AYGO may be compact on the outside, but their clever design means it s amazingly roomy inside, with space for four and ample luggage. AYGO s new suspension gives an even smoother drive, and thanks to a turning circle of just 4.8 metres, no road is too narrow, no turn too tight. 32 EVERY ROAD IS FUN TO DRIVE. An efficient engine doesn t just save you money. It also means new AYGO is a joy to drive everywhere. Our engineers sent the already efficient three-cylinder engine to the gym, improving the engine s breathing and reducing internal friction. So it s even more responsive and fun to drive, while low CO means no road tax; and reduced fuel consumption saves you even more money. AYGO s 69 hp is ample in a light car for zipping through urban traffic, or cruising on the motorway. 34 6 airbags The AYGO is fitted with up to six airbags. They include SRS airbags for both driver and front-seat passenger, side airbags for the front seats, and SRS curtain shield airbags covering both the front and rear seat passengers. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) ABS prevents the wheels from locking while braking, helping you to maintain road adherence, reduce the risk of skidding and retain steering control when braking heavily. 34

35 Pre-Collision System Toyota Safety Sense s Pre-Collision System uses a camera and laser to detect other vehicles in the road ahead. When the possibility of collision is detected the driver is alerted with audio and visual warnings and brake assistance is activated. If the driver fails to brake in time the brakes automatically engage to prevent or mitigate a collision. Lane Departure Alert Using a camera to detect the lane markings in the road ahead, Toyota Safety Sense s Lane Departure Alert will alert the driver with audible and visual warnings if the vehicle starts to deviate from its lane without the turn indicator being applied the driver can then take corrective action. PLAY IT SAFE. New AYGO benefits from the option of Toyota Safety Sense the latest safety technology including features integrated from our bigger cars. Toyota Safety Sense features two active safety technologies Pre-Collision System and Lane Departure Alert giving you additional peace of mind and therefore a more relaxed driving experience. Tyre Pressure Warning System (TPWS) The system measures air pressure by monitoring individual wheel rotation speeds as well as other exterior signals for each tyre, and will warn you if the pressure falls below the recommended level, ensuring safer driving. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) VSC automatically activates each individual brake as needed and controls engine output to help maintain stability and prevent skidding when turning sharply or cornering on slippery road surfaces. 35

56 GLOSSARY Discover more about AYGO technology. Rear-view camera Reverse more safely using the rear-view camera. The clear colour image displayed on screen helps you spot hidden hazards and park with ease. Emergency Brake-light Signal (EBS) In emergency braking situations, EBS flashes the vehicle s brake lights repeatedly to alert following traffic. Dusk sensor The dusk sensor monitors light levels and automatically switches on the headlights when the light is low. Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) HAC helps to ensure a smooth start on steep inclines by applying the brakes for up to 2 seconds after the brake pedal is released. This prevents the vehicle from rolling back. It is activated by pushing the brake pedal harder after stopping as long as the transmission shift lever is in any forward gear position. Smart Entry & Start System Instead of a conventional key, the Smart Entry & Start System features a transmitter that allows you to unlock the doors by pulling the handle and lock them again by pressing a button. To start or stop the engine, simply press the Start/Stop button. All you need to do is carry the Smart Entry key in your pocket or handbag. Tyre Pressure Warning System (TPWS) The system measures air pressure by monitoring individual wheel rotation speeds as well as other exterior signals for each tyre. The dashboard indicator that illuminates will warn you if the pressure falls below the recommended level, and by doing so, the system contributes to safer driving, better tyre wear and greater fuel efficiency. 56

57 ISOFIX seat fixing Seats incorporate special anchor points, including a top tether that helps prevent the seat tipping forward. These provide a safe and convenient way of correctly securing ISOFIX child seats (available from your Toyota dealer). Toyota Safety Sense Toyota Safety Sense adds advanced active safety systems for an even safer and more relaxed drive. It will need a Health & Safety check at least once every 2 years/30,000 km (whichever comes sooner). An intermediate check is necessary every year or 15,000 km.
