9 Communication & information systems BMW Integrated portable navigation system Designed to integrate seamlessly with your BMW, thus eliminating the problem of unsightly trailing wires. The pocket-sized device is packed with features such as Bluetooth functionality, TMC traffic receiver, audio output via the vehicle loudspeakers, a USB connection and an MP3 player. It slots into a special mounting in the dashboard, which also recharges its battery. 2 Portable navigation 2 BMW-approved portable navigation devices from industry leaders Garmin are pocket sized units with bright, touchscreen displays and turn-by-turn spoken instructions, ensuring you a stress free journey to your chosen destination. Supplied with 12-volt power lead and suction cup mount. 3 ipod TM interface Enjoy all your favourite music on the road. The interface connects the ipod TM directly to your vehicle s audio system: playlists and artist, song and genre information can be viewed on the control display or radio, and music can be selected using the idrive Controller, the multi-function steering wheel or the radio. The ipod TM is stored in the glovebox. Playback is limited to 255 folders for each search criteria, i.e. one artist equates to one folder. 3

The distance between obstacles and the car is communicated by an acoustic warning and, depending on the other equipment fitted, may also be shown in the control display. 2 3

11 Communication & information systems Snap-in adapter with USB interface Supports the wireless connection of certain Bluetooth-enabled Nokia and Sony Ericsson mobile phones, as well as Apple iphone devices*, to the vehicle s on-board network. The interchangeable phone-specific snap-in adapter with USB interface enables drivers to make calls on their mobile phone via the hands-free kit. MP3 music files stored on the mobile phone can also be played back via the vehicle s audio system. Operation is via the idrive Controller, multi-function steering wheel or voice control. Only available for vehicles with Bluetooth. 1 2 Snap-in adapter A robust docking system is available for a selection of Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson mobile phones, plus RIM BlackBerry and Apple iphone devices*. Using a phone-specific and easily interchangeable snap-in adapter, every driver can make calls on their phone via the hands-free kit. Connecting the phone to the vehicle s external aerial improves reception and minimises radiation inside the cabin. The phone battery charges while it is connected to the adapter. 3 Bluetooth headset The BMW Bluetooth headset offers the perfect balance of elegant style, lightweight comfort and leading-edge technology. This includes the availability of the ultimate vehicle recovery system, BMW Trackstar, which is now able to locate vehicles anywhere in the UK or mainland Europe.* The stolen vehicle recovery systems may entitle you to a reduction in your vehicle insurance premiums. BMW Trackstar** BMW Trackstar is a small covert electronic device installed in your vehicle which utilises state of the art technology such as GPS, GSM and an integrated motion detector in order to accurately locate your vehicle should it be stolen. Whether you report a theft or the Trackstar Control Room contact you to advise you of possible illegal movement, the unit is activated and tracking can commence. BMW Trackstar attracts full Thatcham Quality Accreditation (TQA). BMW Trackstar 5** The BMW Trackstar 5 unit operates in the same way as the BMW Trackstar unit and incorporates the added benefit of a Driver Authentication Device. If the device is present the BMW Trackstar 5 unit can detect if the person driving the vehicle is authorised to do so. BMW Trackstar 5 attracts full Thatcham Category 5 Accreditation. BMW Smartnav** Vehicles with BMW Trackstar installed have the option to upgrade to include BMW Smartnav.
