip on the road for even a fraction of a second, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) assumes control by automatically compensating for the loss of traction, thus preventing the vehicle from swerving. Run-flat tyres have reinforced side walls that prevent tyres collapsing or loosening if the air pressure drops. Tyre Pressure Monitoring notifies the driver of loss of pressure by a light in the instrument display and greater pressure loss will be signalled with a three-level warning strategy. Driving Assistant, includes Forward Collision Warning which detects vehicles in front and warns the driver when they are too close. [ 06 ] Park Assist makes parallel parking easier by identifying a suitable space and controls the steering during the parking manoeuvre. 2 [ 07 ] The Lane Change Warning systems detects vehicle's in the drivers blind spot or vehicles approaching at speed in an adjacent lane and warns the driver by vibrating the steering wheel and displaying a triangular warning symbol on the exterior mirrors. [ 08 ] Driving Assistant combines the Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning thereby reducing the risk of potential collisions. [ 09 ] Driving Assistant Plus is available with automatic transmission and combines both Driving Assistant systems with Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function. [ 10 ] The automatic tailgate operation opens the bootlid at the touch a button. [ 11 ] Comfort Access with smart-opener allows keyless access to the car and contactless opening of the bootlid via a sensor beneath the rear bumper.
