Harry O was unusual in that he didn't own a flashy car in which to conduct high-speed chases, preferring to ride the bus instead (possibly because the Sprite was frequently in the shop).! Page 3

8 McKenzie s 2 Pence Worth... by President James McKenzie Subject: Re: MG TD To: "James Mckenzie" <jmckmini@att.net> Date: Saturday, January 24, 2015, 11:13 AM I have a collection a collection of early Miata Magazine that you used to get when you bought one and some other stuff from their introduction that has been acquired over the years nice reading. At the time they were introduced all those comparisons were made, but the reality is that the Japanese auto industry and their economy was far different from what it was in the UK during the post war period and even to this day. I think the reality is that the Brits just did not have the money to sink into development as the Japanese did. Along with quality control issues of the 70's stricter emission and safety laws things went down hill and never came back. I did a Dry Rot article about that some years ago, attached. Glad the chemo is not so bad, it appears once you get through it, you get back to sort of normal for awhile, same with my brother in law. Don't fall off the roof and tell your buddy to stay off the ladder. It would appear that we are to get some snow, the trucks were out dropping brine again so the TC stays in the garage. I was over at Loews looking at wood flooring for my office, trying to match the existing floor in the hall way that is 25 years old to some degree. Time takes a toll on that stuff for sure. 9 Tinkering with Alan Miller. Tinkering German and American Been making progress on my VW Dune Buggy, my Avant and my Corvette. And that is the point. Just doing something mechanical in the garage, finding a problem and creating a solution is what gives us the satisfaction that our cars readily supply. On the Dune buggy the enclosed fan assembly is powered off the shaft of the generator. I didn't realize that is was binding to the point that it was immobilized. How could I know since the motor I just put together and used old parts? Luckily I decided to take the generator belt off and discovered it. It was spinning elliptically and ground to a halt. In pulling it apart I discovered someone had placed a spacer in the wrong place which shoved it out too far so it was an easy but important fix. Next up, the buggy has a square hole behind the passenger seat where the battery is placed. Looking for a creative way to hide/utilize the space, I thought maybe I can fill the hole with a tool tray and hinged cover. I started with wood, but quickly realized I don't have the tools to do it justice.i then bought two baking pans 8 x 12 inches to fit a hole 6.5 x 11 inches. So how do you cut a metal pan to size. There must be half a dozen ways to do it depending on your priorities of how it looks and how you weld it up, or if you rivet it together. I sliced it on a diagonal and welded it, but the corners are not acceptable. Maybe the third attempt will net me better results, but if not, I will either make one from scratch from fiberglass, for scratch the idea entirely. Any thoughts? Let me know. On the Avanti I worked on the steering by removing the power steering control valve and shipping it out and having it rebuilt. Then back in. I only wish I would have used some Teflon tape on the hose threads, so that needs to be done. On the Corvette, I took it to Mike Pearson who repaired a bad paint chip from having my lift rams drop on it. Look out Spring, I'm on the move! Alan Miller! Page 9

10 Club Minutes by Mary Donovan. Minutes, British Car Club Meeting January 6 th, 2015 There were 19 members in attendance at Conroyʼs Pub. We did not hold a presidential/vice presidential election because the weather was bad and we did not have a great turnout. We will try next meeting. Charles Linn, our Vice President, will continue to serve as interim meeting leader. Chuck has agreed to remain treasurer for this year, and began collecting dues. Dues are, as everyone should know by now, $20 a year. Mary Donovan is going to assume duty as secretary unopposed. Bill will continue to be the newsletter editor. He sent special thanks for the contribution from James McKenzie, which everyone thought was extremely interesting and a nice addition to the newsletter. Alan again suggested that we get together for a less formal meeting on other Tuesdays, although the discussion did not proceed to a time or place being established. Gordon mentioned that an MGA and a TD are for sale in Hoyt, and sent photos; they look good. He also had looked at a Midget on a trailer for $650, but from the photos it is rough. Bill urged that we begin planning for the year starting next month. Everybody wants to give James McKenzie a hand, so if there are chores to do members should ask; people are really anxious to pitch in. Oh and other important news: Brianʼs crate arrived!!!!!!
