BMW EfficientDynamics is the BMW Group strategy that comprises all measures aimed at improving efficiency while simultaneously enhancing dynamics in every BMW vehicle. Since 1995, it has led to a 30% reduction in CO 2 output across the European new-vehicle fleet, a figure that will fall by a further 25% by the summer of ENGINES. The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology concept is used in all BMW petrol engines. Innovative turbocharger technology combined with High-precision direct injection and fully variable VALVETRONIC valve control system, including Double-VANOS, all improve performance, provide exceptional responsiveness even at low engine speeds and help to reduce fuel consumption. The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology in the diesel engines combines the latest fuel injection technologies and variable vane geometry with innovative turbocharger technology for enhanced efficiency and a more dynamic performance. All engines feature a lightweight aluminium design and come with a maintenance-free particle filter. CONCEPT. BMW has been utilising intelligent lightweight construction since the 1930s. Exceptionally lightweight materials are used for individual, carefully selected parts of the car body. They include aluminium in the front and the chassis, high-strength steel in the body as well as ultra-modern plastics and magnesium. This intelligent lightweight construction reduces the weight of the components and creates exceptional body rigidity for enhanced passive safety for the driver and passengers. In addition to increased safety standards, this also contributes to lower fuel consumption and higher performance, improving driving dynamics thanks to balanced weight distribution between the front and rear axles. ENERGY MANAGEMENT. ECO PRO mode. This mode enables fuel consumption to be reduced by up to 20% depending on your individual driving style. For example, ECO PRO will advise the driver to accelerate less aggressively, the optional eight-speed automatic transmission shifts even faster to higher gears and the automatic air conditioning is subject to energy optimised settings. OUTSTANDING AERODYNAMICS. Every BMW boasts excellent air resistance figures, thanks to a range of aerodynamic elements that complement each other perfectly. This in turn has a positive effect on efficiency and fuel consumption. These elements include a flat undercarriage cover and aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors. Auto Start-Stop. Automatically switches off the engine when the vehicle is stationary. As soon as you engage the clutch (manual) or take your foot off the brake (automatic), the engine immediately starts up again and your journey continues. And without any effort on your part, you ve saved fuel and helped protect the environment. Brake Energy Regeneration. Now when you brake, you won t just be slowing yourself down, you ll be helping to keep your car moving. It sounds counter-intuitive, but whenever you apply the brakes or take your foot off the accelerator, you recycle energy instead of wasting it. Brake Energy Regeneration then uses this energy to recharge the battery. In the process, it reduces the demand on your engine and means you consume less fuel and keep down your CO 2 emissions.

For more information please visit: Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI). Optional Real Time Traffic Information provides a precise account of current traffic situations in real time. The information is presented on the Navigation map by using a colour coding system indicating the flow of traffic. Road networks are divided into distances as short as 500m for superior accuracy and dependency. Information is automatically updated every 3 minutes allowing the driver to monitor whether the traffic situation is improving or worsening. The system also recommends for or against alternative routes based on the potential time saving benefits. Intelligent headlights. A tailored combination of optional advanced headlight technologies combine to ensure optimum illumination of the road ahead without glaring on-coming traffic or other road users. The independent beam distribution of Adaptive Headlights combine with High-beam Assistant. Standard Drive Performance Control lets the driver choose between the standard Comfort mode, ECO PRO mode, geared towards efficiency, and Sport mode, which enables even more dynamic driving. ECO PRO adjusts the characteristics of the accelerator pedal and transmission as well as the heating/air conditioning settings to suit the driving situation. Optional Adaptive M Sport suspension allows electronic control of the shock absorbers to ensure optimised road contact and traction in any situation. It includes dynamic damper control. The driver can choose between comfortable or sporty suspension settings using Drive Performance Control. Optional Variable Sport steering enables direct and agile handling with less steering effort. It reacts according to the steering angle, independently of speed, to improve handling during sporty driving. It also makes parking more comfortable. Adaptive Headlights with variable light control, including High-beam Assistant and cornering lights, help increase driving safety by optimally illuminating the road ahead.
