Our old cars do better on state roads and personally any time I can avoid an interstate highway the better the experience. Small town Texas is the only way to go!

Have not driven the Hudson as much as I should; it took some road miles before the gas gauge and generator squared themselves away and started working as they should.

As always it was good to see all my friends that attended, Thanks to all who shared this meet.

The only issue being a city boy from Austin Texas, traffic; once in the metropolitan area was bumper to bumper. Needless to say having a meeting in the city would take all the fun out of it. Our old cars do better on state roads and personally any time I can avoid an interstate highway the better the experience. Small town Texas is the only way to go! Our next meeting is the 47th Big Country Regional in May, followed with a Chapter meeting for June. Treasury has not changed from last month. Have not driven the Hudson as much as I should; it took some road miles before the gas gauge and generator squared themselves away and started working as they should. I do strongly believe to keep your old Hudson driving good, Drive it and get things moving on all systems! Do not let that gas go bad in the tank, burn it up for a healthy ride! What a change 8 hours made in the weather; Temperatures were in the 40s with windy gusts and drizzle. The day before had been 80 degrees and sunny!

2 7 April Cameron Car Show Cameron, Texas P A G E 2 April 7th dawned for me at a motel in Cameron Texas. Attending the Lone Star Round UP car meet on the 6th I decided that spending the night in Cameron would be the best way to be on time and not have to drive home and return the next day. What a change 8 hours made in the weather; Temperatures were in the 40s with windy gusts and drizzle. The day before had been 80 degrees and sunny! After breakfast I drove over the courthouse square thinking the show would be a bust, but I was wrong. There were around 20 hearty souls who had already had their cars on display. After viewing the cars, I drove off to the 50s Café, the location for our meet. Again a feeling that the weather change would stop attendance. Once again I was wrong. I arrived early to an empty parking lot and after viewing the hours of operation on the door I realized I was about 30 minutes early. So sitting in my vehicle I waited to see who might attend. First was Ken Fulton in his 39 Sedan. He is a TROOPER as he has NO HEATER nor any windows save the windshield. As he later said, it is like riding a motorcycle there is a sweet spot speed that gets the rain to go around you and not wet you down. Next to arrive was Mark Brians driving his 54 Jet. He had his heavy coat on as his vehicle is also without a heater. Rodney drove in with his 54 Hornet just as the owner was unlocking the front door to the café. We all welcomed the opportunity to go into a warm place and have a hot beverage. George and Roberta Dennis joined our group about 10 minutes later. This was to be all the chapter members in attendance. Our group ordered lunch from the menu and after finishing Rodney held a short meeting. Topics included our May and July meet schedule and where to meet in June. After a brief discussion we decide that local meetings for May and July will not be scheduled in deference to the BIG COUNTRY REGIONAL and the INTERNTATIONAL HET MEETINGS. Ken Fulton asked our group if a June meeting at the DEAD FISH GRILL would be acceptable; all present agreed. Roberta shared; she and George were attending Clinton Webb s funeral in Allen;, Texas, Ken said, Yolanda and he were also attending. Our meeting over, Rodney, Mark and Ken Fulton drove over the court house and displayed their Hudsons. Ken, Roberta and George had other commitments. See everyone in June at the Dead Fish Grill in Belton Texas. Finally, Rodney reports receipt of dues for 22nd member! P A G E 4 James Clinton Webb July 15, 1942 - April 4, 2018R FLOWERS James Clinton Webb of Nocona, Texas passed away April 4, 2018 at the age of 75.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. James was a Master Mason at the Allen Masonic Lodge No.1435, Scottish Rite, and Shriner International.

4 P A G E 4 James Clinton Webb July 15, April 4, 2018R FLOWERS James Clinton Webb of Nocona, Texas passed away April 4, 2018 at the age of 75. He was born on July 15, 1942 to James Andrew Webb and Freda (Garrison) Webb in Laurel, Mississippi. James married Dianne Robinson on February 23, 1998 in Bailey, Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. James was a Master Mason at the Allen Masonic Lodge No.1435, Scottish Rite, and Shriner International. He was an active member of the Hudson- Essex-Terraplane Car Club. He was a Past President of the National HET Club, Director of the Big Country Region and held several officer positions n the North Texas Hudson Dealers Chapter. Clinton is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Dianne Webb of Nocona, Texas; son, James Webb and wife, WeiWei of Anaheim, California; daughters, Sandi Burtz of Frisco, Texas and Tracy Oswald and husband, Derek of Nocona, Texas; grandchildren, Taylor Nichole Burtz Brommer, Cutter Oswald, Alex Oswald, Ryder Oswald, and Danielle Burtz; sisters, Geretta Crawford of Westwego, Louisiana and Phyllis Heard of Houston, Texas; brother, Dennis Webb of Beaumont, Texas, and numerous other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Andrew and Freda Webb; sisters, Nell Anderson and Pat Broussard; and brother, Gerald Webb.

P A G E 5 TECH TIPS Geoff Clark,NZ offers the following information to aid in troubleshooting a Hudson engine condition. Low compression will be either bad rings or valves or leaking head gasket.

If air comes out of the oil filter, you have bad rings, if it comes out of the exhaust pipe you have a burnt valve.

5 P A G E 5 TECH TIPS Geoff Clark,NZ offers the following information to aid in troubleshooting a Hudson engine condition. Low compression will be either bad rings or valves or leaking head gasket. Bring your piston to TDC ( Top Dead Center) in firing position and block the valve cover breather. Then inject compressed air into the cylinder being tested. If air comes out of the oil filter, you have bad rings, if it comes out of the exhaust pipe you have a burnt valve. If you have a leaking head gasket there will be bubbles blowing in the radiator water. Found on the HUDSON FORUM - Replacement Studs for the intake and exhaust manifolds on Hudson Big 6 (232/262/308) motors. ARP ( Automotive Racing products kit made for Chrysler engines ( ARP ) is a match for these Hudson motors. The 12 point nuts can be replaced with fine thread hex nuts to allow for torque application. The kit contains two lengths of studs. The long studs were used on the top and the short on the bottom of the manifolds. When installing the studs the coarse thread is for the block side and the fine for use with the nuts. The hardness of the ARP stud and the rounded tips make it much less likely that you will cross thread the nuts onto the studs during installation. A worn out timing chain found during 262 engine tear down.

I take a large flat washer, place over the broken stud and then weld the stud up to the washer.

I then place a wrench on the nut and start tapping to loosen up and turn. Keep tapping towards the left -- "out direction". This one took two tries but it came out.

6 P A G E 6 TECH TIPS The disassembly of a Hudson engine can include the breaking of bolts which stay in the block. The following TIP is from Kerry Dancy, who restores Hudson automobiles in Florida. This is how I normally get the broken head bolts out. I take a large flat washer, place over the broken stud and then weld the stud up to the washer. The washer acts as a bearing and helps protect the head surface from weld splatter. Then take a large nut and weld it to the other weld, using good heat. I then place a wrench on the nut and start tapping to loosen up and turn. Keep tapping towards the left -- "out direction". This one took two tries but it came out. Of course, if I had a magnetic drill press, I would use that! This message is an attempt to bring all of our members attention to a fundamental aspect of our chapter and its existence as a part of the National HET club. To be a member of our South Texas Chapter of the HET Club you must be a member in good standing with the National HET Club. That means at the time of paying your South Texas dues you must have paid your dues to the national club. Our membership chairperson will check your eligibility by accessing the national membership data base. Once your membership in the national club is validated your membership information will be entered onto the roles of our chapter. You payment will be forwarded to our treasurer for deposit in the chapter bank account. To make the process easier for you a copy of a national as well as a South Texas Chapter membership has been attached. If you are a computer and Internet user you can find the National Membership signup at the HET online webpage where there are opportunities for you to signup via electronic means with is nearly instantaneous.
