6 WHAT IS A VANPOOL? Six to fifteen people commuting together The group has a primary driver (+ alternates) Riders share in the operating cost by paying an equitable monthly fare Riders receive two Guaranteed Ride Home trips per calendar year Each vanpool group establishes their rules of operation for their van (pick-up times, meeting locations, routes, music, etc.)
7 VALLEY METRO VANPOOLS Some numbers: Currently there are 330 active vanpools The average rider pays less than $25/wk Vanpools average 10 riders per van The average commute is 64 miles round trip Eliminating more than126,000 miles daily Reducing 5,755 lbs daily of airborne pollutants 7

10 HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS Vanpooling is a month to month agreement, no contract or long-term lease Someone (usually primary driver) or employer must be financially responsible for the van Rider s monthly cost based on type of van, number of riders, commute miles, and price of gas. All vans are owned by Valley Metro Valley Metro sets monthly vanpool rate
11 Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance Roadside/emergency assistance Use of loaner vans Guaranteed Ride Home/Emergency Transportation* Insurance coverage $1,000,000 each for property & bodily damage $100,000 for uninsured & under insured motorist coverage Gasoline MONTHLY FARES INCLUDE * In addition to any employer-provided Guaranteed Ride Home. Limit 2 rides/year.

15 DRIVER REQUIREMENTS Minimum age - 25 years Valid drivers license (No CDL required) Good driving record, no more than 3 moving violations in 3 years Established credit rating - responsible person only or employer
16 DRIVER S BENEFITS In exchange for driving and coordinating the vanpool, the primary driver usually receives a free commute and up to 300 miles personal use of the van, except for gasoline. Personal mileage is determined by the difference between the contracted monthly mileage and actual monthly commute mileage.
